REALLY GOOD RIBS AT LONGHORN BBQ VEGAS!

ok FINALLY a place thats got really REALLY good ribs !
good porky smokey flavor and the meat falling off the bone !

i got a whole rack of st louis ribs to go ......and they wrap up the whole rack in ONE PIECE !
none of this cutting the ribs individually so they dry out !
they sell you the whole rack and then you seperate the bones yourself.

i didnt get a chance to try anything else there but i will definitely be going back.

if you are a fan of REAL BBQ this is the best place i have run accross so far in vegas.

i havent been to the salt lick but i hope maybe soon i can try it.
if you are a fan of ribs i dont think you will be disappointed here.

Female dining solo in Vegas

i live in vegas and i eat out on my own all the time. just about anywhere is ok for women on their own. just pick what you like and go for it.

Buffet @ Green Valley Ranch (Las Vegas/Henderson)

OH MAN! i TOTALLY AGREE !
that place is TERRIBLE !
i ALWAYS go to sunset station the food is ALOT better at the buffet.
i was shocked that green valley charges so much for food thats not worth it. BUT..... its GREEN VALLEY and and thats considered fancy shmancy..... THATS what you are paying for !
certainly NOT the food !

GO to the SUNSET STATION buffet !
GREAT prime rib ! for reasonable money.
i was just there tonight ! YUMMMM !

Anyone been to the buffet at the NEW M resort in Vegas?

GREAT! thanks for posting the information.... i cant wait to try it.
LOVE living in Vegas for the food deals alone ! LOL
never heard of carved to order smoked bacon ! YUMMMMM

Chef Flemming's Bake Shop, Henderson NV

i have been to lenotre in paris france LOL but not the one here in vegas...just havent gotten around to it.
i just dont seem to find the time to wander down to the strip too often.
i should make a point of getting around to all the great bakeries in the hotels.

i remember MANY years ago the tropicana had this AMAZING pastry chef back when alot of the hotels were still doing their own baking. i can STILL taste his buttery austrian goodies.

anyway... thanks for mentioning that. seems i need a local pastry road trip.LOL

Chef Flemming's Bake Shop, Henderson NV

LOL ! yeah i have been in Freeds and i know what you mean. i think i was in there once and bought an apricot danish. i didnt go back.
i bet the bouchon bakery puts out REALLY good stuff. one of these days when i am feeling flush with cash... i'll try it.
i LOOOVE a good croissant !

BAD experience with BUZZ BBQ in Vegas

I just got back from Buzz BBQ. i thought i would try it since i have read good things about it here.
well HELL ! that wasnt my experience.

i went out there to get take out....wanted to take home a slab of ribs.
so what happens..... i get the ribs and leave and then drive ALL the way back over to the other side of town where i live.

i should have looked at them first before i took them. when i opened the box instead of a slab of freshly cut ribs i got ribs that looked like they had been sitting around for hours getting all dried out !
it looked as if they hadnt even been covered after they were cut !

i have lived ALL over Texas and for a while in kansas city and when you go into a Q joint to get ribs.... you get your slab and then if you want them cut individually ...they do it for you. BUT HERE! .... they cut the ribs AHEAD of time and let them sit till someone orders them. then they count out 12 ribs and THATS the slab!

so i called them and talked to a manager....and THATS what he told me they do... they cut them ahead of time.
OK.... is it just me? or is anyone else familiar with this kind of thing?
dried out ribs cobbled together to make a SLAB when someone orders a SLAB?

I am SO MAD! but... there is nothing i can do..... i am miles away from them and i am not driving all the way back over there.
i guess its live and learn..... and MY fault for not checking them before i left.
but HONESTLY ! i NEVER heard of anyone selling ribs like this from a place that presents itself as a REAL Q joint.

i have now soaked them in their marginal BBQ sauce and will wrap them up individually for the freezer to have a few here and there for lunches for the next few weeks.
i am so disapointed...i'm not even hungry anymore.

oh well.

Chef Flemming's Bake Shop, Henderson NV

you know what? you're probally right. the prices are most likely fair. its just me.... i dont like paying alot of money for desserts. i am used to living in places that dont charge alot for pastry. i cant even imagine paying $7 for a small piece of cheesecake. LOL.

thats why i like good mexican bakeries. when they are good.... they are a REAL bargin for treats !just talking about it is now giving me the urge to go set something. LOL

Anyone been to the buffet at the NEW M resort in Vegas?

WOW ! Thats a nice touch...being able to get your own cold drinks. i dont think there are any other casinos in town that will let you do THAT!
thanks for the info.

Anyone been to the buffet at the NEW M resort in Vegas?

i know it hasnt been open very long but i was wondering how the food was at the M buffet.
they said they were aiming for locals and making the food REALLY good.
if anyone has been yet i would love t hear about it.

thanks

Las Vegas Local Love + Deals

if you are a fan of chinese BBQ pork or duck... Sam WOO on spring mountain is fabulous.
i make a trip there every so often to get the BBQ pork by the pound and to buy a whole BBQ duck. they do a wonderful job with the pork its got this tremendous seasoning on it that smells of anise. its fragrant and yummy on steamed white rice.
i buy it by the whole piece and take it home. i tell them not to chop it up because i like to cut the pieces myself as i use it.

dont forget to ask for the sauce that goes with it. its SOOO good.
the first day i get it home i have to really be careful that i dont over eat becuase its so tsty i dont want to stop.
if you go make sure you get the steamed white rice they have there too because its a TOP quality brand they use and its VERY tasty as white rice goes.

the duck is wonderful crispy goodness....make sure you get the sauce for that as well.
i buy the whole duck and take it home. i dont like them to cut it for me.
you can buy halfs as well.

i have never gotten round to trying anything else from them because the BBQ is so good.
AND ... the pork freezes very well too. i just finished the last of it tonight from a trip over there 2 months ago and the pork was a tender and delecious as it was the day i got it.

