U.S. vs. England World Cup AND Wifi

I need to do some work tomorrow morning but need to be wifi connected while watching the big game. Are there any cafes in the City that have flatscreens? A good brunch menu would definitely be a plus.

Namu - Korean Fried Chicken (Disappointing)

I tried the their fried chicken at the Ferry Building. Pretty much had the same experience with it as you had... there was definitely something missing. Luckily the 4505 Chicharrones was right next to them, so I ate a whole bag of that.

What Portland food item(s) should an out-of-towner not miss?

Definitely Toro Bravo! My wife and I just drove in from SF today and we ordered the tasting menu which included bacon-wrapped dates, salt cod fritters, summer fideos, etc. We loved it so much that we are coming back tomorrow night!

One Week in St. Helena

I will be in St. Helena for a business trip and any recs for dinner during the week is greatly appreciated. I would love to try one tasting menu and restaurants with plates under $30 for the rest of the days. How's the Tuesday's Crustacean Crawl at Go Fish?

offal eaters

Finally! Nose-to-tail eaters are finally getting some attention! Most of my offal eating comes from Japanese and Taiwanese food and since you're in Orange County I suggest Shinsengumi for some of the best offal yakitori... my favorite is the tripe. I'm actually planning to do some research on offal eating since I have been eating it most of my life, so please email me if you need some dining tips and additional info. I'm also a UCI alum, Go 'Eaters!

Portland Bachelor Party

I saw the Pacific Northwest episode of No Reservations and the maple & bacon donut is definitely a must-try for us.

Portland Bachelor Party

Thanks for the tip, I wouldn't want my first time in Portland to be eating in a chain restaurant. I will let the guys know about Deschutes and grab some lunch and definitely a pint.

Portland Bachelor Party

Menu looks good nkeane and its right next to our hotel! I love that Pabst is being offered... I wonder if it pairs with the fish or the pork shank?

Portland Bachelor Party

Is Deschutes a chain? The menu reminds me of a BJ's brewery here in SoCal.

Portland Bachelor Party

Any recs for a bachelor party of 10 in downtown Portland on sunday before Labor day? Looking for great food with local beer, something of a "gastropub" style. Like a Father's Office in Los Angeles but that can accomodate a group of 10. We'd like to limit the food (excluding drinks) under $50 pp. We're in our late 20's and have never been to Portland so a place near the club/bar scene would be ideal. Thanks!

Rehearsal Dinner in Temecula/Fallbrook

Thank you kc for your recs. We're actually staying at Temecula Creek Inn so I think Penfolds would be a great option.

Rehearsal Dinner in Temecula/Fallbrook

Can someone please recommend a restaurant for a rehearsal dinner in Temecula/Fallbrook for a group of 40-50 (not in the wine country Rancho California Rd. area). The dinner will be in mid-October 08.

Thanks!

Review: Costa Mesa's Old Vine (Long)

Great post! I've been going for the past year and every meal I've had there was gastronomic! Definitely the best value in SoCal- where else can you get a 4-course tasting menu w/ an informative sommelier for $65! My favorites are the crispy blue salad (greens, crispy proscuitto, crispy fried onions, and blue cheese) and beef & truffles panini (flavorful prime rib and rich truffled cheese) for lunch. The salad is a texture and flavor explosion and the panini is true comfort. Just remember to ask Brandon for a wine pairing with these dishes to cut through the richness. For dinner, definitely try any of the tasting menus w/ pairings and bring friends so you can try additional dishes such as the beef stroganoff and scallops on crispy leeks. His cheese picks are also very tasty.

Square One?

Thanks sbgirl, we decided to pass on Square One based on your post (about the space issue) and instead had great service and food at bouchon!

Square One?

Thanks for the tip glbtrtr. We didn't realize that it was the Summer Solstice Festival so it was an added bonus to the weekend. We ended up eating at olio e limone for lunch and bouchon for dinner. Both great food.

Anyone ever been to Square One in Santa Barbara? I'm thinking of taking my fiancee there tomorrow.

LA Newbie - What/where is a MUST eat?

Definitely Father's Office for a great burger, but get there early, order at the bar and don't ask for ketchup!

Good Bar Food and watch the Laker game in the City

Anyone know of a good place to get some good bar food and catch the Laker game in the City?

Dining report OC: Old Vine Cafe and Marche Moderne

Have not been to Marche Moderne but I must say that Old Vine Cafe has to be the best deal in SoCal! Where else can you find a wine-pairing dinner for two in under $100? The service is attentive and informative. You can definitely get a lot of info about European wine from the Brandon and I have to agree with all of the dishes you mentioned and definitely try their mac&cheese when you return.

Magic Wok didn't work for me, today...

I have lived in Cerritos since January 08 and this is the only Filipino place in the area I keep coming back to. My usual order is the sisig and amplaya (bitter melon) with green beans. Their sisig is crispy, not the usual pig ear version (although I like the pig ear sisig better, but may not be as marketable). Also their crispy pata has to be the best I've ever had: crispy and gelatinous gooey at the same time. These dishes are also great with a bottle of San Miguel after a long hard day at work.
