Lamb sandwich or dip - westside

Another thumbs up for the lamb & feta sandwich at Papa Christo's. OPA!

Looking for an Italian deli/bakery in Hollywood

I'm a big fan of Bay Cities Italian Deli in Santa Monica. Their Italian bread makes the best sandwiches. But it's not always convienent to make it out there from Hollywood. Is there a place like it in, or at least close to it, nearer to Holywood?

Real, Traditional Club Sandwich in LA?

The best club sandwich I've had in town is at Doughboy's on 3rd. Everything is fresh and the toasted french pan de mie bread is killer, but not square. Lulu's on Beverly make a very good traditional club sandwich - square bread diagonal cut.

Looking For Cannoli in OBX

Five Guys Burgers (Los Angeles) - New locations Planned?

Yes rapture AND bliss! As for the "Better Burger" range, Have to admit never been to The Habit(but will try it soon), Fatburger's quality varies tremendously from location to location. and In-and-Out has always sucked it. The burgers are thin and overwhelmed by the topping & the bun. And I have never had a good order of fries there. Five Guys has meatier burgers, a better selection of toppings and the fries, as you agree, are miles ahead. As for sweet potato fries, they are OK every once and a while, but when I think "Burger and Fries" I do not think sweet potato fries. If Five Guys isn't your thing. Great, that just means a shorter line.

Five Guys Burgers (Los Angeles) - New locations Planned?

On the Five Guys website, they list a new one opening at 5550 Wilshire Blvd as "Coming Soon." That is roughly Wilshire and Burnside. Two blocks east of Hauser. A Five Guys less than 4 miles from my home? Oh, Rapture! Oh, Bliss!

Looking for good fried chicken in OBX

We finally made it to The Rundown Cafe's Monday night fried chicken last night and it was great! You were right everyone else there was having the fried chicken. It was crispy perfectly seasoned, not greasy... perfection. The sides were good too. The garlic mashed potatoes were good as were the green beans, with little bits of ham. My Mom is a collard greens nut and ordered the greens as both of her sides. She gave them the thumbs up. Dinner starts at 5pm and we were there by 5:15 and the place was packed. Get there early. Now I have to wait til Friday to try Kill Devil Grill's fried chicken. The Rundown Cafe will be hard to beat.

Five Guys in Culver City...when?

I have heard mid-May is the projected opening.

Best Mac and Cheese - LA

We just had some righteous Mac and Cheese at the 101 Coffee Shop on Franklin. The cheese was thick, not soupy, and stuck to the big pasta shells. For an extra couple bucks we had bacon added on and this took it to a whole other level. Worth a try.

Plumpy’nut peanut food to combat starvation

I actually tried Plumpy Nut yesterday. I am doing work with Doctors Without Boarders and they brought samples to the conference. It was interesting. It was like a thick and pasty natural peanut butter with a slight hint of chocolate. To my Americanized taste buds, it was not very sweet and had a little sour milk after taste. We saw footage of kids eating it and they were enjoying it immensely. But of course these poor kids were suffering from malnutrition. The smiles on their face almost made me cry.

Five Guys in Culver City...when?

Last week Careerbuilder.com posted a listing for managment jobs at the this Five Guys location. Hopefully that means soon!

Five Guys in Culver City...when?

I have heard the Five Guys Burgers & Fries is coming to Culver City. Does anyone know when?

BBQ in Outer Banks?

Corolla Village BBQ is awesome!. We get dinner at least twice when we visit every fall. They close when they run out of food, sometimes it's 4pm sometimes it's 7pm. It was run by a guy named Rich. I get it with sauce on the side, But I do that for everything. Make sure you get an extra chicken if you want to make a great smoked chicken salad the next day. If you looking for the real deal in Corolla, look for the sign and go to Corolla Village BBQ. Here's a few photos.. The last one is of Rich

Goodbye Del Taco at Santa Monica and Highland.

The Del Taco at Santa Monica and Highland closed for good today. I heard the building is being torn down and a something built in it's place. I've had many a late late night/early early morning snack from there. My wife and I dropped by and had one last order. A Big Fat Steak Taco and a couple Chicken Soft Tacos. It will be missed.

Beef Ribs

They sell all ribs and chicken by the pound. I've never gotten less than a half slab. I can't remember the exact price but it is reasonable. Don't forget the corn! Let me know if you try it. Another tip: Buy a chicken, put it in the fridge and the next day you can make some of the best chicken salad you're every had. ENJOY!

Beef Ribs

If you are tooling around the Valley on a Saturday afternoon and you want some tasty beef ribs stop by Handy Market at Magnolia and Buena Vista in Burbank. They have a BBQ set up in their parking lot that doles out some mighty fine Q. I've liked everything I've tried there but I never stop without getting some beef ribs. I do sauce on the side, but that's how I roll. I also always get grilled corn on the cob. The beef ribs are thick and meaty. It's a Gnawers paradise.

