Korean BBQ for Birthday Party
I went to Don's. The food was good, but in terms of service and atmosphere I wouldn't have my party there. We sat at the bbq table on the lower level. While the service was polite they were not really good about explaining the menu at all. With a larger group, some of who have not had Korean food before it would be a bad fit. it was dark and loud and we felt a little rushed.
Don't get me wrong, it's is a good, albeit slightly pricey place, and would be perfect for before a game or show. But it just didn't feel fun at all. (This may have been since we were isolated down on the floor in a kind of ugly nook)
So help...would Kang Suh be an awful choice. We stopped in and at least they were friendly and accomodating. I had the food there 5 years ago and it was ok.

ABC Kitchen, Perilla or something else?
I went to Perilla this summer. The food was good...the service was fabulous. I think I loved my dessert but was only so-so on my entree.
Still ,I was sitting alone at the bar and really was made to feel special. I was impressed by the servers knowledge. I plan to try it again.

A few years ago I went to Grammercy Tavern for RW lunch and it was amazing! Service was great, did not feel like a discount meal at all.
Korean BBQ for Birthday Party
Hi...thanks for the rec. I plan to try it next weekend. The stew with the dumplings and kimchee sounds really good right now.
Korean BBQ for Birthday Party
Which of the midtownish Korean BBQ places do you like best for about 8-12 people. Since it is a birthday party a pleasant atmosphere and service factor in as well as food. Also at least beer/wine available.
Thanks!
suggestions needed!Do Hwa and other family style dinners
Every year I have a family style birthday party dinner with a different cuisine. I was planning on doing Indonesian, but was really let down by Bali Hua Nusa. (Food was decent, space shabby, desert awful).
So I am looking for fresh ideas in family style dining...considering Do Hwa. Any other ideas? Greek is another possibility. Last year we had an amazing meal at Brazil Brazil, the year before Sammy's. I had it at a beautiful Ethiopian place one year, but nobody liked the food but me.
I am looking for a place that is fun, and has enthusiasm about the cuisine, about 50$ per person, and not too loud. I pay for everybody and just let them bring out the food.

Only 24 hours in NOLA Tomorrow...what should I eat

Kaui and Big Island help...
Just got back from Hanalei Honeymoon....to be honest the food on Kauai is (compared to Maui) only ok. I actually loved the luau food at the Gaylord's luau.VERY impressed at the quality with that number of people.
We had a nice meal at Bar Acuda, but it it tapas , not a traditional dinner service. We enjoyed roadside Huli chicken in the Kappaa area. We bought yummy fish at dolphin and grilled it with an herb/salt blend from the supermarket, and oil's of aloha Mac oil.
We did a splurge at Tidepools in Hyatt, very very nice service, pretty setting, mixed on the food, the opa is great and the soup.Bubba Burger just ok, in Wimea we heard go to the new jojo's shave ice not the old.
home style southern restaurant featured on cbs sunday morning
I believe it was rural, in a sort of homey looking building, possibly an actual home. If I remember it was pretty out of the way, and a multi generation operation.
Smithhouse looks lovely...but it was a much smaller more humble house.
Thanks for all the good suggestions! They will be great on our trip.
Also looking for Mississippi Delta suggestions!
Waterfront Restaurant/reception venues
we ended up with Pier 23 Cafe...it was a dream...they did a great job and really were budget friendly....we were very happy with the choice.
cupcake/wedding cake/Miette
we did go with three flavors of cupcakes from Miette...the raspberry and gingerbread were a hit, apricot pretty good as well.
Also the customer service was the best...almost as important when you are throwing a wedding.
Havana beach club...Montauk
thanks we did stop by for drinks, I had wonderful ginger beer with a candy ginger garnish.
We did have dinner at Havana the night before.....food was very good to fair, service was so-so, but horrible loud loud karyoke.
home style southern restaurant featured on cbs sunday morning
several years ago a home-style restaurant was featured on CBS sunday morning(I think)
If I remember correctly it was in georgia, and in a home or converted home.
Does anyone remember anything like it?
Havana beach club...Montauk
Anybody been? What time does it get loud?
We are having a big clambake/bbq wedding on Saturday, so I am looking for something with a different flavor for Friday night.
cupcake/wedding cake/Miette
My partner tells me to stop obsessing.... by dessert everyone will be so drunk they won't notice! HA!
I am thinking of serving ice cream on the side..perhaps that will compliment the texture. With all this cake talk I am sort of sad my leftovers are three thousand miles away.
cupcake/wedding cake/Miette
I am a little worried after that comment...we got the cakes at 9:30 am...so they were pretty moist...the choc is dense. I hope they don't dry out too fast.
But the Miette frosting is so yummy.
Kara's passion fruit was tasty as well.
cupcake/wedding cake/Miette
10:30 am, and I have already tasted cupcakes from two bakeries. I could almost fly home on this sugar high.
Miette, light, delicate, well crafted, dainty, some frostings were amazing, some a little bland. VERY NICE people, went out of their way to get us cupcakes to taste on a preposterous schedule. Every cup looked perfect.
Kara's...overall a richer taste, cake batter amazing, some of the frosting bland, very very sweet,
fillings good, fleur de sel AMAZING, presentation a bit sloppier, customer service not so nice.
On the other hand since this was my second stop, I appeared to be a frosting-smeared cup cake fiend, and probably frightened them.
Thanks for all the help SF'ers!
Peace out!

cupcake/wedding cake/Miette
I would love some tip's on cupcake/wedding cake providers. I am tasting at Miette in the ferry building tomorrow, I know there are some other good cake places in town.
Thanks for all the help!

Waterfront Restaurant/reception venues
Thanks for all of the advice! Epic and Waterbar are both very nicely decorated. Epic actually has a better party space, but does not have a event menu yet. Staff at Waterbar seemed more on top of things. The upstairs bar in Epic is especially charming.
It's a learning curve...the whole large group dining scene is a whole different animal.
Waterfront has slipped way down the list. They do have the best layout in town for a party I have seen, but the salesperson pushed me away from booking there.

Waterfront Restaurant/reception venues
Thanks for the advice...I just had a fairly perplexing conversation with Waterfront...so I am going to take a look at Waterbar. I loved the McCormick room with the terrace, my partner did not.

Waterfront Restaurant/reception venues
I have been in SF the past few days looking at wedding reception venues. One possibility is the Waterfront restaurant, the layout is ideal. Has anyone eaten there? We are looking at a 40-60 plus music, so the real competition is catering venues, but I feel like the food would better at a restaurant. McCormic is another possibility,as is Il Fornaio.
Any other non-hotel spots I should be looking at? Especially NB/Fisherman's Wharf/Tel-Hi
PS what is the deal with Julius Castle?
Thank you for your help!

Russian Hill...large group
I know most of the Russian Hill/Hyde street restaurants are small...but it there anyplace that could handle a large group 35-45 and a maybe a musician or two. Basically looking for a fun, yummy place with personality to celebrate.
