Feedback on New Orleans itinerary

We recently had one night in NO. Thanks to the board we went to Domenica and had a great meal. The clam pizza really is great. We also loved the spaghetti with chanterelles and butter. So simple and delicious. We bought sandwiches from Cochon Butcher and kept them overnight for a drive to Dallas the next day. The muffaletta was excellent, but the Cuban was not memorable - maybe because it was a day old. It just tasted like a lot of meat - no discernible mustard or pickle taste. We still ate the whole thing (at 9 am...since we couldn't wait to dig in and have no willpower to wait)!

Enjoy

Thanks. Her Dad is NOT cool. I'm her mom, and I don't think she or I would ever describe ourselves as cool. We're closer to slightly nerdy. I'll check out the rec anyway, though.

One Dinner in New Orleans

We're going to go to Domenica. It's close by, they are open late and it looks great. Regarding Cochon Butcher, although there seems to be a lot of interesting food along the way to Dallas, we are going to be really pressed for time, and can't imagine stopping more than a few minutes a couple of times, so we'll probably ask the concierge to get us some sandwiches. Thanks for all your help.

I'll check out Domenica and the others. I think Tales of the Cocktail starts right after we leave, so hopefully it doesn't affect us that night. Thank you.

Don't know if even the Ritz would do that, but my bigger question is whether you think the sandwiches would hold up for approx. 20 hours?

NY P8ntball, how did your trip go? We are making the trip from Tallahassee to Dallas in a couple of weeks with an overnight stay in New Orleans. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

One Dinner in New Orleans

My daughter is moving to Dallas from Tallahassee. She's driving there in mid-July. I'm going to fly to New Orleans and drive to Dallas with her the rest of the way. We'll have one dinner. My flight gets in at 7:30 p.m. on a Wed night. We're staying at the Ritz Carlton. So we need a place that serves late, and is not too far from the Ritz or alternatively, is on the way from the airport to the Ritz. We've both been to N.O. before (separately) and have enjoyed meals at Brigsten's, Lillette, Herbsaint, Cochon, Stanley, Commander's Palace and many more. We both LOVE, LOVE Cochon Butcher and are so sorry it only opens at 10 am. It would have been awesome to take sandwiches with us for the road trip the next day, but we need to leave N.O. by 8 am. :( We are open to both traditional New Orleans and more modern New Orleans. Price isn't a concern, but we won't be too dressed up. Thanks in advance for your help!

Back page no longer working

I have it on my PC, but not on my iPad. I have to right click on the back button and select the page I'm trying to get back to. There are usual several "topics" pages before the page I'm trying to get back to. It happens on every single page.

Catch Miami

Has anyone been? My sister and BIL are coming to town and staying at the Ritz South Beach. My sis is celebrating her 65th. They want to go to Catch for the bday dinner, but I'm wary. I suggested River Oyster Bar but they want to stay on the beach. Has anyone eaten at Catch and if so, how was it? Thanks.

Ft. Lauderdale Dining Options?

If you like small plates, S3 is at the Hilton on the beach and is good. Also, on the intracoastal just south of Las Olas, you can sit at the bar and have some good small plates at G&B Oyster. Both should be close to where you're staying.

U of A in Tucson for 1.5 days

Thanks everyone. We are back from our short trip and wanted to report back. The first night we went to Boca at around 9:45. The place was very quiet. We were shocked at how dirty the restaurant was. It was seriously filthy. We had a fried shrimp, grilled shrimp, the meat-stuffed poblano and chicken verde tacos, and one of the mashed potato balls. All were very uninspiring and frankly we were just kind of grossed out the whole time we were there. Friday morning, no time for breakfast and U of A treated us to lunch. Friday night we had a drink in the outside courtyard at Maynard's. They had a trio playing outside and the cocktails and ambiance were both extremely pleasant. We then walked over to Reilly Craft Pizza and had a really good dinner. The sausage and pepper pizza was really delicious, with a nice char on the crust. Brussel sprouts app was very tasty. The comp'd us a delicious butterscotch pudding for my daughter's birthday. Just the perfect amount of sweet and salty. Saturday morning before heading to the airport we stopped at Poco & Mom's for breakfast. Wow! I'm still craving it. We had the Silver City - hash browns topped with cheese, eggs over easy and the hatch green chili sauce with refried beans. It was so delicious and the staff was incredibly friendly. We really loved the place. Thanks to all who helped us. Wish we could have stayed longer!

