oysters in vancouver

Although they don't have deals, I always go to Rodney's Oyster Bar for my oyster fix.
Joe Fortes also has some good oysters.
And I think I recently read on here that Monk McQueens has oyster deals.

Indian in Vancouver

Some good lunch specials ..

- New Novelty Restaurant and Sweets (Fraser St.)
- Al Watan Tandoori (Indian / Pakistani - Fraser St.)
- Mirchi Restaurant (Granville St.)

These are small, family run restaurants. Lunch specials are under $10.

Cocktails and good eats in Vancouver

Wow .. Florentine gave you a great list !!
My two cents:
Dont miss L'Abbitoir as stated
My fav's:
Although a bit loud I personally really like the drinks at Keefer Bar,
West, (sit at the bar and have the bartender make something up for you)
Diamond for the atmosphere and the drinks are great too.
I havent been but The lounge at Rosewood Hotel Georgia seems to be the hot spot right now.

Have fun !!!

Suggestion for Restaurants around Waterfront Station/Vancouver Convention Center

If you make it across to Lonsdale Quay - A new restaurant has just opened with a spectacular view. I can't comment on the food as I have only walked by during construction. I actually thought the opening was in a couple days, but sounds like the might be open now.

Best Persian Lamb?

While not Persian .. Tibisti Foods and Grill on Vic Drive do pretty good grilled meat. Nothing fancy here but the halal meat from the in house butcher is fresh and cooked quite well. Nice and tender. Mohammed and the other staff are very friendly. Very reasonable prices ...

Anniversary dinner

Thx Grayelf.
I was able to get a nice table in the Atrium as per your advice. My parents mentioned how much they enjoyed the atmosphere ... the noise level was perfect !
The service was flawless, great drinks ... and food outstanding. Unfortunately we didn't have the steelhead salad, but each of our mains were very tasty and beautifully presented. Our favourite was the halibut, next up the scallops, and the least was the steak Diane. It was actually quite labour intensive to chew through some parts.
They must have noted that it was my parents anniversary upon my reservation, as they noticed our long decision over a few desserts and brought both runners up with a candle and said happy anniversary. Really nice touch.
What a great experience in all. Couldn't have asked for a better evening for their anniversary .. !!

Anniversary dinner

After reading great reviews, I made a reservation at L'Abbitoir for this Friday for my parents anniversary. My parents are in their 60's and appreciate good food, although not exactly into the fussy, super high end category. L'Abbitoir seems to fit the bill, but looking for personal insight here.
(My parents love La Quercia, but my wife and I would like to take them somewhere different).

There will be 4 of us. No particular style of food, just looking for somewhere that will help to make it a memorable experience in the Vancouver area. ( not to sound cheap, but within a moderate price range is essential for us this year!)

Any insight on my original decision ? Or other suggestions ?

Asian Bender this Weekend in YVR and Richmond

Re; cocktail ?
I would suggest West for very good cocktails. Its a couple blocks from Vij's so you can always put your name on the 5;30 list and head to West for a drink or two. While not the same ambience as Spur ... IMO it has the best bar program in Van.
Bao Bei Chinese Brasserie has some interesting drinks as does the Keefer Bar. (both on the same block in Chinatown)

Sushi party trays in Vancouver

I would second Tokiwa sushi (Oak st. and 21st)
I've ordered trays from there before and was pleased with the quality.

Friday afternoon drinks on a patio - Vancouver

A few others -
Right by Monk's is The Wicklow Pub - great patio!
Lift in Coal Harbour
The Reef on Main st. gets some good sun and people watching
The Galley Patio and Grill at Jericho - beach front patio

Or being dicreet - plastic cups and your choice of beverage at any beach

korean in North Van?

I recently moved to the north shore and have noticed quite a few Korean restaurants in the neighborhood. Does anyone have any good/bad experiences with the Korean restaurants here?

We're Back! (And looking for Thai and Mexican in Vancouver/Richmond area)

No I haven't had the set dinner... Will look into that!
I love their Beef Larb, .. and their Morning Glory stems are awesome - which btw are not on the menu. If they have it in stock, or call ahead, they will make it for you!
Vegetables and herbs are grown in the chef's garden.
If you want real Thai spice, you can get it here. If unsure order medium !

Ten out of Ten

While not exactly a fan of chain restaurants... I had a fairly decent experience at CC yaletown not long ago. We were still hungry after Rodney's Oyster Bar, so ducked into CC for a quick snack and pint. The appy's we had were actually pretty good, the price was right, and service was quick as we didnt want to spend too much time there. (Much better than other chains (Earls etc.).
I probably won't be going there for a special meal, or maybe anytime soon, ..but there is a time and place for eating at such restaurants and I'd pick CC again.

