Quiet Bar-not too smokey

Looking for a good quiet neighborhood bar that doesn't leave you smelling like an ashtray, somewhere Uptown, Garden District, Irish Channel, Riverbend, etc. No live music or loud tvs, etc. Just a good place to have a regular drink and hang out.

Celebration dinner in Anchorage

I am going to Anchorage where my son is working this summer, to celebrate his 21st birthday on Wednesday the 21st! I need suggestions please for the best place to have the best food, ideally some great halibut. Expense not an issue for this. Would be nice to have really good wine or beer...but the food and service are what matter. Thanks!

Late night eating after the ballet

Your right about N not S Rampart. And I am happy to see so many replies...It seems as if there are not too many choices out there. But these are some good ideas. Thanks

Late night eating after the ballet

Suggestions please on where to eat after seeing a great dance performance at the Mahalia Jackson theater on S. Rampart--nearby, but not in the French Quarter, perhaps on Esplanade? or near City Park? It's such a bummer to leave a great event and not have a good place for a late night light supper and glass of wine. Help me please!

Quick good dinner snack in French Quarter?

Ideas for a tasty pre-theater, nice-but-not fussy dinner and glass of wine before we go to a show at Southern Rep? We would rather not have to park twice, so someplace in walking distance of Canal Place is what I am looking for. Tapas or other small plates would be ideal.

2 nights in January--where to eat?

Heading for San Francisco to spend a couple of days. Would like suggestions for two best dinners--we eat everything and price is not a problem--and perhaps one or two good easy lunch spots.

New Year's Eve for the Family

Just back to NOLA after many years away. Helping plan New Year's eve for about 12 of us (all adults). Would like good food, wine, fun, lively environment at a moderate price point. Welcome all ideas.

Grappa in Minnesota?

YAY! Finally figured out how to find them on the Haskell's site. Not exactly the ones I was hoping for--they have only Gaja and no Jacopo Poli or some of the others. But these will do just fine. I have already placed the order. And I am going to call Buon Giorno (no website) to see what they have for next time. Thanks Everyone!

Grappa in Minnesota?

Thanks! I will check out Buon Giorno's. Surdyk's seems to have only domestic grappa online, but I will call them and see if they have anything else.

Grappa in Minnesota?

Help! I want to send some good Italian grappa to two friends. But I live in California and found out I cannot order it and have it shipped to Minnesota. Can anyone tell me where I can buy Italian Grappa in Minnesota so I can have it delivered to my friends?

Celebrate with 18 year old guys

I forgot to tell you...his dad took him to Providence for his celebration. We all think Providence is absolutely the best. We love it. But I want to do something different.

Celebrate with 18 year old guys

I had forgotten about Saddle Peak Lounge, but that is a great idea. Just need to see if they want to go out that far.

I like the CUT suggestion and might go with that.

Celebrate with 18 year old guys

Thanks for the idea. You are right about the meat but they've done Fogo de Chao many a time. My son's dad took him to Providence to celebrate, so I am looking for something along those lines.

Celebrate with 18 year old guys

I am a single mom taking my son and his best friend (another guy) to celebrate high school graduation with a superlative meal. These young men really, really love to eat great food and they have pretty sophisticated and well-educated palates. Price is not really an issue and since these two can't drink (at least not legally) the wine list is not too important, although I certainly hope to be able to drink something really decent by the glass or half-bottle. Would be good to also have a place that is not too hush-hush because we all like to talk it up. So, suggestions please for a place that is fun with amazing, celebratory food that is not to precious and not strictly Asian and has, I hope, some substantial meat offerings. Oh, and nothing west of Beverly Hills, since we start off in Silver Lake.
