Source for afternoon bagels, preferably downtown

Thanks for the suggestions. I always meant to go to Ess-a-Bagel when I lived there but never made it, so 21st St. doesn't seem too far to go to remedy that.

Source for afternoon bagels, preferably downtown

Hello,

I recently moved out of New York and, naturally, miss the bagels. I'm going to be there this weekend and was hoping to take home a small stash to keep in my freezer. However, my ride home Sunday afternoon is too long to buy already frozen bagels without them thawing. I was thinking the next best plan would be to buy fresh bagels as late as possible in the afternoon and then freeze them as soon as I get home Sunday evening. Does anyone know of good bagel places that keep baking fresh bagels in the afternoon, preferably below 14th street? I used to go to Hudson Bagels, but I can't remember how late they're open or when they stop putting out fresh bagels. I have lunch plans and doubt I'd be able to get anywhere before 2:30 or 3.

Thanks very much in advance for your help!

RAMPS

Yeah I normally go before work but couldn't make it until later yesterday. Good to know that the ramps' absence was probably due to my lateness and there's hope of finding more after all. I will try giving WF/Chelsea Market a call and if not try again tomorrow or Saturday. Thanks for everyone's advice! (On the FreshDirect tip, thanks for the idea, but the fact that FD itself gives them 2 out of 5 freshness stars is not encouraging. At least they're honest!)

RAMPS

Thanks for the suggestion. I checked the Union Square market on Wednesday around 2 pm and no one had any, but perhaps they had all run out. I will try my luck again on Saturday but in the meantime I was just wondering if any other places might have some I could pick up at non-market hours.

RAMPS

I know ramp season is pretty much over, but does anyone know of any place that still has them? I've been wanting to make this modified carbonara recipe w/ramps and sugar snaps, but now that the sugar snaps are at the market, no ramps to be found! I'm tempted to visit all the places mentioned in this post to check (WF, Fairway, Chelsea Market, Chinatown), but that seems a bit daunting! Thanks very much in advance.

Asian noodle soup recipe?

I'm trying to use some broccoli and bok choy I have from my CSA and was thinking of making some sort of Asian noodle soup tonight, rather than my usual stir-fry. Does anyone have a good basic recipe they can point me to? Obviously I can adapt for the veggies I have if the recipe uses others, but I've just never made this type of soup and would love some guidance. Thanks!

outdoor, downtown dinner

thanks for the suggestions. i didn't realize AOC had a garden so i might try that. most of the others are just slightly pricier than what i'm looking for for this particular dinner, but i love august and have been meaning to try barbuto. thanks!

outdoor, downtown dinner

i'm looking for a casual, inexpensive place to eat dinner outdoors, somewhere downtown (preferably west village or nearby, but east village is fine too). malatesta is exactly what i have in mind, but i eat there all the time and want to try something new. a garden would be ideal, but sidewalk seating is great too (especially if the view is nice). any cuisine is fine. thanks!

that's strange, on the website main page (http://www.chinatownbrasserie.com/) i'm seeing:

Sat lunch 11 am - 5 pm
dinner 5 pm - 12 am

maybe worth calling them to check?

Chinatown Brasserie is open all afternoon/evening and has a good combo of lunch food (dim sum) and cocktails.

Authentic Cuban Restaurant in NYC ?

i've never been to cafecito but my parents, both born in cuba, were not impressed. we always go to victor's on 52nd st for the ropa vieja - it's a little overpriced but definitely tastes authentic to me (i too use miami as the standard).