We're Back! (And looking for Thai and Mexican in Vancouver/Richmond area)

I've found the food at Lanna Thai (Denman St) to be pretty good and somewhat authentic.
Run by a lady from Chang Mai.

North Vancouver -- green grocer/vegetable store

I second the Nanaimo/Hastings area. I live on the north shore and I do most of my shopping there. Donald's is great - I've always found the produce to be of good quality.
Palonia sausage house, Moccia Italian meat market, Ugo & Joes all in the area also.
Its only a 10 min drive from the north shore.

Dine out.... Good, bad or indifferent?

Had a terrible experience at the Boathouse Horseshoe Bay last night (not my choice, but I accepted the ivitation from a few friends).
Service from the start was dreadful. No water, no menus . when we finally got the menus the server could not explain why one of the dine-out options was actually $10 more than the original menu. (we figured out the appetizer options where a bit different ).
We all opted for the $28 menu - all served at different times, They forgot 3 of our appetizers, my steak was overcooked and chewy, the lobster was non-existent on a few of our dishes.
In all the experience was 4 HOURS !!
There are of course much better restaurants to choose from on Dine-Out.
But I will not be returning to The BoatHouse again !

One fun night in Seattle

hi there,
Looking for rec's for our next weekend's one night stay in Seattle. There will be 4 of us (2 couples)all in our early 30's - staying 2 blocks from pike market. We will have a car, but walking distance would be prefered.
Being from Vancouver we have our share of Asian/ethnic restaurants. Looking for a few decent restaurants/pub/gastro-pub's. Something somewhat casual and fun. Good food and drinks within a fairly reasonable price range !!
A few places I've tried: the black bottle, Spur.
So something along those lines, but really any advice on places that showcase Seattle's food scene and help in making it a fun night is greatly appreciated.
Also .. I was thinking Lowell's for breakfast..,?
Thanks !!

Vancouver resturants/shopping for teenager?

Downtown Granville st. seems to fit th bill for your son. Doesnt take long to walk the length of it ..
plenty of music/ t-shirt shops (rock shop etc), and restaurants. I don't get down there much except for the occasional concert, so I can't recommend any particular restaurant, but there are plenty to chose from that Im sure your son will like.

Men's Night Suggestions - Downtown

You could pub hop around Gastown.
Pourhouse, The Diamond, Revel Room to name a few ..

Dinner in comox / courtney ?

Hi there,
My wife and I will be taking her parents out to dinner for their anniversary on the long weekend. We are from Vancouver ( I being a foodie) so am not too familiar with restaurants in the Comox / Courtney area. The in laws a from there, but don't dine out very much at all. Does anyone have any rec's for a special dinner out in this area? No specific style of food, as long as its good food and a nice atmosphere. (maybe a farm to table type place??)
We have tried the Atlas cafe so maybe something different.
thanks :)

very special dinner ??

Thank you for the suggestions. I will be calling ahead to wherever I decide.. Which i'm still somewhat unclear about! ... I'm hearing mixed reviews of west.

very special dinner ??

Hi there .. I will be proposing to my girlfriend in the next 2 - 4 weeks. I am looking for restaurant rec's to help make this a very special evening. Without sounding like I'm cheaping out .. it doesnt necessarily have to be the most expensive place. The cost of everything is certainly adding up. That being said however .. money is not exactly a huge issue either. Style of food isnt either. What Im looking for is obviously a romantic setting, with excellent food. I was thinking along the lines of West? Bishops has been done by my sister so thats out!! Any idea ??
Thanks for any help !!!

A nice "home cookin" type restaurant in Vancouver with party room?

While not a fan of this place, I know the Shebeen Whisky house rents out to groups.

Dinner date in N.Van for tmrw ???

... Looks great. As far as dollar limit .. I looked at menu prices and that's probably the most I'd like to spend.
Thanks !

Dinner date in N.Van for tmrw ???

Short notice here ..
Looking for recs for a casual and moderately priced restaurant in north Vancouver for tomorrow night? It's for nothing really too special ... Just a nice evening with some good food and some time with my girlfriend in a casual environment. It's a bit of a broad question I realize .. I'm open to any style of food. We both love all food. Unfortunately I can't quite splurge as much as I'd like this time around as we are both on a budget! If anyone has any stand-out personal favourites, (food being more importance than the drinks or scene) it would be much appreciated. I'm a bit unfamiliar with that side of town. Will travel as long as it's on the north shore
thanks for any help.

Casual restaurant to take parents-Vancouver

While the food is not spectacular .. Stellas on Cambie may be an option.. offers fairly decent entrees / tapas for under $20. Great beer selection / casual fun atmosphere.
