Any new cheap eats discoveries around DC?
I love searching for and trying new cheap eats in and around DC. I guess "new" is relative, but I'd still like to know if anyone has a favorite cheap eat in the area and why it's a favorite. Close to a metro is ideal, but if it's super good I'm willing to get a zip car!
Chow in Raleigh, NC for one night, looking for a great restaurant.
Does anyone have any suggestions of a must try place in Raleigh? Not over the top, price wise, but good food.
Week day lunch in Old Town?
Any suggestions? Just a non-formal lunch with friends. Doesn't have to be fancy, but would love to try something new.
Montrealers in DC
My husband and I go to Montreal a lot and fall in love with it every time we go. You definitely have better Vietnamese than our DC, VA or MD options so stick to DC specific things.
Your itinerary looks great. Church Key will be a bit crowded, but not too bad on a late Thursday night. The happy hour crowd would have gone home by then. It's worth going b/c it's just the two of you and you'll be able to find room to stand at the very least.
Definitely try to do brunch at Tabard Inn OR you can try some DC home cooking at Oohh's and Aahh's on U Street or Saint's Paradise Cafeteria for a true DC church breakfast experience. Another brunch option is Cork on 14th Street on Sunday. They're a little local restaurant that has great wine. Kind of like our Joe Beef, but with wine.
The wait at 2 Amy's won't be bad, even when it's at it's worse, it's still not terrible. Definitely worth checking out. Their pizza is great, but I love their small plates too.
I have no idea about Aqua, but I agree holdtheline, Bibiana would be a great pick. You may also want to try Posto, for a more local vibe. They're on 14th Street and have great pasta dishes (veggie included). Fiola is hot right now and they deserve it...their food is delicious. I also agree with the Rasika idea. Yum! I'd scrap Zatinya. The crowd is more "embassy brat" these days. But, if you're into the thing, go for it. It may be worth just a drink or two. It will be crowded on a Saturday night. Proof is next door and has great wine and cocktails. Also, if you want to try an amazing cocktail in kind of a DC hipster scene, try the Passanger on 7th (close enough to Zaytinya).
Holdtheline mentioned Ethiopian and I definitely think it's worth a try in DC. We have great Ethiopian. Ethiopic on H Street, NE is excellent.
So, if I would rework your list like this...
Dinner Picks:
1st night - Church Key
2nd night - Fiola (or Posto for something more neighborhoody) drinks afterward at Passanger
3rd night - Get into the neighborhoods and do Eola, Cork for dinner or go downtown to Rasika, drinks afterward at American Ice Company, Proof or PS 7's. (depending where you are)
Sat Afternoon: 2 Amy's
Sun Brunch: Cork, Tabbard Inn or Oohhs and Aahhs.
The chows have always been nice to us on our trips to Montreal, so I hope this helps!
Restaurants near E St. Cinema
Sorry for the late reply, but for the future, you should try Elisir. It's practically next door and they're delicious. Often overlooked, but definitely worth trying. Central is right down the block as well. Cedar is down the street a bit, and a few blocks away is Bibiana.
What is your single worst meal ever in the DC/Baltimore area?
I had an awful brunch at Kramers and Afterwards (I know people are going to kill me, but it's true...) and I haven't been back since. I go to the bookstore all the time! It's my local bookstore of choice, but I steer clear of the food. Sorry :-(
Good butcher in or around Washington, DC?
These are all great recommendations. Thank you so much! I'm going to call first and see what they've got. I live in DC and rely on pub trans so I need to test the waters before I make a commitment (zip car) ;-) I forgot about Eastern Market. I've been there a thousand times, but more for the "flea" markets on Sunday than for the butcher. That's an easy trip so I'll def check them out. I'll keep you all posted. Thanks again!
Good butcher in or around Washington, DC?
I've lived in DC for a long time and I still haven't found a decent butcher. Whole Foods is my fallback, but they're really not that great. Does anyone have recommendations for a good butcher in Washington, DC or the suburbs? Somewhere I can get cuts of meat beyond the average? Somewhere I can get pork belly or secreto?
Best restaurant in Columbus, Ohio - regardless of price?
I'd like to buy a good friend of mine, and her husband, a gift certificate to a great restaurant in Columbus, OH or the surrounding area. Hopefully something romantic. This is a "thank you" gift. They never get to go out much b/c they have two kids. I don't care about the price. It's worth it!
I'm also open to doing a bed and breakfast that has a great restaurant.
Any suggestions?

