LOts of great suggestions mentioned and I have to agree with those who have recommended Alta Strada......it's one of my favorite restaurants. Fiorella's is also excellent and now that they've enlarged the restaurant the wait isn't quite so long. The Cottage (both Wellsesley and Chestnut Hill) are also very good, however, at times they're not so consistent with portions. LaCampagia is also quite good. I must say that the food at the Marriott is good too. Haven't been there in a while but the filet and lobster rolls are excellent. Depending on what you're looking for or what price range, let me also suggest Not Your Average Joe's in Watertown. Whatever you want, they have it. Enjoy wherever you go.

Never liked Legal Seafood. Great fish at Skipjacks and also at the Dolphin in Natick (twin lobster special). Capt Marden's is a fish supplier and their restaurant is right next to their fishmarket. Can't get any fresher than that. Clams are great there. We eat there once a week. The Verona in Watertown also has great fish (actually, everything is great) and they have a special ($30 for any two dinners two dinner entrees on the menu and it includes salad and dessert). If you go make sure you tell them you want the special. the specials are the same saiz as a non-special.

Dinner in Newton Centre

We did eat there once. Enjoyed it but the server was off-base when he described the lobster roll. He said it was hugh. Well, it was but the botton of the very large roll was stuffed with lettuce. A couple of people were eating the hamburger and it looked fantastic. My husband asked them how it was and they gave us 2-thumbs up. It was gigantic.

Same owner as Pie and they have a few of the desserts on the menu.

We will definitely go back.

BTW, they always seen to have 'daily' coupon on Groupon. Check it out.

Newton/West Newton for a dinner with long lost friends

C. Tzar's is still owned by the same people who owned Ariadne's (so the server told us after I told her I didn't like Ariadne's - lol) which made us very skeptical. Service and server were good. Hostess not so much. We went at 5:30 (restaurant was empty) and we asked for a table for 4 instead of 2. She accomdated us, for a monent.....the minute I started to sit down she said she can't do that because it's going to get very busy (this was a Tuesday night). Led us to a corner table/booth which worked out fine but her attitude was less than nice.

Has Blue Ribbon BBQ gone downhill?

Oh Jeeze.......now I don't know what to do. Haven't been there in a long time (W.Newton) and everytime we pass it we say we are going there soon. Now, with all the nay reviews I don't know. :(

Same owner but we prefer the one in Watertown. Definately not as nicely decorated as the new one in Newton Centre. We never go on weekends.......always a line. Potato pancakes are great.

You're probably thinking of Tartufo right across the street (and up the small hill) from Bill's Pizza. Been there once........didn't care for it.

Recently bought two coupons for dinner at Appetito. We hadn't been there in years and remembered it as very good. Not so good anymore. I don't recommend it at all.

Newton/West Newton for a dinner with long lost friends

Never been there but I understand there's a great restaurant at Hotel Indigo call Boxx.

Blue Ginger is one of our favorite restaurants. If you make a reservation ask for Melissa, she is a fantastic server. Their specialties are the lobster and butterfish.

Fiorella's on the Newtonville/Waltham line is another great place. Recently renovated to make it larger. Very busy but very good.

La Campania, as mentioned, is excellent.

There is a fairly new restaurant in Newtonville that we recently went to and were very pleased with our meal. It's called C. Tzars and is on Walnut St.

Silly Eating Habits

We use to own a drycleaners and one of our pressers was Mexican. She would always bring us the most delicious burritos. She would wrap them in foil and put them on top of the boiler do warm them up. :) So yummy!

RE: meatloaf........I must have corn and mashed potatoes with my meatloaf. I put a mound of mashed potatoes on my plate and a scoop of corn right in the middle and mix. So good! My meatloaf doesn't get mixed in tho......just eaten with it.

I've had breakfast at The Spot Cafe (fried egg sandwich) and it was delishious. We often stop by just to by a load of the bread which he makes. I'm assuming it's Miche. So good!

Have to agree with hiddenboston.................Newton is the place to go for bagels.

You might want to try the bagels at Russo Brothers, Pleasant Street in Watertown. I bought some there a while back and they were excellent.

In a Pickle on Main Street (across from City Hall) is a good choice. Not many tables though and can get very crowded, especially on weekends.

For Italian and American fare head to Fiorella's on North Street in Newtonville.

Just wanted to correct a couple of addresses............Solea and Indian restaurants mentioned are not on Main Street, they're on Moody Street which is just off of Main Street. Salem foods is also on Moody Street. I believe Patels is as well.

Good pizza in West Suburbs??

Which Sweet Tomatoes did you eat at? The one in West Newton is 'much better' than the one in Newton Centre.

Alta Strada in Wellesley has great pizza.

Fiorella's, North Street, Newtonville and Fiorella's Express on Tremont Street in Brighton.

Wherever we order pizza we always ask for it to be well done to ensure a crispy crust.

Bridal Luncheon in Cambridge or western suburbs

I love this restaurant. My husband and I go there all the time for lunch and he often comments how he's usually the only man there.................it's kinda where ladies go to lunch. LOL

They have a private room which I'm sure, if booked in advance, they will be able to accomodate your party.

My favorite.............The Waldorf Chicken Salad.

Near Newton Wellesley Hospital

There's a great restaurant in Wellesley on Linden Street called The Cottage.

Across the street from them is California Kitchen.

Closer to NWH is CK Shanghai on Washington Street.

Across the street from CK is Papa Razzi.

Barry's Deli in Waban is also great.

In West Newton (near the theatre) is Sweet Tomatoes........great pizza!

Paddy's Pub on Elm Street in West Newton and right around the corner from

Blue Ribbon BBQ, which is also great..................very limited seating though.

But I Come Here Often

To quote Helena............"A restaurant shouldn’t overdo it, though. My husband and I used to get a free limoncello or ricotta cheesecake every time we went to our neighborhood Italian place. After a while, we stopped going because we couldn’t consume it all (and it seemed rude not to do so). There is such a thing as treating regulars too well."

My husband and I stopped going to one of our favorite steakhouse restaurants for the very reason mentioned above. We ordered calamari on a couple of occasions so we started getting 'free' calamari without even ordering it. We love the cheesecake and then started getting 'free' cheesecake after our meals. The waitress (we always asked for the same one because we really liked her) brought both of those items without ever asking us. Got to a point I had enough calamari and cheesecake.

I must add, she was well 'rewarded' for those treats. I really miss that restaurant. :( Hopefully, if we ever decide to return she'll ask if we still like calamari and cheesecake. :)

Anyway, to get back to the question asked by 'Make me feel at home"......I agree that a special treat now and then would be nice but don't expect it every time.

We frequent many restaurants and on very rare occasions an owner will send over drinks or dessert. One restaurant 'always' gives us an amuse' and even invited us to their 10th anniversary party....that was a real treat!

Topsys Fried Chicken?

Oh, how we yearn for their chicken, squash, chicken livers, fried clams, steak and the list goes one.

My kids always called their sign the 'Flickin' Chicken' and from then on that's what we called the restaurant. : )

You're so 'right on' about ketchup never-ever touching the fries.

My husband cuts his pasta (I twirl - without a spoon) and, I swear, cutting the pasta makes it taste different. LOL Of course, my husband thinks I'm nuts. LOL