Sam Woo is a real treasure.

Chef Flemming's Bake Shop, Henderson NV

i live just down the road from the place. i have been in there a few times but to my taste its just OK. the pasty is very small and nothing really special. i have been in there on danish day and his danish stuff is good but nothing i'd miss if i never had it again.

i dont care for his breads they are just so so.
all in all there is nothing that i find really outstanding there. its just seems like a bit above standard bakery stuff.

i have to admit i was disappointed i was hoping for better. i give the place about a 7....maybe a 6. it was all just ok.
i dont know why they have to charge so much for their stuff. for god sake..... i just got back from tucson where there is a fabulous mexican bakery on grande street call El Rio that has fantastic empanadas for like 45 cents a piece !
the apricot and pumpkin are wonderful. the dough is so tasty.
its a hole in the wall joint but the stuff they make it terrific.
if they can sell at a decent price how come other bakeries cant?

i hate being ripped off for stuff thats just so so.
anyway... thats just my 2 cents.

roadtrip to PIG OUT at St.Mary's in Tucson !

hey i like those reviews i hadnt seen them before but everything they say is SPOT ON!
i dont see st. marys changing anything anytime soon their stuff is SO wonderful.
why cant more places be like that...where the food is the reason to go.
a true hole in the wall like st marys is priceless.

roadtrip to PIG OUT at St.Mary's in Tucson !

i am SO jealous .... all you have to do is drive accross town. LOL.
i got some of that bread pudding too sitting in my fridge. i'm saving it for just the right time. Mmmmmm.

roadtrip to PIG OUT at St.Mary's in Tucson !

WOW... thats too bad ! all that time there and you didnt get a chance to enjoy st. marys till the end.
well... at least you are not that far from it.
i have never found any place that good since i discovered it 10 years ago.
yeah.... their tortillas really are AMAZING !!

roadtrip to PIG OUT at St.Mary's in Tucson !

ok... after living in vegas for a while ,my frustration from trying to find OUTSTANDING mexican with hand made tortillas reached its zenith last week.

i did the only thing i knew to do and that was to do a roadtrip to tucson to the BEST cheap hole in the wall mexican food with tender hand made flour tortillas in the southwest.

it took me 8 hours of driving but it was well worth it ! for 3 days i pigged out on their amazing food..... i even took a room at a motel around the corner from them so i could bring it back to my room and have them close by if i wanted more !

all i can say is MY GOD ! if ever there was a reason to move BACK to tucson.... st marys is IT! LOL

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE HERE : get ALL burritos DOUBLE WRAPPED ! it costs a bit more but its worth it for the taste and it keeps the burrito from busting any leaks.

before i left i ordered 5 burritos to go.... and got 3 dozen of those AMAZING tortillas for the freezer.
i have to tell you that the burritos held up VERY well on the trip back and i put them in freezer when i got home.

the best way to eat them after they have been frozen is to let them slowly defrost in the fridge and then take them out and leave them on the counter till they are about room temperature.
then put them (no foil) in the micowave in a covered dish and set the temp on medium or the defrost setting to gently warm them back to life.

i just now finished one and it was FABULOUS! it was a SO good i just cant believe that when they are gone.... that will be IT...till the next road trip. LOL

anyway..... dont forget to get a container of their red sauce too. its fresh and it will be ok if you keep it cool. what i do is pour the sauce into an ice cube tray and freeze it in cubes so i can take out only what i need. this sauce is VERY fragile and wont last long in the fridge.
but frozen into cubes. ... you can defrost it one cube at a time for what you need for that meal.

its hard to believe that here in vegas....there are NO hole in the wall joints with food like st. marys. lots of mexican places but nobody making this wonderful homemade food.
pity.

if you make a road trip to st. marys in the summer months... dont forget your cooler so you can bring back some of their tres leche cake as well. SOOO YUMMY!

ok..... now time to sit back and digest and plan the next trip. LOL
you LUCKY folks that live in tucson ! ENJOY!

Is St Mary's Tortilla Factory Still In Tucson?

its been a while since i have been there but its a hole in the wall. head down st.marys away from town. its on the right hand side of the street. keep your eyes open for a sign. i think it says st marys mexican food. maybe you should find the address and google it. they have a parking lot next to the building.
DO have a breakfast burrito with any choice of fillings you like.
the tortilla is so tender and tasty you may want to buy a pack of them before you leave. i use to keep them in my freezer and heat them in the microwave.
a little butter and honey on the hot tortilla is pure heaven.

i really miss the place. everything i got there was wonderful. enjoy it !!!

Is St Mary's Tortilla Factory Still In Tucson?

i am so glad to hear it ...thank you. that is the one thing i miss about living in tucson. i am hoping i find something close to it here in vegas.
st. mary's makes the best tortillas PERIOD!

i think i feel a road trip comming on LOL

Is St Mary's Tortilla Factory Still In Tucson?

I have been searching the boards here trying to get something on St Marys but i cant seem to find anything. I live in Vegas now and i SO miss the breakfast burritos from st marys that i want to make a special trip just to get some.

there must be something as good here in vegas but i havent had the chance to look yet.
wow those handmade tortillas were UNBELIEVEABLE !

i know there are some tortilla factories around here and maybe some as good as st mary's but i have memories of how good their burritos were.

has anyone been there lately? when i lived in tucson i was there 4 times a week.
i never could get enough of them.

SOOOO GOOD!