Any suggestions?
Looking for a place that has great wine pairings in DC.
A couple of us are going out tonight and we're just starting to learn more about wine and wine pairing. Anyone have a good suggestion of a place that has great wine pairings in the DC area? We're willing to venture outside of the city, but has to be metro accessible.
Thank you!
One dinner in DC
I completely agree w/ argarnett100 and others, the food at Jaleo has gone down hill. I was there recently, and how the mushrooms you're referring to, ktmoomau, and didn't find them to be "WOW' at all. They were billed as fresh mushrooms form the farmers market, and I found them all to be the same size, little crimini mushrooms. Nothing "farmers market" about them at all. And the funny thing is that I was there the same day as the farmers market at 8th and D. They didn't look anything like the mushrooms i saw that farmers market. Plus, the taste was so-so. The shrimp we ordered was way too salty. So salty that I sent them back.
I second the suggestion for Rasika. I would also suggest seeing a show at the Woolley Mammoth afterwards.
Or, I would suggest Vidalia. They have delicious southern inspired food. This would give you a taste of DC's southern style.

Rehearsal dinner in Cleveland for 70 people?
Hello fellow chowhounders. I'm looking for a place in Cleveland to host my rehearsal dinner in September. We'd love to have it at the Great Lakes Brewery, but they don't do large parties on the weekends. We'd love to keep it downtownish. We're not fussy, but we do enjoy good food and beer/wine/cocktails. Most important part for us is that it's laid back and fun. We also really like the Tremont neighborhood. Thanks for your help!
New Restaurants in Montreal?
Wow! These are all great suggestions. Thank you so much.
New Restaurants in Montreal?
I'm headed to Montreal at the end of the month. I've been a bunch of times and have been to all the usual best places. Anyone have any suggestions for new restaurants? Anything new and amazing?
Recommendations around Smith Mountain Lake State Park? Roanoke? Blue Ridge, VA?
We're spending the long weekend at a cabin in the Smith Mountain Lake State Park and I'm looking for recommendations for some restaurants, markets, general fun things to do in the area. We're looking for some low key places for bfast and lunch and one nice place for dinner. We've never been to the area, so this is our first trip. Also, I'm wondering if Blue Ridge, VA is worth a stop.
Thanks!!

Vegetarian pho recipes?

Best place to get African food in Lisbon?
Going to be in Lisbon on Thurs, Fri and Sat. Where can I get the best African food? Any good neighborhoods with the most African eateries?
Any good dinner options on H St NE?
I feel like H St NE is buzzing, but not for food. I've been to Granville Moores. Any other suggestions?
What are your favorite things to do in Wilmington, DE?
I'm headed to Wil, DE this weekend to enjoy some fall foliage and need a quick getaway from DC. Anyone have dinner suggestions? Breakfast suggestions? Great places to stay? Great shopping suggestions? Fun things to do?
For dinner, we're looking for something nice, good food, good wine, etc? We like farm-to-table places, local chets. We're also looking for some great lunch locations.
We're also looking for some great shopping recommendations. Any good vintage stores?
Thanks all!
J & G Steakhouse - total disappointment
Last weekend we ate at J & G expecting good food and wow what a let
down. The atmosphere was nice and we had a great table with great service, but the food
compared to the price, was a serious problem. We paid $5 more for a
steak at J & G than we paid at the Source and the difference in quality and preparation was remarkable.
At $50 or so for the steak entree, we expected an exceptional dish, but the steak was underdone and not of exceptional quality. The house sauce had a bottled quality. Compared to the steak at the Source, which was amazing in all respects, J & G was not worth the money. The lobster was ok but the basil butter, that took on the same color as
lobster guts was somewhat unappealing. The corn salad thing was
clumsily sprinkled onto the lobster, making it necessary to pick it
out of the way to get to the meat. I would give a review of my
appetizers, but I can't even remember what we had!
I think what's most disappointing is that the Washingtonian Magazine
actually rated this place 4th on their 100 best restaurants list. I
guess I'm not that surprised, the Washingtonian can be seriously wrong
when it comes to restaurant reviews. But seriously? 4th? Not by a
long shot.
Overall, it was a lackluster experience. In this price category, I'd suggest another restaurant.
Looking for Dupont Circle recommendation
I'm going to Eola tonight for dinner. Any suggestions? Other Dupont restaurant ideas include Veritas Wine Bar (small plates, great wine), Mourayo (Greek) and Pesce (may not meet your wine needs). Not sure why others are talking about Cleveland Park, but if you're willing to go outside of the Dupont area, a closer option may be Posto and Cork (both on 14th). I don't own a car, so I admittedly don't know about parking. I know Posto has valet.

If that's the case, Busboys and Poets has great wifi and not that busy on weekdays.
Thanksgiving Dinner for Two Under $100 in DC
