Solo weeknight dining in Stamford

I will be in Stamford for a conference, and I'm staying at the Hilton. Is the restaurant there any good? I'll be on my own for dinner,on a Monday night, and would like to find a place where I can sit at the bar alone (maybe with a book) and still get a great meal and a glass or two of wine. I'm up for any kind of food, as long as it's good, well prepared, high quality, etc. Alternatively, I may just order take-out, depending on how the day goes. Any recommendations?

Looking for a great "special occasion" restaurant in the Great Barrington area

I love JA...but the past few times I've been there (during 2008-2009) the service has been terribly disappointing: slow, understaffed. Anyone been there recently? Have things improved in that department?

solo dining in Auburn, MA

I'm staying in Auburn, MA for one night (business) and I'm looking for a good place to get dinner by myself. I'd prefer to sit at a bar where I can get a decent meal and a few drinks. Any suggestions?

cocktail book that uses different bitters?

I'll check that one out. I figured it's a long shot, but a query worth posting nontheless. Thanks!

cocktail book that uses different bitters?

Thanks, but I'm looking for an actual book, not just recipes to use for myself. It will be part of a gift.

cocktail book that uses different bitters?

Well, I don't need a book with recipes particular to Fee brothers per se, just recipes calling for bitters beyond Angustura, orange or Peychaud's varieties.

cocktail book that uses different bitters?

I just bought a set of Fee Brothers flavored bitters as part of a gift, and I'm hoping to find a cocktail recipe book that will call for these different kinds of bitters. Does anyone know of one?

Allium, Great Barrington, MA?

I stopped in at Napa once for a quick lunch. It was 1pm on a Saturday and the place was empty. I sat at the bar and ordered a glass of wine and the Caesar salad. The wine was fine, though their wine list doesn't veer to far from your typical $10 a bottle grocery store selection, which was disappointing for a place that considers itself a wine bar. Anyway....the Caesar salad involved chopped up romaine leaves -- all pale, mostly the spines, not many darker, leafier pieces -- dressing that tasted like Ranch, and grated parm that looked like it came straight out of Sargento's bag. The croutons were salty but otherwise flavorless and too hard to be pierced with a fork. The bartender was very polite and attentive, however. Hopefully he'll find a better gig somewhere soon.

Allium, Great Barrington, MA?

One of my favorites in the tri-state area. Beautiful inside with very friendly staff. I've never had a bad experience there, and I've been there maybe 5 or 6 times now. The drink menu is innovative and the cocktails are delicious and well balanced. Last week I had one with celery juice and gin and I'm about to buy a juice extractor so I can make them at home, it was that good. Never too sweet or gimmicky, but well balanced and with great, unexpected flavor combos. The food is almost always perfect. When it's not, it's still very tasty and well prepared. I enthusiastically recommend you try it out for yourself.

solid food along rt 44 in western ct

I make that exact drive every day, and sad to say there's not much going on. Green Papaya in Canton has decent Thai food in a casual atmosphere. Old Speckled Hen in Norfolk seems to have closed, but it looks like there's some work going on in there. Maybe a new place will open up soon.

lunch on the road in Portland, ME

Hello..I will be driving from CT to Canada and would like to stop in Portland for lunch. Can anyone suggest somewhere relatively quick/easy with great food? Anywhere in or around Portland would be fine. Thanks!

one night in Camden

I apologize if this is covered somewhere else on the bords; I looked but couldn't find much. My husband and I are driving from PEI to CT and will be stopping in Camden, Maine for one night. We plan on having dinner at Francine Bistro but would like a nice place to stop for a drink as well. Any suggestions?
