Does anyone know what is going on with Cheong Wong? I loved some of their noodle dishes. There is a sign at the door saying they are remodeling - nothing seems to be happening. They seemed to do an OK business. I would love to have them come back!

Looking for Grand Junction CO Birthday meal for mom
Mom doesn't drink and isn't terribly adventurous. But she loves to eat out. I wondered if there was a place with a view, a historic place or just good eats.
My husband is visiting mom in February and would like to have some celebrations. She will eat asian, loves Mexican, loves Italian, and is from the Mid West originally.
Can travel - Montrose, Rifle, Fruita are places I know, but I'm sure there are other places that might work.

WaBa Chantilly
Waba seems to be a California based teriyaki place. I had the chicken/steak plate served with rice, a sliced orange and salad. You can add hot sauce, more teriyaki sauce and a mix of pickled carrots and jalepenos.
This is in the same shopping center with Costco and CiCi Pizza.
I thought the price was great and the quality really good. I will be back soon!
Korean fried chicken in NoVa?
There is also Cheogajip Chicken in Old Centreville Crossing Shopping Center. It is different than BonChon. The spicy is very sticky and is quite spicy - sounds like what you are talking about. I wasn't crazy about the "sweet" one - but only had it once and can't remember why I didn't like it.

I think Golden China went through a change in ownership a few years ago - they seemed to have changed. I wonder if the Hibachi Grill and Buffet is helping Golden China improve to compete.

This has been a sort of ordinary Chinese buffet/Mongolian grill.
Recently, I have seen groups of Asians going in at lunch, which surprised me. Seemed more Chinese American. Today, I drove by and saw several signs (handwritten) on the windows - all in Chinese. Makes me wonder if there is some new good food to be had. Anyone know anything?.
Authentic Greek Gyro in Maryland/DC/NOVA?
I agree. The gyro is great - and so are all the other dishes. We do a lot of take out from them and I have yet to find anything less than great.

South Mountain Creamery
The heavy cream is not ultra-pasteurized - I don't think they do that to any product. Their cream is really decadent - but will spoil. I indulge in it over the holidays. Last year, I made the old "refrigerator cake" with it and it was the best desert I'd had in a long time!
I love all their dairy products.

I have been getting delivery in Fairfax County for quite some time. I started with just half and half (I love its freshness). But expanded to cider - really good. And their cheeses (not made at South Mountain - but excellent). Yogurt, bacon (oh the bacon!) and many of the meats. I pretty much worked through their catalog. Heavy cream is an amazingly decadent holiday treat!
I got their turkey last year for Thanksgiving. Much better than supermarket!
If you are a buttermilk fan, be careful. You can not go back to the supermarket variety. To me, the buttermilk is their most amazing item.
Service is wonderful!

I always loved the macoun apples when I lived in Durham CT. Now that I have moved, I dream of them!
I am glad to know that Lyman's still exists and am thinking of making a quick trip there to get a bunch of apples for the winter.
New Chinese place in Fairfax/Chantilly
Been there again - for take out. I had the Superior Baby Cabbage soup (with country ham, black mushrooms and a few bits of 1000 year old eggs) - wonderful. I got the pork and napa dumplings, but barely tasted them - my husband let me have a taste (I am a soup girl and he is a dumpling boy!). I also got the rice noodles. I think they were not as much in their cuisine - but they were flavorful and great. I think I will not focus on the noodles here, though - they seem more a nod to Americans.
The staff continued to be delightful and welcoming.

I just got back from lunch. The menu is slightly smaller than the on-line menu. I ordered the cumin lamb lunch special - but they didn't have lamb today. So I got the beef. It was lovely - spicy with two different kinds of peppers, Chinese celery, the meat was charred from the wok and the cumin flavor was great. Spicy, but not hot.
On the side of the room is a glass booth with a woman making dumplings to order. You have a choice of pork with napa, chicken with celery, beef with napa or pork with chives. Steamed or fried. Everything I saw looked wonderful - I wish I had been with a group so I could have tried more.
I think this place will be a real winner - it was doing a very good business today at lunch!

They are good with call ahead. Since it is cooked to order - it takes a while But it is yummy.

I love the soon du bu at Vit Goel too. I eat it at the Centreville location as well. Both locations are friendly and the food is so good - and so well priced. I am working my way through all the soon do bu choices - love them all!
Sterling VA - May Saigon
I stopped in today and got a take out menu. Some of the dishes had the same fanciful English names as Present restaurant. One is Silken Shawl Imperial Autumn Rolls. The other is Seashore at Sunset. I hadn't seen these names before Present. Maybe they are common terms, but it made me wonder if there was a relationship.
The menu looks interesting and the staff was very friendly. I will try them on my next day off, next week. But I'd love to hear if anyone else has been there.
