Dinner with teenagers in Central Square

Area Four for pizza. Life Alive is always a nice change of pace for me, might work if they are interested in healthier fare.

Sky on Rt. 1 or Olivadi's in Norwood center would work.

Check out Stir, Barbara Lynch's demonstration kitchen. I haven't been but the classes look terrific.

Chowhound "bum steers"

I second the bum steer of Erbaluce. We had a dreadful dinner there last year. Pasta and meats not cooked properly, bizarre flavors that did not work at all, and awful service. I was really disappointed after reading such good reviews.

Upscale Brunch Options

Ditto - Craigie on Main. And make sure to tell them to order a donut!

Favorite Non-Alcoholic Beverages.

Hungry Mother in Cambridge has some great mocktails. I was thrilled to go there when I was pregnant and order something other than water.

Best place for Lebanese food?

If you want to venture outside of Boston to the suburbs, Byblos in Norwood has excellent Lebanese food.

Romantic Wedding Venue with Outstanding Food?

Another recommendation for the Boston Harbor Hotel. Our wedding food was absolutely superb. Chef Bruce and his team did an amazing job. Like Newyorker1, we still get compliments four years later.

Spring 2009 Openings and Closings

Has anyone heard anything about The Chicken Bone in Boston? It supposedly closed for the winter. I'm interested in finding out if they have re-opened or plan to re-open.

Recommendations for Persephone (dinner)?

If they have the steak for two (and your dining partner is willing), I highly recommend it. My husband and I always share it and find the meat is expertly prepared and the sides (fries and creamed spinach) are terrific.

Lebanese?

Byblos in Norwood has terrific Middle Eastern food. If you have a way to get there, I highly recommend giving it a try.

wings, salad & beer near Kendall Square ??

Cambridge Brew Co. The beers are excellent and the food is good enough, though not great. It's located in the plaza right across from the movie theater.

That would be the D&G Deli. It's on Nahatan Street, very close to Norwood Center.

What's In-between L'esplaier and Clio?

I'd check out Meritage at the Boston Harbor Hotel. After dark it's a romantic setting, the food is terrific, and there's a full bar.

Upscale downtown restaurants w/ small private rooms?

My husband has had several successful business dinners in a private room at Flemings. I think their minimum price is on the lower side, which is good when you have a smaller party.

Seeking small wine or beer tasting (w/ tour?)

Nashoba Valley Winery does group tours but for a fee. I've heard good things about the restaurant there too, but have yet to go.

Searching for a culinary twin

Rendezvous in Central Square, Cambridge. This is a favorite spot for me, and I think you'd find the menu similar to the restaurant in Ottawa . Service is always friendly and efficient, the chef/owner is usually in the dining room checking on folks, and the menu is created to make the most of fresh ingredients.

L'Espalier Lunch Questions

I had lunch yesterday at L'Espalier. Two of us had the Prix Fixe, which was excellent and a good amount of food for lunch. I'd recommend the radish soup and the beef tenderloin. My husband had the Degustation menu and loved the white asparagus, scallop, and beef. If you do the prix fixe, I'd recommend adding a cheese course before dessert. Their cheeses are worth it!

People were very dressed up, so I would recommend going with a jacket, although you'd be okay without it. We ate on the 2nd floor in the back room because there was a private party going on in the front room. It was alright. Service is excellent. Our waiter helped us pick out a delicious wine that went well with our entrees. And they remembered to congratulate my friend which was a nice touch. I had told them when I called that we were celebrating her finishing her PhD.

White Asparagus

I had lunch yesterday at L'Espalier with my husband and there was a white asparagus dish that was part of the Spring Degustation menu. My husband had it, and I stole a bite, and can report the dish was excellent. I believe the waiter told us it was poached in milk or cream flavored with vanilla bean. It was served with some crispy prosciutto.

steak ta tare

De-lurking to throw in my 2 cents. I LOVE steak tartare and frequently order it if it's on the menu. Like the previous poster said, KO Prime has a terrific one. And the entree-size portion at Brasserie Jo is great. I've also had delicious tartare at the Oak Room. It was very traditional - served with egg, relish, onion, etc - and was superb!
