Ethiopian food in Orange County

Hi folks,

I just developed a craving for Ethiopian food - honey wine, injera, stews, etc. Are there any good Ethiopian places in Orange County that someone can recommend, especially if they are in the Tustin/Irvine area!!! Thank you!

Medialunas de grasa

Hi folks,

Every once in a while, I get a craving for the medialunas de grasa I had in Argentina every morning during my 2 visits there. I can't quite find any here locally. Does anyone have a recipe for this? I can't find an English language recipe anywhere. Thanks so much!

Mate in Orange County

Wonderful! Claro's is not too far away at all! I will check them out. And, I am sure mate in a french press is superior in extracting the best flavor, but I love the ritual of pouring my yerba in the mate, shaking it upside down, tilting it as I adulterate the product with orange peel and sugar, and giving it just a bit o room temperature water to moisten the leaves before adding the hot (but not boiling!) water. I don't know when it happened, but somehow, the ritual became much more satisfying than the drink itself.

Thak you both!

Mate in Orange County

Hello folks! Love these posts - read often and appreciate the opinions of all you posters but rarely do I find myself in a position to be additive...until now! ;-)

I need to buy a new gourd for my mate and would appreciate any exposure to any Argentine stores in OC that sell mates and bombillas. I know Whole Foods carries them under a kit by Guayaki, but their yerba is terrible (imho) and the products are overpriced. Thanks for any advice!

Time for Korean Grilling

This sounds delicious! I'm going to make the recipe for my husband and myself but it would be too spicy for my mom and kids (1 and 3 yo). Have you made a mild version of this? Is it just as good if I cut out the peppers or maybe cut back to a 1/4 of the recipe? Just curious. Thanks!

Suddenly, 90% Less Cooking Shows

Thank you for bringing this up! I have felt the same way. I can't figure out why FoodTV got rid of their wonderful cooking shows unless they could not afford the budgets for these shows any longer. Where are the great chefs we used to watch? Instead, we watch their contest winners or watch hosts like Robin who are not my cup of tea.

It's as if they took a lesson from MTV and decided to cut out the foundation upon which the network was built, replacing it with shows that offer very little sustenance to us. Would love an answer.

Roasting Corn

Thank you all. Yesterday, we tried it with the foil method which was great - and it was the only choice since we needed the grill to cook the meat. I want to try all of these methods though, so we'll have to plan a few more outings methinks!

Roasting Corn

Would love advice on how to roast corn over an open fire pit. I love that smoky flavor and would like to replicate it at a barbecue on the beach! We will be using a firepit as much as possible for cooking, but I don't know much about roasting corn in the fire pit.

Do I just soak the corn for about 20 minutes in water, leaving the husk and silk intact, and then just place them next to the flames? Should I wrap it in aluminum? Would appreciate your advice. Thank you!
