phx metro cheesesteak recommendation?
Prime rib instead of the standard ribeye is an interesting choice.
Raising Cane's Chicken Fingers -- Huh?
Didn't notice any horseradish or cayenne. Plenty of black pepper, though.
You would have a hard time finding _________in Los Angeles...
Pinks serves a rather mediocre chili dog in my opinion.
Palm Beach County Openings 2012
In-n-Out won't franchise and they're private, so they're severely capital constrained in opening new restaurants. They also won't open a restaurant more than a day from one of their beef processing facilities (Los Angeles, Dallas). Also, historically the controlling members of the family had little interest in expansion.
Does anybody sell extra-rich milk?
I haven't seen that in years, at least at regular supermarkets.
Anything good at the local casinos?
I'm nearest to the casinos at 10/202. I have no idea what their names are. I can drive for something good.
What discontinued products do you miss?
I already miss Reese's Whipps Bars. Can't find them around here (AZ) anymore.
Potato Chip Afficionado
Check out Bob's Texas Style chips if they're in your area. They're a clone of Poore Brothers. Same owners.
Poore Brothers Potato Chips
Do they sell "Bob's Texas Style" chips in west Texas? I know they do in Houston. Bob's is owned by the same people as Poore Brothers. It's a clone of the Poore Brothers line. Bob's "Sweet Texas Onion" is the same as Poore Brothers "Sweet Maui Onion", for example.
south bay bbq?
I think all of Florida south of (and including) Orlando could rival San Jose on your BBQ/Population ratio. Odd, because it borders two great BBQ states, Alabama and Georgia. Few joints, mostly mediocre chains (Sonny's, I'm gunning for you).
I always liked Armadillo Willy's because it was consistent, if not great.
Famous Daves is horrible. I don't think that meat has touched smoke. Corn in the mac-n-cheese? Bleh!
Is Sam's any relation to Sam's Hof Brau?
Hof braus in Phoenix metro?
Think cafeteria style food service serving prime rib, roast beef, sausages of various kinds, mashed potatoes & gravy, etc, with a generally German twist.
What food find still haunts you - that you had once and haven't found since?
Too bad you can't seem to get fresh, unpasteurized juice in regular grocery stores in Florida. Publix and Walmart don't seem to carry it, for example.
pickled jalapenos [moved from General Topics]
No Walmarts around? They'll certainly have it, plus fresh ones too (which are better anyway).
Breakfast Sausage: Patties or Links?
Definitely patties, they're almost always spicer.
Stagg No Beans Chili the worst ever
It's real hard to find canned chili that doesn't contain textured vegetable protein instead of 100% meat. I believe Stagg is one of the offenders.
I Hate Organic Natural Peanut Butter
So do I, but for different reasons:
1) The organics usually don't have enough salt. They're often in the 50mg range per serving, while brands like Skippy are in the 120-150mg range.
2) The organics usually use Valencia peanuts, and I can't stand their flavor.
Prime Rib in Phx/Scottsdale/Tempe?
The Houston's in Scottsdale, which is owned by the same company, also has Prime Rib, but a few bucks cheaper.
The best sausage you ever had
The sausages at most any central-Texas BBQ joint. Tex-German I'd guess you'd call them.
Food Franchises That Don't Suck
I wasn't trying to argue. I was pointing out that the old saw about how it's the water that makes NYC pizza better than everywhere else is probably false. I'm sure somebody has done an actual experiment already.
Food Franchises That Don't Suck
Which, if true, would mean that NYC water is terribly contaminated and unsafe to drink, let alone use to make dough.
Food Franchises That Don't Suck
There's a Grimaldi's in Palm Beach Gardens. Not very convenient but Grimaldi's was pretty good when I tried one near Houston.
Does Wawa still have golden sauce for their hoagies?
Yep, that must have been it. That mustardy flavor would have been great with meatballs.
Does Wawa still have golden sauce for their hoagies?
The sauce I referred to definitely didn't have Ranch flavor, because if it did I wouldn't have put it on my sandwiches.
Szcheuwan/Cantonese chinese restaurant 'near' Aventura
Are there any Szechuan joints in SE FL? I couldn't find any, and the few Chinese restaurants I did find wouldn't ramp up the heat. Oh, they'd listen to you ask for it hot, and agree to serve it that way, but what they served you had minimal heat. The few Thai joints I'd found were the same way.
Best Chicken Wings in Tampa Bay
Where can I get dry-rub (no sauce) wings? I'm pretty sure I went somewhere in Pinellas to have some, but I can't remember where.
Looking for decent Bakery (Bread)
Anybody do good sourdough? What I've tried isn't sour. Certainly not the sour deliciousness of California sourdough. Perhaps it just can't be made in Florida (California Goldminer is from Illinois).
Does Wawa still have golden sauce for their hoagies?
It was in fact called "Golden Sauce". He didn't know who manufactured it.
