Foods Most Eaten

hummus
tortilla chips
hot sauce
berries
banana
stir fry
Family foods I thought was normal
i personally hate ketchup but really enjoy in on runny eggs (with toast for dipping). normal in my house, lol.
New Whole Foods, what should I buy?
the 365 brand OJ and salsa are some of the best i have ever had.
and the salad bar is a great (albeit a bit expensive) lunch option.
Rigatoni D at Maggiano's
every time i go to maggiano's i can't help myself and always order the rigatoni D - it is delicious...i've tried making it but it doesn't come close to their dish.
What Food Trend are You So Sick Of?
personally - i love cupcakes ::hides in a corner being boo'd::
What did you have for breakfast today?
i had 2 eggs scrambled with a "taco style" cheese sprinkled in, 5 strawberries, OJ and coffee.
Cleaning up after dinner.
i don't own a dishwasher but i can not go to sleep if there are dishes in the sink so everything is hand washed pretty much as soon as it is done being used...maybe a glass from a late night drink but that is about it.
Nine Cuisines, One Dish Each
i use this recipe at home with a few changes, i add garlic and a bit more spice heat. pretty good!
Nine Cuisines, One Dish Each
if you ever see chili chicken on a menu (in the apps/starters) it's practically the same thing, it is delicious!
Nine Cuisines, One Dish Each
1. Italian: angel hair, garlic, hot peppers, olive oil, parm, salt/pepper
2. Indian: chicken 65
3. Mexican: street style tacos
4. Chinese: vegetable lo mein or flounder in xo sauce with bok choy
5. Thai: pad thai
6. French: moules frites
7. American: fried chicken
8. Middle Eastern: falafal
9. Eastern European/Russian: pierogies
What Food Trend are You So Sick Of?
i want to disagree with the thai noodles, you need to buy the correct spices, seasonings and also get that wok hay technique to give it that mmmm flavor. but a good recipe, a good wok and a little patience and yes, they can be over-rated.
Chinatown Restaurants with the Fried Noodles
oh that is disappointing, i have always had good, hot egg rolls there (unsure if they were pre-rolled but they were not frozen variety).
Chinatown Restaurants with the Fried Noodles
i often agree with you on the disappointing...the egg rolls are great as are the soups. every time i went i would always see other asians eating the clams so one day i finally ordered them as well - delicious! the one thing gets me though is most of the stuff does not come with rice so it needs to be ordered separately.
Brunch Near the Art Museum
+2 for figs!
also walkable in the neighborhood is the diner little pete's, the bishops collar, london grille (never tried but i know they offer brunch, along with a bloody mary bar) and my personal favorite mccrossen's ($20 for a good meal and unlim bloody mary's and mimosas).
caledonia spirits - barr hill gin
hi all -
i was recently gifted a bottle of this wonderful honey infused gin.
i have searched the web but can't find any ideas for it's use.
i tried it in a martini and it was just too much for it when adding the vermouth and olives.
it is great chilled.
i am thinking maybe with some st. germain as an idea?
anyone ever try it and have a drink idea for me?
otherwise i will continue drinking it straight.
thanks!
Sandwiches at home - no cold cuts
i love "doctored up" grilled cheeses, why don't i ever think to do great fast food burgers minus beef - i will now!
What food find still haunts you - that you had once and haven't found since?
nah, i think cheese was the kind out of a bag (also used on nachos) served in a cup.
though i can't imagine they wouldn't do t if you asked.
Those crazy French! How do YOU eat your burger?
there must have been a recent response in here to someone cause it was on the recent conversations page so i am going to try and jive it back together! i know it otherwise died in 2008.
i eat a lot of veggie burgers in the summer, cooked outside on a bbq at my dads house by the beach.
standard -
in order slightly toasted on the grill seedless bun (bottom)
sriracha
garden burger original patty
fried or raw onion
tomato
cheese (usually it's plain old american melted)
bbq sauce or green chili (from a bottle)
lettuce or spinach if we have it
top bun
all assembled on the grill, and flipped over to heat the top real quick.
pretty perfect - i will add other things available from time to time, like sauteed mushrooms and avocado but the above is what we normally have so it is really easy to throw together.
Got a good salad dressing recipe?
my go to is (i don't measure) but for your sake, 1 spoonful each olive oil and vinegar (red wine or apple cider but feel free to play around with it), a hit of lemon juice (fresh is best), fresh chopped garlic (just a little goes a long way), salt and pepper and then either a few grates of parm cheese or a fork mustard (preferably dijon) whisked together...really just a baseline recipe but i love it. those measurements dresses 2 salads usually, i don't like too much dressing.
How do you like your cheese fries?
as a rare treat i like to make nachos using fries as a base instead of tortilla chips.
but as for straight up cheese fries i like melted cheddar and old bay and dip into gravy if available...jersey diner love at its finest right there!
the restaurant down my street does oven melted mozz, bacon, green onions and dip into ranch...heart attack waiting to happen of amazingness!
and i prefer crispy, thinner fries as opposed to steak fries.
What is one tip that you learned about cooking that was simple but made a huge difference? [old]
season as you go AND a little pasta water in the pasta sauce makes it all come together!
"What's that?" - grocery store edition.
fully agreed - in the original thread, i wasn't speaking of different asian vegetables...just simple things like potatoes (in general, not specifics) or apples or carrots just the broad basic type of veg. i don't expect anyone to be able to differentiate things like the 20 varieties of apples.
"What's that?" - grocery store edition.
that's understandable, just saying she wasn't in her "younger" days and i was surprised and it made me think of other potentially similar stories so i thought i would bring up the topic. :)
"What's that?" - grocery store edition.
I do not believe they had other varieties, however my receipt simply said "plum" but you are correct, I did not think it may have been a type of plum.
"What's that?" - grocery store edition.
Today I was in the grocery store and as the cashier is checking out my items, she came across a bag of fruit and she asked me what they were. I was a little surprised she did not know they were plums, this lady was probably in her late 20's or early 30's as well, no accent so I don't think she was from another country originally.
I get asked what produce is often especially when deciphering different lettuces, peppers and always the great parsley/cilantro debate but I was surprised on this one.
What about the rest of you, anything you get asked in the store that surprised you more than normal?
Any memories of "poor people food" from your childhood that you still crave?
we had that sandwich maker growing up too and i loved it. we would always make monster grilled cheeses with tons of things inside like tomatoes, onions, hot peppers, etc and without fail we would burn our mouths with the first steaming bite into the bubble because of how sealed up the insides become...loved the crispy cheese edges though!
