100 Foods to Eat Before You Die - Toronto/GTA Edition
8. Bellini - make it yourself by buying Champagne or Prosecco from LCBO & peach nectar from any grocery store.
49. Head Cheese - I've bought it from Pusateri's & have eaten it at Parts And Labour in their croquette - quite delicious.
60. Mimosa - the last one I drank in a restaurant was at brunch at La Societe Bistro. You can't really go wrong with this drink anywhere (or can you?).
64. Octopus - I'm thinking most Greek restaurants do Grilled Octopus, and seafood restaurants too. Also Japanese - can always do takoyaki at Guu if you want your octopus a little hidden.
66. Paella - is Torito's good? Never ordered it there but like their other food. In TO, have only had Segovia's version many many years ago.
94. Sweet Potato Fries - I like the ones at Lou Dawgs.
100. Zucchini Flowers - only in season but have had delicious dishes made with them at Treadwell and Buca. You can buy them at St. Lawrence Market in the Summer & cook them up yourself. I'm lucky to get them from my Mom's garden & tempura up those babies.

P.F. Chang's ?? [moved from Ontario]
Haha - I remember Ginsberg and Wong! We are old! I ate at P.F. Chang's in Salt Lake City and it was okay. Not amazing & definitely not a place I would frequent (someone else wanted to eat there). But I'm sure they will find regular patrons.
Bohemian Gastropub - what's the word?
I agree that it would have been great if they had stuck to their original German premise. When I went it was all regular bar type food and I was expecting (and craving) some hearty German items. So disappointing. I guess they felt they had to go with what the market wanted in that area, but that obviously didn't work either.
2.5kg bags of Lindt couverture wafers are $15.75 at Sears Eaton Centre (ends today)
That's a GREAT price! I'm too lazy to head out again, now that I'm home. And yes, I love that Ghirardelli Peppermint Bark. I stocked up at the beginning of December when I was near the Lindt outlet in the west end.
Bohemian Gastropub - what's the word?
Well that was fast! I went once and did not like my food. I guess others felt the same way.
Marben for dinner?
I like Marben. I was there last in September. My favourite is John's Burger with the braised ribs inside the burger patty. I like the Pommes Kennedy as well and their Pig Roast Dinner is great too.
canned sour cherries
No, not super syrupy. Light syrup (I have a jar in my fridge). I use the leftover liquid in cocktails.
canned sour cherries
I've bought pitted red sour cherries from Sobeys (they are in a glass container & the brand is Gourmet Gallery) in the canned fruit section.
LOBLAWS Maple leaf Gardens
I've also heard they are training staff at other Loblaws locations so it must be close to opening.
Wife craving good Italian - has chosen five possibles....
Do you mean Desserts Plus in Woodbridge? Haven't been there in ages but used to go there regularly when I worked up there.

