Looks like Zinburger might be coming to Parsippany, NJ

Collins is better, their strip steak outdoes Arthur's steak 99/100 times. On the burger side, while I prefer Collins, Arthurs does a good job also.

Lunch in Long Branch

I think it is the best place to go if coming from Middlesex County. Sure you have to pay for parking, but the beach crowd is good, not too loud. Lots of places to eat.

We like to grab a few drafts at McCloones or Sirena's. Food is a bit pricey, but generally pretty tasty.

Whole Foods Market coming to Marlboro???

At the time I did not, but did notice that they had them $5.99 a pound over Labor Day weekend. Still have not purchased any.

Easton Thai Kitchen

Noticed a new Thai restaurant in New Brunswick the other day, Easton Thai Kitchen, has anyone tried it yet?

Thai Restaurants in Monmouth County

I suggest either any of the curry dishes (massaman is great, but so are the others) or the Basil Noodles. I always tell them medium plus spicy, and then that I do like it spicy, and they arrive with a nice amount of spice.

The coconut soup with the lime leaves and chicken is also very good.

River Thai in South River is a hidden gem, a few miles closer to Monmouth County. For my $, better than any listed here, and I have eaten at most of them.

Boondocks Fishery & Grill - Red Bank

We went earlier tonight, got there at 5, no wait, the chilly weather probably kept people away.

I got the blackened scallops served with ff, and liked them, the scallops were nicely done. You get 7 scallops and a nice size portion of ff's. I think they were 19.95.

My wife got the fish and chips and did not really like it, she thought the fish was sort of tasteless, too much coating that was crunchy and the fish did not have much of a flaky texture too it.

One daughter got coconut shrimp, 7 shrimp were served with ff. She also liked them, and they looked fine, typical fried shrimp. The other daughter got a cheeseburger which looked fine.

About 1/2 the tables were filled, everyone seemed to be enjoying their food. Some of the salads looked very nice, and those that got the lobster roll seemed happy with them. The service was very good, very quick and friendly. The atmosphere and view of course is very good. Just about every table had brought their own beer, and everyone was in good spirits, which made the place enjoyable to be in.

It's not a high end place, but I think for the price, you get decent food and a great atmosphere, so my assessment is that it is worth a visit. I am not sure I would want to wait in line an hour for it though.

N.J. raids 29 restaurants in liquor scam probe

Regarding the Brunswick Grove, their parking lot seems emptier than it used to be. I called the state to find out what their resolution was, spoke to the guy who led the investigation who told me that he couldn't say anything, suggested I call the Division Director or something like that, but implied that I shouldn't expect much information. I guess the customers rights just don't matter. I can't bring myself to go their again. The owner sits at the bar every night, his high priced german sports car just outside the door. I wonder where the money came from to pay for it. He challenged the charges on Facebook when it came out, but no further announcement of the resolution. What does he think, we are stupid?

Mongolian BBQ.... is it extinct in NJ?

I remember Khiva also. Used to eat there every few months. Forgot my Amex there one night, didn't use it for a few weeks, was eating at Khiva again, went to use it and it wasn't in my wallet. I was eating with the same friend, who said to think back and remember the last time I used it. I thought for a minute and told him it was with him a few weeks back. Went up to the register, asked about it, and the guy took it out of a drawer under the register.

Good food there, my memory says it was a little better quality than some of the buffet places that have similar grills these days.

And to agree with some other posters, I think the sauces are key. I know that Khiva had better meat and sauces than the Mongolian Grill that used to be in New Brunswick.

Whole Foods Market coming to Marlboro???

We stopped in to both WF and Livoti's on Friday evening in the 7-8 time frame. WF was fairly crowded, but not that bad. Prices high, but that is par for the course. Same brand berries as sold at Livoti's were a dollar more for a pint.

Livoti's a little less crowded, but it seemed similar to their other location in product offerings. The seafood counter seemed to have closed for the evening, but the lobsters in their tanks sure looked good, really active scurrying around much more than I usually see in other stores.

Possible new restaurants in Jamesburg

A little bit north of there on 535 is another strip mall with a great seafood restaurant - Mare.

Hopefully the new mall by Wawa gets at least one place worth visiting.

Arthur's Tavern - Morris Plains

Re the Rt 10 corridor, I would add Il Villaggio, casual but outstanding Italian style food.

