Business Dinner in Manhattan Suggestions

Just curious, is this dinner only for Kosher diners? I agree with everyone else so far, can't really go wrong with Prime Grill. Fits the business dinner model.

passover programs 2013

Was not at the program but didn't hear anything negative. I have been to a few events that they did in Seattle (they are the only decent game in town) and I have had nothing but good experiences with the affairs. From talking to my contacts in Seattle I know that they have been researching this for a while because they want to do it the right way. sadly, too far from the East Coast

Can kosher "crabmeat" be used to make crab cakes?

Sorry, I thought I was responding to the OP. Either way it is just another crab cake recipe and this one uses larger pieces of the fake crab and they don't fall apart when cooking.

You may like the recipe though if you try it....We did!

MAUZONE IN THE FIVE TOWNS

I have spoken to a few of the people in the know and they told me that the retail has not been good for them for years so they are going to focus on the catering. They believe that the business model is dead and there is not much profit there anymore. Consumers want One Stop Shopping such as Brachs or Gourmet Glatt. If you notice as well that end of Central Ave. is pretty dead as well.

They sold to Shragi Gross and Danny Gluck. The Main Street store sold as well but forgot to who.

Wish them luck......Not sure if they will make it though.

MartyB....there is more to food than a cheap chicken special, maybe try some other food once and a while and expand your pallet.

please help! can i have a normal honeymoon?

To answer the question, yes and no. It all depends how exotic you want.

For starters, Marty B, what part of the thread starter saying Israel is not an option did you miss or just ignore?

Unless you try out to new Resort in the Dominican Republic or wait until next winter for the Acapulco resort you are out of luck for a warm carribeanesque destination. As others have said you can have Chabad cook your meals but probably not what you are looking for.
You can go to Europe and have the options of restaurants or you can do the same in certain South American countries......I say, take 2 weeks and go down under. Between Melbourne and Sydney you will eat well.

Howard 1st, you are absolutely wrong.

As weinstein5 has answered there are 2 delicious vegan options which are under the vaad. very very tasty and affordable.

There is also an excellent dairy / PIzza store under the vaad which can stand up to any Kosher Pizza place. Fresh Pasta, made to order exotic pizzas and here is a new concept that kosher establishments always seem to miss the boat on.....IT IS CLEAN!
http://www.islandcrust.com/

It is on Mercer Island by the albertsons with the large kosher counter.

Hope that helps.

Cal Delight Noodle Boxes

Had the Pad Thai box last night. Was not impressed at all. Way too artificial tasting. Makes the Lucky Chen Noodles look like a gourmet meal.

Now with that said, it was very very easy to cook. 1 bag for noodles and one bag for sauce to open.

Anyone try Bistro Grill's 5 Town's $8 specials?

I had the mergez sandwich. I can agree with molder on the taste...very good...but the size? Tiny, and I am not a big person with a big appetite. Left me wanting more than the 4 bites I took it down in.

Pesach in a hotel - worth it?

MartyB,

Stop living like its 1978. Times have changed prices have changed. Just think about the logistics of making Pesach in hotels for the Caterers. Much of the food eaten on Pesach in hotels has been cooked a few months before and has been frozen. Does anyone really think that if they are cooking 1500 meals a day its all fresh? That means the caterer has to stop some of his jobs in Feb and March just to get Pesach out of the way, so that is an extra expense.

They have to get all the food there as well. Remember, Gas is not 60 cents a gallon. LIke all other goods, food costs money to transport. Food prices going up for Pesach is a given as was mentioned before. And paper plates Martyb....Really? For one it is still Yom Tov so lets have some class, but think about the costs of that as well. 500 people at a program, 3 meals a day.....each person averages 2-3 plates at buffets sometimes.........not that cost effective in the end.
You don't want to cook but want to be served? Rent a chef?

Queens and no breakfast...

As was mentioned before, Main Street bagels was open, There is also Kosher Corner Cafe right across the street, or youl could have ventured about a 5 minute drive down Union Tpke to Cafe Muscat or the bagel store down there (the name escapes me right now)

Gourmet Glatt & more in Queens

I have hard 2 things regrading Gourmet Glatt

1) It will be an offshoot of Gourmet Glatt in the 5 Towns

2) A manager is leaving Gourmet Glatt and is looking for investors to open up a 1 stop shopping Gourmet Glatt type of supermarket.

Either way, they are researching the area to find out if people will spend that extra few bucks for a better cut of meat mentality.

Can you add duck fat to Matzo Balls? Instead of schmaltz? (or veg oil) Or is this a BAD idea...

I have tasted duck fat Matza Balls many times and I can confirm that they will come out awesome. Go for it!

Kosher Cake Decorator

It isn't Jersey but Pittsburgh has an awesome bakery under the vaad where she makes some cakes on par with Ace of Cakes. I know they ship their bakery goods so I am guessing they can do something with a cake.
