NYC Chowhound visiting Claremont/Pomona

In Claremont, a must is The Forks and The Back Abbey. The Forks has a great menu with a lot of game meat, and wonderful sweet potato fries. The Back Abbey is full of great beers, and I hear their burgers and mussels are excellent!

Best Margarita + best Mexican food (w/ vegetarian options)? Near(ish) Pasadena...

I know you have already eaten but I am going to say you HAVE to go to Margarita's. They have the best margaritas in town, even the original is amazing! They have the best spinach enchilada for vegetarian options as well as frijoles de la olla which wouldn't have lard. I also love their corn cake for dessert. If you go you should ask for Rolando as a server, it makes the experience even more phenomenal!

Intimate date place (setting)? (Pasadena)

When they have flamenco performances at La Luna Negra people get up and dance. Plus the food is good and it's a fun experience.

HUGE Disappointment at Dena House in Pasadena

The Dena House in Old Town Pasadena seemed to be getting good reviews in their first week, so we were excited to try it tonight. The excitement did not last long! It was by far one of the worst dining experiences of my life. It began with a hostess who was dressed in a short skirt that was so tight that it became see-through, very professional! Their menu is a bit overwhelming in that Cheescake sort of way, they have everything from sushi, burgers and sandwiches to pasta and breakfast. It took me a long time to settle on a few sushi rolls and a seaweed salad. The food runner was very confused about my salad and proceeded to tell me she did not know much about sushi, I found this very reassuring. I finished my water before the food was brought out and it was never refilled though the busser did ask when we were finished with our meal if I wanted more water. I ordered a cocktail and they said it was no longer on their menu, strange for a place open one week to already take something off the menu. I ordered a different cocktail, the Yellow Blossom and it was terrible and bitter. I took one sip and didn't touch it for the rest of the meal. My server did not even notice this, and if she did she didn't care to ask. When she did ask how things were going, I responded with "ok" and she just laughed. Our server did not care to improve on our experience, she was inattentive and clearly uncomfortable. The best part is that the restaurant was almost empty. The sushi was okay but certainly not worth our $90 bill for two people! I feel ripped off and would never go again!

Pasadena: cheapish, deliciousish, different?

I second Daisy Mint, I LOVE it! Get the daisy noodles for sure, but I would stay away from the salmon wraps not too impressive!