Arthur's Tavern - Morris Plains

Arthurs was best before it expanded its menu so much. In the 80's there was no scrod, no ribs, etc. Just the $9.95 24oz steak, health salad, pickles, potatoes, plus a few hamburgers, a great chicken salad sandwich, onion soup and maybe a couple of additional items. Sure the steak could be fatty, but they gladly replaced it if you asked. The end cut was a little less prone to fattiness.

Next door Collins had the NY strip steak, fresh sauteed mushrooms, steak fries, even better.

And liters of beer were $3 at Collins, $2.50 at Arthurs. Collins charged $5 for liters of Heineken.

Prices have climbed a lot since then at both places, and Arthur's menu expanded a lot. Collins is still a lot like it was then, although I think they may have changed owners.

There is an Arthur's in North Brunswick, which we still visit occasionally. I used to live down the street from Arthur's/Collins in Morris Plains and visited them hundreds of times over 10 or so years, but it has been a coupld years since my last visit.

Surprised to hear that the Hoboken location is closed.

I suggest just eating at Collins, a better steak, great onion soup, great English burger, served on an English Muffin. Arthur's is good, Collins is better.

Forget the French Dip, we're talking real-deal Chicago Style Italian Beef!

I've had Portillo's, including via their mail order business and it is first rate. I'll have to make a point of hitting Red's during the Christmas to New Years holiday period.

N.J. raids 29 restaurants in liquor scam probe

There has not been much of an update in the news regarding the resolution or settlement of the initial charges. I know that I read that TGI Fridays collectively settled in some manner, but have not heard much about the others. I am particularly interested in Brunswick Grove, since I used to like the food there, but will not visit until I learn of the resolution. I checked with the state, and spoke to the guy who lead the overall investigation. He just said that it is ongoing and because of that, he could not comment.

Out of fairness to the public and to the establishments, it seems that the initial front page headline should be followed up by the media. My sporadic observation re the Grove is that their business is down, which would be unfair to them if the state drops the charges.

East Brunswick - Casa Nova 68 --> Miso Ya

Noticed that in East Brunswick, the closed Casa Nova 68 (formerly Perrone's) location has a new sign for a place called Miso Ya, a Sushi and Asian cuisine restaurant. I do not think it is open yet, but the permanent sign is up by the road. Not sure if they took the liquor license.

New Mexican restaurant coming to Marlboro

Anyone who would compare French Quarter Chicken to Chicken Francaise has never had either dish.

I am not sure where all of the defensiveness re Mexican vs Tex Mex vs Cajun vs American Mex comes from. Who cares? Isn't tasty food the objective? Go to Mexico sometime, and not to the tourist spots. Mexico City, the grand daddy, street food, has nothing on what you can get up here.

Yes, I can second the Hobby's recommendation, a really good deli. I never ate at House of Thai, but do know a few people who ate there, and they kept going back.

Newark, NJ

I worked in downtown Newark for a while, and there really is not. As you mention, there are a variety of the Portuguese/Brazilian places, everyone has their own favorite.

Other than that, of all the places I ate at, the only place I ate at more than once was Dinosaur Barbecue. Sure, they can be criticized for this or that, but I thought the brisket was good, the sauces were fine, and the baked beans quite good.

Albivi Italian Restaurant Milestone NJ

We have eaten there a number of times. The son of the owners is in one of the popular boy bands, so we stop in when in the area, our daughters or their friends like the place. The food is ok, I have really liked it during some visits, other times, it was just not memorable. Nothing bad to say about the place. I will say that the filet, while pricey was really quite good.

World of Beer - New Brunswick

Drove through New Brunswick this evening, noticed that a new place has opened up, World of Beer, at the old Soho on George location. Didn't stop, but when I got home, checked for a web site, and found it. It indicates they have 500 different beers and serve rudimentary tavern food. It was very crowded when we drive by.

Irish pub near freehold, MJ

A friend who lives in Freehold always mentions Moore's Tavern (I think that is its name), and describes it in terms of being a pub type place, not sure whether it would be more English pub though. He raves about the food and prices of the beer during happy hour.

Mimino ~ East Brunswick

I have always been a little leery of this place, as I have never seen anyone eating there, the windows are heavily tinted etc. There is a Korean place next door that is sort of the same. I have gone into both places, looked around, seen no customers, and been looked at by the employees sort of like I did not belong. I know a few in town who have eaten at these places and they have liked them.

Next door to that is Bollywood Tadka , East Brunswick's current Indian restaurant, which I really enjoy.

good pizza in east brunswick/new brunswick?

I will second Mancini's, the best in town for my taste. Many locals that I know, especially those that herald from Queens or Brooklyn favor Vinnie's, over on Ryder's Lane.