U of A in Tucson for 1.5 days

I see there's more than one location for El Guero Canelo. Does it matter? Would you recommend this our first night instead of Boca? We will be late - probably around 10 p.m.

We looked at Penca and the menu looked good, but I couldn't find a lot of feedback on the board. I think the front runner right now is Proper but we'll take another look. Thank you.

My daughter and I visited Northwestern a couple of weeks ago for a doctoral program as well. We had lunch at Found and it was excellent.

U of A in Tucson for 1.5 days

My daughter and I are touring U of A in Tucson for 1.5 days at the beginning of April. We will be staying at the Aloft right across from campus. She's been accepted to a doctoral program and she's 25 so while we're looking to get a feeling for places that students would go, we're thinking mature students! We're both huge food lovers so even a 1.5 day trip requires some food research!

We get in late Thurs. night, so I thought Boca on Speedway would be great for a late night dinner. We're not sure of the schedule with the university on Friday yet, but let's assume we have time for a breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Breakfast and lunch should probably be near campus. Dinner doesn't have to be. We would like to eat food that one would not find in South Florida or in any other metropolitan area, so probably not French, Italian, sushi, etc. I looked at Maynard's and the menu wasn't that appealing to me, but the location and the setting are very appealing. Is there something similar or somewhere nearby so we could have drinks at Maynard first?

We don't have to go anywhere fancy - good food and good (youngish) ambiance are what's important. Also, it will be my daughter's 26th birthday that day! I know she'd like to experience a little of what it would be like if she was living in Tucson for the next 4 years. Lastly, we eat anything - no dislikes, no restrictions. Thank you so much in advance.

What's the best steakhouse in Las Vegas in Chowhound's Opinion?

I also had an amazing filet (of all things) at Heritage Steak in January.

One dinner in St. Louis

Just wanted to follow up. We ended up the first night at Mai Lee at the recommendation of my daughter's cousin. It was very mediocre and pretty expensive. I wasn't impressed. For lunch on Saturday we did end up making it to Olio and it was really great. We ordered a selection of dips and tartines and salads, and every single one was delicious and unique. The place is pretty cool also. If I lived in St. Louis, I'd go there a lot! Thanks for the tips.

I didn't mean Olio, but now that I look at it, it looks pretty cool. Is it good? Also, Herbie's looks good - especially the bistro menu. It's going to be difficult to choose. Thanks for your help!

One dinner in St. Louis

Hi all, I'm meeting my daughter in St. Louis (ha ha) late Thurs. night. She has an interview for grad school on Friday morning at Wash U. We will have a dinner on Friday, and a lunch on Saturday before we head back to the airport. We are also meeting her cousin on Friday night for dinner and he is a vegetarian. We are staying at the Ritz Carlton and I will have a car, but I don't want to travel too far from the area, since if she is accepted, she will located around the medical school area and she wants to see it. Options I'm considering based on reading the board are Taste, Elaia, Pastaria and Home Wine Kitchen. I also considered Harvest, but it seems a little too fancy for this particular night. Feedback or other recommendations are welcome and appreciated - both for the dinner and the lunch. Places where grad students might go would be doubly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Need suggestions in Pembroke Pines

I don't like Moon Thai. I've been to Billy's (on SR 84?) many years ago and wasn't impressed. Why not try D'Angelo in Weston? I haven't been to that location, but the one in Fort Lauderdale is pretty good. There's a Korean place in Weston that is pretty good. I think it's called Myung Ga.

in between boca and aventura, cypress creek exit breakfast??

Not many options. Of the 3 you mentioned, Jetway Café is the nicest but I'm not certain it's open on weekends. Why don't you explore Commercial Blvd., east by A1A. More options there by the water, I think.