Delancey on Sunset

My wife and I had a great meal at a place in Hollywood called Delancey. We have been driving past it on Sunset for a while and had always said we should check it out and today we did. The food was excellent. They had a wide assortment of pizzas and other Italian dishes.
We split a chicken panini and what they call a “Prospect” pizza w/ smoked mozzarella, fontina, parmesan and pecorino cheeses. We enjoyed both very much. The pizza crust was very light and tender and the cheeses were superb. The panini was tasty and came with a simple side salad with balsamic vinaigrette, equally tasty. Everything seemed very fresh. The prices were reasonable.
We plan on going back. They advertise “House Made” pasta that I’m very interested in trying as well as many of the other kinds of pizzas. They also have a large beer and wine selection that will be explored at a later date. The service was great and the atmosphere was nice and low key.
So, if you are in Hollywood and looking for a good meal, I would highly recommend Delancey.

Searching for Souvlaki in Hollywood

Hello All,
I'm looking for a really good chicken soulvlaki sandwich in the Hollywood area. I've had, and love PapaChristo's, but sometimes we want something a little closer. We also like Cafe Bravo, but again something closer. In a perfect world it would be a "Tere's Mexican Grill" level place(in location, price & food quality) that was Greek.
Any thought?
Thanks!

the best SANDWICH in (Los Angeles) period.

The Roasted Lamb and Feta sandwich at Papa Christo's will ROCK YOUR WORLD!

Ginger Snap Ice Cream

Both are great! The Maple Blondie WAS at the Pavillon's at Melrose&Vine. I never did find the Elton John "Goodbye Yellow Brickle Road" from a few years ago. Sigh.

Ginger Snap Ice Cream

Has anyone seen the Ben & Jerry's Ginger Snap limited edition ice cream in their local grocery store? the "Flavor Locator" on the B&J website said it should have been at the Pavillions at Melrose & Vine. It was not. So If you have seen it , and better yet tried it, let me know.
Tanks!

Where To Find Po Boy Bread?

You might want to try the bakery at Whole Food Market at Fairfax & Santa Monica. I buy their ciabatta rolls (quite ofter still warm) and make great sandwiches, They also have a good selection of other types of fresh rolls.

Best French Onion Soup???

I await the re-opening of Doughboys on Third. They used to have one of the best French Onion soups around. I hope it's the same.

Corned beef hash??? ANyone??!

I tried the TJ's Roast Beef Hash recently and loved it. I used about a third of the packet fried it nice and crispy, dropped a few eggs in the middle and it was great. I will keep a packet in the cupboard from now on. Major Thumbs Up!

Yech! Rocco's on Wilshire-- are they under new ownership?

Let me say from the start that my wife and I have been going to the Rocco’s on Wilshire for about two years. It seems like the same people have been there. I don’t know if different people were running it before we started going. I hope I’m not hijacking your thread with a little Rocco’s defense.

My wife and I had a great meal at the Rocco’s on Wilshire just last night. It was very tasty as usually. We split a Caesar salad w/ grilled chicken and cheese pizza. Their Caesar dressing as light with a little lemony kick. Their pizza dough is always tender and a little chewy. I also have had their pasta in the past which were also top notch, especially the ravioli. Try it with chicken and pesto. They also have this thing there called “Leo's Carb-less Ziti” which is a dish filled with pieces of sausage, pepperoni, meatballs and melted cheese. The meatball pieces I had in there were firm and meaty. We scoop out chunks of this cheesy goodness and spread it on the pizza. We don’t order it every time…because we’d be dead. But it is a great treat every once and a while
We have been going there for about two years.

I have not had the Meatball Parm sandwich but I have been disappointed with the Chicken Parm sandwich, the grilled chicken is cut into stripes and is used for their salads too. I think a Chicken Parm sandwich should have a whole breast, not small stripes, But maybe that’s just me.

So as regular customers of Rocco’s on Wilshire, We give it a big thumbs up. And it’s because of the great food and friendly staff (Angie Rocks!) that we are regular customers.

Looking for a new Ben & Jerry's flavor

I'm looking for the new Elton John "inspired" flavor. It's called "Goodbye Yellow Brickle Road".
It's Chocolate Ice Cream with Peanut Butter Cookie Dough, Brickle Candy Pieces, & White Chocolatey Chunks. It's one of those limited batches. Has anyone tried it? Has anyone seen it the the around ? Especially around Hollywood, but anywhere. Thanks!

Underwhelmed at Father’s Office

Wow, I'm away for a day and I come back to this. I have said my piece on the burger and I stand by it. The service at Father's Office has been mentioned. Our experience with the staff was fine, very nice and friendly. They could have used a few more of them though. Standing 5 people deep in a line to get a beer and pay the tab got old quick. Thanks for all the responses. This was a bigger hit than my "Looking For A Good Churro" thread.

Underwhelmed at Father’s Office

Last night I finally had a chance to go to Father’s Office in Santa Monica. I keep seeing their name on lists of “Best Burgers in LA”. So I order “The Office Burger” and a side of Frites. The fries were more like warm potato straws, interesting change of pace, but not my fry of choice. Now the burger, the bun was fresh, the grilled onions, while good, were a little overwhelming. The biggest problem was the burger itself. The patty had the consistence of meatloaf. Very dense and over ground, like meat particleboard. And while I like that for meatloaf, I hate it in burgers. So I won’t be going back. The pork-pie hatted hipster crowd did help either. But if the food rocked I could deal with that, but it doesn’t.