Monday Eating Out in Toronto (city)
I completely agree about Buca. The food is great & I prefer going during the week because it's easier to get a table. Starfish would be my 2nd choice. Love just eating oysters & drinking wine.
Marben's Pig Night - Oct 30
We did the one in July. It was $25 per person & included Roast Pig meat and 2 sides each, served family-style. I believe we had the Fries, Green Beans, Corn, and another Carb, but I can't remember what (age, you know). I do remember they were out of Kale by the time we got there. We also got a Pitcher of Beer and did Dessert. For some reason I think it was included but again, I can't remember! I *do* remember that it was all good.
ISO Taro Chips - GTA
I've bought taro chips from T&T in the past, though the brand they carry does have MSG (if that type of thing bothers you, which it doesn't for me).
Best Italian restaurant downtown?
I've been going back every week for their Potato Pizza. Addicted!
Acadia -- who else has been?
Your review made me realize that yes, the way the service is set up, everything was piping hot when it came to our table. I hate it when food is just warm at a restaurant, and you know it's been sitting there for a bit. Next time I go back I plan on drinking a lot of cocktails & eating only savoury items too!
breakfast in toronto - garden/financial district
Is Great Cooks on 8 going anywhere?? That would make me sad! I love eating Lunch there. I agree re: O&B - each location seems inconsistent - I've had good food & not so good food at various locations.
Acadia -- who else has been?
I guess it does! But somehow, we were both pleasantly full after our meals...I think it's because I had the heavier Appetizer & lighter Main, while she had the lighter Appetizer & heaver Main. Oh, plus the Sides & Desserts. I don't know, the sizing didn't bother me however I am interested to hear others' thoughts.
Acadia -- who else has been?
Hey TorontoJo, here's a link to a picture of the Crab Appetizer my friend ate (and I had some tastings of).
http://chefs-talk.com/show/chesapeake-bay-crab-sungold-chow-chow-whipped-buttermilk-cucumber-chervil
It's from Chef Matt Blondin's page on chefs-talk.com. It tasted best when you tried to get a little bit of everything on your fork (and in your mouth). Hope you enjoy when you go!
Acadia -- who else has been?
Went over the weekend for a friend's birthday and really enjoyed it.
Opened with cocktails. Friend: Punch of the day (liked it but friend thought it was served in too small of a glass, even though that is the kind of glass my Mom drinks her before Dinner sherry from, so I thought it was okay). Me: Can't remember the name but the one with tequila, absinthe & ginger beer (I'm on a ginger beer kick this Summer so really loved this drink).
Amuse bouche: roasted soy nuts, pickled okra, green beans, fingerling potatoes, fennel and cucumber - nice start.
Appetizers: Friend: Chesapeake Bay Crab - so good, great balance of ingredients on the plate that worked together well. Me: Shrimp & Grits - this is really quite delicious and my favourite dish of the night. The ham hock adds a great flavour but the dish is not overly salty, as sometimes can happen. The shrimp was perfectly cooked & quite big.
Mains: Friend: Pork Ribs - braised and soft. I liked the 2 ribs my friend let me have! ;) Me: Rainbow Trout - Again perfectly cooked and comes as a poached long roll.
Sides: Cornbread with Sweet Potato Butter. Great cornbread, comes to the table nice & warm and the butter is a delicious accompaniment. Boudin Balls with Red Pepper Honey - yum! I ate these myself because friend is not into boudin. Light in texture and not overly fried/heavy. We also had a bottle of the Italian red wine.
Desserts: Friend: Sugar Pie - I found this very sweet (yes, I know, *sugar* pie, but I tend to like my baked goods/desserts not too sweet). Me: 75% Chocolate Bar: Enjoyed this because hey, 70%+ chocolate! We also had a glass of brandy each.
Service was informative, helpful & attentive. I will go back.
Buca - Overrated and comically pretentious
Ha - psycho owners!! What a totally bizarre experience. Regarding Buca: I like it. Yes, it's a bit pricey but I enjoy most of the food. I always just thought the servers were really serious about food & liked to share their knowledge. I've never experienced pretentious service. I really do like their Tiramisu.

Frank's kitchen or L.A.B. for dinner tonight
Went to Acadia on the weekend and really enjoyed my meal (and their cocktails!). Would recommend going there.
Conscious food festival - 2011 (August 13 and August 14) - Fork York, Toronto
Wow, what a fantastic & thorough review! Will have to remember to go next year! Now I'm hungry again, and I just had Lunch!
Origin Question
I always get the Ribeye (I can't help it, I love meat and would eat the whole thing by myself, though luckily I'm usually with other people to decrease the caloric intake), something from the Mozzarella Bar and the Devilled Eggs. I love watching the kitchen and any drama that goes down so prefer sitting at the open kitchen bar area. But the patio is great too.
Caplansky's- the emperor has NO clothes
I basically only eat the tongue sandwiches when I go to Caplansky's or get take-out. I like them a lot. I find the smoked meat sandwiches too salty for me. But I tend to undersalt (sensitive taste buds!).

Tazo Tea Chai Latte mix.
I believe I saw it at No Frills (Front & Princess) but am not 100% sure so would call if you were going to make a trip.
Food Truck Festival - Distillery District - July 2, 2011
I'll be checking it out! They had me at Porchetta & Cupcake.
Dinner near Wellington and John on Saturday
Oh no - sorry to hear! I had takeout from Vagabondo once & it was enough. Extremely salty - blech.
