What do you think of Bistro St. Ferdinand in Paris?

It's part of a high end chain of brasseries, the one in the 7th is ok. Nice decor, carte prices are a bit rich.

Tucson Great Eats and Food Shopping

We frequent Vivace, Torino and Tratoria Piña, and try not to compare them with our favorites in NYC and BOS. All are north central.

Good, moderately priced Le Marais and beyond

My sister is just back from a stay in the Marais, her favorite by far was Metropolitain (two visits). Sorry, no details available.

First time in Paris

In addition to Dr. T's fine list, I would add the upscale Cafe Constant; nearby and no reservations needed.

Late dinner in Paris this Thursday - corporate account

La Maison du Caviar, a few blocks away, is open til 1 am. I have fond memories of that place, and of my former expense account. Guests of the Geo V will be most welcome on short notice.

Paris - Great place for sole meuniere or sole almandine?

Two spots nearby are Goumard (52E) and Le Castiglione (42E), the Goumard ambiance is worth the higher price, IMO.

A place to meet my boss and his wife for drinks near le Maurice

I second Bar 228, for a Martini or two, but you may want to check out Harry's New York Bar and Le Rubis (wine only).

Bouillon Racine

I'm referring specifically to Bouillon Racine; but I suppose the commentary could apply to most of the large establishments that offer children menus. We like some brasseries, Balzar being one, but seldom see kids there. Good luck.

Bouillon Racine

Even a tourist trap brasserie can be a fun experience, as long as you don't expect too much. Especially on a Saturday night, order dishes that have to prepared to order, and don't let them seat you upstairs. The Menu Enfant should satisfy the kids.

Something near opera/Madeleine/vendome?

The bar area at le Castiglione and Chez Flottes (the Croque Imperial is a personal favorite) serves throughout the day. Popular spots for the local workers in this pricey neighborhood.

Mother-Daughter Trip to Paris: Last Night

Anything that must be prepared to order will be just fine. If you like Poulet roti/ frites, like me, don't order it at odd hours; reheating can be an issue with rotisserie dishes.

We happen to like the way steak tartare is prepared at Balzar; it is open late on Sundays.

Paris restaurants open on May 1?

Chez Flottes, on rue Cambon, once called Brasserie Flottes, is quite ok. If you sit in the bar area there will be no pressure to order a full meal, and they serve throughout the day.

Lourve restaurant - budget - late night

The extensive menu at Chez Flottes, available on line, should satisfy everyone. Don't miss the Aligote. Situated across from the Concorde metro.

Solo in France - Reservations?

There are a number of quality spots near the the Cadran; Dr. T has reviewed many of them. I would add Florimond and Cafe Constant (no reservations/ bar seating available).

When You Ate Too Much At Lunch...

We always eat light in the evening, and usually frequent the high end cafes, like Cafe Constant, and the upscale hotels that offer bar menus. Also, some of the brasseries have tables in their bar areas.

Anniversary dinner in Paris

Le Dali, in the Hotel Meurice, will provide you with an upscale ambiance and him with basic brasserie fare. Pricing reflects the location. He will also like the menus at Cafe Castiglione and Chez Flottes, all within walking distance.

Lasserre Restaurant 17 Ave, F.D. Roosevelt Paris

A former favorite, the prix-fixe lunch was a good deal. Lunch menu is now 80 euros, but they are only open two days per week at midday and the options are few. Dress tends to be on the formal side, and they do not "encourage" tourists, in my experience. Still, for a special occasion, it belongs on a short list.

Paris with non-foodie husband, what to do?

You should have few problems at the high-end cafes, brasseries and hotel restaurants, especially at midday. If you do bring your husband along just to watch you eat, please tell the wait staff that you are Canadian.

Au Bascou should be close by, and the prix-fixe lunch is a good deal.

Father and Daughter Birthday Trip

Another old spot with a Hemingway connection is La Palette, on rue du Seine. The only thing changed is the absence of the free-standing Turkish toilet. Gallerie Documents is just down the street, at no. 53, if you want a poster or print from that era.

Father and Daughter Birthday Trip

Hemingway would not have approved of the Meurice, but we like Le Bar 228; great Martini's and live jazz in the evening. A good place for a Club sandwich too; and who cares about the absurd prices on a special occasion, right?

Good, Non-Chain Places in the 7th/6th arr. w/ Toddler?

The 7th & 6th offer lots of terrasse seating. Admittedly it usually means a few tables on the sidewalk, with an umbrella if you are lucky. We don't have a problem with that. There are a few with large terrasse seating like Cafe D'esplanade or La palette; check out their sites. The French are good with kids, provided they are well behaved. Good luck.

There is a fine Italian, RAP, on rue Rodier, however it is very upscale in quality and price. The menu may not appeal to teens.

Lyon & Vonnas - Experience with Le Restaurant Georges Blanc ?

Also, please note that some of the most expensive dishes may not be included on the package menu. I don't know how flexible they would be re supplements etc. Worth a try.

Lyon & Vonnas - Experience with Le Restaurant Georges Blanc ?

He owns the hotel, and offers a package deal for under 700 euros for two. We love the Homard and Bresse dishes. Our last visit was about four hours long; thank God the hotel was close by.

For the last meal in Paris celebrating a 5 year anniversary...

LGF has a fine lunch menu for 96 euros, three courses. No signature dishes at that price, but you get the same ambiance and fine service.
