"Lady's Izakaya Special" at Sanuki no Sato

Hey Exile Kiss,

I know you just did Kotohira. Try out Sanuki No Sato and tell me what you think. Sanuki No Sato used to be former Dodger Hideo Nomo's favorite place. I heard former Yankee baseball player Hideki Irabu tried to open up a place called Super Udon (RIP) that was across the street from Otafuku to capture some of that udon craze.

DineLA @ The Bazaar

Hey Exile Kiss,

I went there last night and just starting to report back in my blog. You forgot about the cheesesteak which is $7 each as an appetizer. Most of the desserts are $10 each. You minus that $17 from $44 = $27 for the three tapas (which fits your average of $9). Our group spend an avg of $32 for the taps, so it's worth a little saving.

More importantly it got us to the place, so even if you don't want to do DineLA, it's worth going there.

Taiwanese food in Cerritos?

Some of those places are hidden as Tea shops like Dolphin Bay in Artesia where it is across the street from Ranch 99 market. It serve some decent eats like sausage and stinky tofu, but it is the drinks that draws the kids. It's not bad for a value.

The other one is called Yummy Bobba. It has those economic meals (essentially buy 4 dishes for twenty bucks or so). That one was decent. They have some decent toppings for shaved ice. Not bad of a find.

Guppy Teahouse is not really a Taiwanese food place. They are more HK cafe style food and a few other Chinese cuisine. That place cover so many types of dishes and is all over the place trying to cover all bases. I think they more known for their gigantic shaved ice.

Caanan is decent, but went downhill the last few years. I don't think they are true Taiwanese. About five years ago, they were not bad, but changed ownership since that time.

There is a Formosan restaurant that is double as a "Teppan" steakhouse in the same plaza as Yummy Bobba. I liked that place for some of the traditional comfort food. Not an endorsement, but Jay Chou and his hommies goes there for a meal a few times. Hey, if a Taiwanese pop star goes there, you might put it on the radar.

Hope you did go to a few of those places this weekend and not get stuck with bad imitation of Chinese food that is operated by Koreans. The two I can think of in Cerritos/Artesia area are not that good. LOL

The Mystery of Dean Sin World, and our forced alternate at Qingdao Bread Food (also deconstructed)

Hey Thi, it's a common reaction because a group of foodies and I went to the place last week. They had pan fried bao that afternoon and four of us busted out the cameras. They were laughing pretty hard on our needs to take those photos of dumplings and bao.

The potstickers were good and the bao were awesome.

NBC it still good? Or is Ocean Star Better?

If it's between the two options you gave, I go with NBC.

Ocean Star is just not the same anymore. I would suggest Empress Harbor if you are close to Ocean Star as they are also a cart service.

The Mystery of Dean Sin World, and our forced alternate at Qingdao Bread Food (also deconstructed)

Hey Mr. Taster, I had the same exact frustration just like you. They do close early. On weekdays, they close at 7:30 if there is no customer after 7. The owner told me that she sometimes stay late if customer streaming in. My last visit there (which I came in at 7:10pm), she accommodated us until 9pm. Very rare because that plaza is really dead on a weekday even with Giang Nan next door.

Weekend is worse because they close a lot earlier. It's best if you go on Saturday afternoon and not night. But hang in there, you'll catch Dean Sin World one of these days. FYI, they closed on Sunday.

By the way, I do enjoy Qing Dao Bread Food also. I did a review on both Dean Sin World and QDBF for my blog. Definitely worth trekking to Garfield/Garvey for these two places.

hippest LA eateries

2nd that. It wouldn't be hip anymore if it actually get mentioned out in the open.

DineLA at Wolfgang's Steakhouse - Meh. [Review w/ pics]

Hey Nicole, glad you liked your experience here. Yeah, just like your report about this place, I also thought it was worth it to try out Wolfgang's Steakhouse for DineLA. Too bad about the limited choices, but it wasn't all for naught. Great recap of your experience!

DineLA at Wolfgang's Steakhouse - Meh. [Review w/ pics]

Oh yes. That was the bummer part of it. The Filet Mignon was the only thing that offered on the main course that was worth taking. Our group wanted to go back and try their other steaks. For DineLA restaurant week experience, it was worth trying out to see what the place was like.

DineLA at Wolfgang's Steakhouse - Meh. [Review w/ pics]

My take on the same restaurant almost mirrored Burumun's review. Here's the low down:

For $34 on the three course meal, I have ordered the Wolfgang's salad, Medium Rare Filet Mignon with a side of German Potatoes, and cheesecake for dessert.

