The Old Place in Cornell

The highlights of my trip to Mexico City

We only had 4 days. We loved Pujol and MerToro. For tacos we liked Tacos El Rey in Polanco and Kaliman. Pujol was one of the best meals I've had.

Maison Giraud in Pacific Palisades has the greatest croissant in the world

I like Maison Giraud's croissants better than Almandine Maison Giraud also had some great cookies Sunday.

Shakshuka?

Leo and Lily's in Woodland hills makes a good version, although not spicy. I make it at home a lot.

9+ days in Mexico City: The Trip Report

Thanks for the report. I'm going in a week, staying at Gran Hotel Ciudad de Mexico. We have reservations at Pujol. It was a toss up between Pujol & Dulce Patria. Your report reconfirmed my intuition....eat at family run places and street food and skip the higher end places. I understand that they are good, but it sounds like with so much fresh, great food to be had, it's not necessary. Also agree with, it's fun to interact with the person cooking your food. Thanks so much, I'll be using your great tips next week.

Best hot dogs & onion rings on the Westside?

wow, the tempura onion rings my husband and I had (once) at Umami in Santa Monica were absolutely inedible, just terrible, cold, greasy, no flavor. Could have been an off day, or an off location.

Visiting from NYC - what's the "best" of the things that aren't great here?

oh no, do not go to gladstone's (clue: mud pie alert ) it's just terrible or el cholo, which is also terrible, think disneyland mexican food. these places are certainly not representative of L.A.

Visiting from NYC - what's the "best" of the things that aren't great here?

I love Guisados, downtown for tacos

Visiting from NYC - what's the "best" of the things that aren't great here?

The Naan Hut for freshly made sangak and other breads. I have not had any of their other food, but the bread is amazing. In West L.A. on Santa Monica Bl., tiny place.

9+ days in Mexico City: Where should we EAT?!

Thank you so much. Just from pictures, Dulce Patria looks much warmer than Pujol. How would you compare the two? Also, if going to Dulce Patria for a 2:00 meal, is the dress code as dressy, suit & tie?
Thanks so much for all your help

9+ days in Mexico City: Where should we EAT?!

Thank you Christina. I was debating between Pujol and Dulce Patria. Approximately how much is a meal at Dulce Patria?

9+ days in Mexico City: Where should we EAT?!

I'm going in a couple weeks, would love to hear your report before I go!! We have reservations at Pujol, but now I'm wondering if it's worth it with all the great street food.
