Top 10 Chili Dogs in LA
As to Skooby's I liked their fries and lemonade but for whatever reason, that I can't remember, the dog did not impress. It just might have been time and place because as we all know, time and place has a lot to do with how we perceive the food we eat. By the way, speaking of dogs, the dog they used to sell at Costco was darn good. We think the dog of late is not as good, though factoring in cost, it's hard to beat.
Versailles
I should have been more specific. I was not saying LA Versailles is better than cuban food in Miami. I was just saying that LA Versailles is better than Miami Versailles.
Restaurant on Union near SC?
Wasn't there a newish restaurant that opened on Union near SC? Is it any good? Thinking about going before or after a game at the Sports Arena.
Versailles
OK, but to be fair. I've eaten at Versailles in Miami and the restaurants here on both Venice and La Cienaga and I would take the garlic chicken and lechon asado here in a heartbeat over the flavorless stuff they serve in Miami. And so would everyone else in my party that has eaten here and in Miami.
What good AYCE Korean BBQ also has great banchan?
So everyone has their 1 or 2 favorite Korean BBQ place. For us, non-AYCE, it is Park. But I'm looking for a good to great AYCE BBQ place that has really good banchan as well. It also has to have a nice green salad. Thoughts?
Looking for a great Whiskey Sour
Santa Monica east to Downtown and anything in between
Looking for a great Whiskey Sour
My spouse loves a Whiskey Sour made of course with fresh squeezed lime/lemon. Where should I take her for her birthday to get a great one. Great food would be worth a bonus.
Traditional Fresh Turkey Dinner, now in August?
Thanks. I'll give them a try-next time. We got two dinners from one of the places mentioned above, and it was decidedly dry turkey. Stuffing, ok that can be dry or moist. But Turkey, that should always be moist. Next time, we'll give Main Course a try.

Traditional Fresh Turkey Dinner, now in August?
I sometimes forget about KKR because they closed the two I used to go to. Thanks.
Traditional Fresh Turkey Dinner, now in August?
While I appreciate the idea of Cliftons because we used to eat at the one in Century City, and loved it, the one downtown just doesn't do it for us, not to mention the clientele is a little strange some time. Now Juniors, hadn't thought of that. Thanks.
Traditional Fresh Turkey Dinner, now in August?
Where might we find a great traditional fresh turkey dinner, you know with mashed potatoes, gravy, and stuffing, now at the end of August. Preferable mid-wilshire to westside. Thanks.
Playa Del Rey - House Sitting
Tried Outlaws a couple of years ago. Good, but standard, burger and fries. One of those places of which you don't have a specific complaint but you wouldn't necessarily get excited about . Nice folks, though, and we didnt have to wait for a table. The burger was definitely bigger and more substantial than the ones at the Shack and unlike the Shack, you can get a decent salad.
What do you bring to the Hollywood Bowl?
For one show we brought homemadeThai BBQ chicken with Thai cole slaw. For another show, we had salads from Nagilah and some dinner from BLD. Another show we did fried chicken, potato salad and cucumber salad. For another show, sandwiches from Labels Table. And like others, always different appetizers such as cheeses, pates and the like, champagne and good red wine.
Agree that it is a great LA experience.

Smoke City bbq: NOT
I'm truly sorry I did not try the pastrami since I love pastrami. Perhaps my view of the place would be different. But first impressions are often hard to get over.
Smoke City bbq: NOT
I agree with the logic. In fact, it was because Bludsoe's was a longer drive for us, that we ended up trying Smoke City.
Smoke City bbq: NOT
yes, I did quote Gold accurately. Gold liked the brisket as I stated; I just couldn't understand why. He did not like the ribs as I stated and with that I am in full agreement.
Smoke City bbq: NOT
I don't mean to offend on a personal basis, and I do appreciate that taste is indeed personal but anyone that thinks that Smoke City bbq is good genuine bbq, ate there when they were really really hungry, just has not eaten lately at Bludsoes, or Phillips or a lot of other good bbq places here in LA or in Texas, or in Kansas City et seq., or maybe has a financial interest in the venture or knows someone that is an investor. (Someone will question what I mean by "genuine". I can't define it but you know it when you see it, and eat it, to paraphrase the famous line.)
First, in my opinion, there is Bludsoes, which reigns as #1, there is Phillips which is #2, and then there is the rest.. But Smoke City was a whole different animal. It is like some corporate entity decided that "Texas bbq" was going to be the next fast food craze, and tried to emulate it first on a computer, than in real life. The look of the place, down to the fake coke coolers, belongs in Disneyland, as does the food. The pork ribs, which Jonathon Gold said "sucked", indeed sucked. They were of bad taste, and so salty, they were barely edible. The brisket, which others, Gold included, have fawned over, was over cooked, tasteless, and simply not even in the proverbial ballpark as a place like Bludsoes. The beans and potato salad were ok, but the slaw was of Ralphs bulk quality. Putting the slices of white bread on the tray, was laughable; again, some corporate execs idea of what a bbq place is supposed to do.
Let me say that the one positive is that the place is clean and the staff was friendly and nice.
Someone might say that we ate there on a bad night and to give it another try. But our experience was so bad, that we wouldn't think of giving this place another chance. Not when places like Bludsoes and Phillips are within driving range. Hope Smoke City did not sign a long lease.
Best DIRTY Sandwich in LA
Plus one. Love the roast beef and pastrami. Isn't it the number 7?
Best DIRTY Sandwich in LA
Filthy, naughty, greasy, but delicious? Look that up in the dictionary, and you'll see a picture of the original Oki Dog: Flour tortilla filled with two dogs, pastrami, chili, cabbage if you want it, and cheese. I have struck a deal with the wife and cardiologist that I get to have one a year, but only after a UCLA victory!

Why does Jitlada always forget my rice?
That is such a coincidence. Every time you eat there, I seem to get an extra order of rice. :)
Unforgettable PIZZA CRUST you ever eaten in Southern California
Mozza which everyone mentions and Olio which no one mentions. Olio crust is made in a wood fired oven and is almost as good as Mozza's and second best in Southern Calif. Cresent Heights and 3rd. No alcohol :(
Brooklyn Water Bagel Co. Opens in Beverly Hills
Wanted to chime in that I have now tried BWBC twice, and think, to my taste, they are the best bagel around. I like the chewiness, though I know others object, and again to my taste, I don't like a very heavy yeasty flavor or more importantly, smell. Both times, I had them fresh, and then frozen and reheated in a toaster oven. Really liked them both times, and even reheated. Not saying I don't like other bagels, because I do, but I really thought these were the best because of the crackly outside, and soft but chewy inside. Just one bagel lovers opinion.
Fried pickles (spears) and fried pies
I first tried fried pickles in Kansas City, and they were, in fact, chips, and not spears. They have fried pickles at Alondra Hot Wings, though I have not tried them. And I don't know if they are chips or spears.
Pizza in Montebello
Thanks. Maybe I can swing Bollinis for the grown ups and Joes, for the kids.