We had a swell time because of the company we were with. The place was very classy and we lucked out by getting a prime table at a private glass enclave room behind the front dining room. The service was excellent throughout the night and they did have a full bar for service.

As in for the food, I did enjoyed the Wolfgang's salad, the medium rare steak was cooked correctly on the inside (with a little burnt on the outside), and the cheesecake was a meh.

For $34 on this three course meal, it was worth checking out as the regular price for the filet mignon itself was $40. So you do have some benefits, but we don't know if the portion got smaller. Everything else from service to decor did live up to it. I think it was only the food that was just ok.

Definitely go on a DineLA week special because I am torn if I ever will spent it on any other time.

Dim Sum in Rowland Heights?

Two of the more popular ones that are always busy in the weekend. Happy Harbor and New Capital. I would suggest going early to New Harbor if you can.

Dumplings suggestions ?

A little news on Dean Sin World if anyone is planning to go. They were closed since October 20 because of vacation. There was a sign posted on the door stating the time period for return is sometime in December, but I went in on Saturday and they still were closed.

I called the number listed on the door for info on the place and supposedly they will return after the new Year's. So if anyone is planning to visit Dean Sin World, it will be close until further notice or until the restaurant operator comes back from their "vacation".

ps. You can purchase a pack of dumplings by calling the number listed on the door.

Ocean Star was kind of empty today. (?)

Yeah, just as everyone is saying, there are other places people wanted to try. I also noticed that places like 888 and Mission 261 can get a table much easier now. The only places that I saw still have a wait was at New Capital on Focus Plaza and Elite Restaurant.

Triumphal Palace RIP? Any news?

Dumplings suggestions ?

Yeah, I wondered the same thing because they have changed their restaurant hours several times.

I once try to go on Sunday late afternoon, they were close by 5pm. Then the next visit, they close Sunday altogether. Maybe someone will have their updated info.

Chicken XLB at Asian Masala In Artesia (Beef Too?)

Yeah, they took over Vietnam Garden and is across from Quickly Tea House. I know they had opened for the past half of a year. I always wondered if they were good. Thanks for the heads up about the menu offerings.

Chinatown Dim Sum for Dinner?

You can find some of the items here for to-go. I wouldn't suggest dine in here because the tables are greasy and the place is very dirty. Plus they will just serve you with to-go boxes anyways.

Whimsical and Fun! :) Opening Night at The Bazaar (or, The Traditional and Molecular Cuisine of José Andrés) [Review] w/ Pics!

Yeah, funny thing about it was that I seen another blog that have pictures. I think she snuck those in. Glad you were able to get those photos.

Bon Mar Che Bistro--Hong Kong New Territories Village Style Food?

Yes, it does served Poon Choi. Delicious too! I had the duck with shrimp. Next time around, I have to try out the wine chicken.

Where to take "beginners" for Korean BBQ?

I would take them to Manna or Gui Rim. Lower their expectations and progressively taking them to better places. It's also an all-you-can-eat places so it'll minimize the cost of meat.

Donut Man??

Go at any time. One time I went at 2 in the morning and there would be people still coming in to buy donuts. Get the Bear claws or the Chocolate with Bavian Creme. That is the bomb! It's strawberry season for now before Peach season comes along.

As a note, they do close for certain holidays like Easter Sunday.

Best LA Restaurant you can wear Shorts to?

Clearman N' Steins

This is probably a place that you can fit in where most of the patrons are wearing shorts while the waiter is in his black bow tie.

Oh yeah, sorry forgot to add this part. The place is pretty good, but the big problem is that they only have it certain part of the day, but the Cafe Sierra at the Hilton is the other popular choice here.

Recommendation near Cerritos PAC

Interestingly there's an Italian restaurant at Cerritos Towne Center that is to the Performing Art Center that is pretty good called Arte Cafe.

In Artesia, which is close to PAC, I would suggest going to Four Seasons or Caanan on South Street if you are looking for affordable. Ten Ten Seafood is not bad at night and have a good pricing if you come after 9pm.

I also would give Kim Tar (no credit card) a try on 183rd Street also. Cheap and good.

Hope you have fun in Cerritos tomorrow night. For a recital to be held in Performing Art Center will be a treat. That place is spectacular.

Between Redondo and Bellflower?

The other topic of where to eat around Norwalk/Bellflower/Santa Fe Spring will be useful.

What type of cuisine are you looking for? Because there are so many type of places in Gardena, Torrance, Long Beach, Cerritos, and even some in Hawthorne/Inglewood area that contain some wonderful choices. Downey also can in to play. It's a big area, what type of food would fancy you and your friend?

Nail it down and there would be some wonderful suggestions.

Magic Wok didn't work for me, today...

Yup saw that. Thanks
