PRIME RIB
No not a joke, it's hong kong style cafeteria restaurant and has select western dishes. It's not the greatest but good for the price and value IMHO.
PRIME RIB
ok, don't laugh now, but Tasty Garden in Monterey Park. Thick cut of medium rare rib roast for only 16.95. comes w/ 2 sides and spaghetti. lol.
Vietnamese Pancakes (Banh Xeo) & Fried Bread for Pho
In general, little saigon restaurants are sub specialized-- they are known for one or two dishes. Very few restaurants make many dishes well. If u go to banh cuon restaurant, order the banh cuon and not banh Xeo. Brodard is known for nem nuong and makes a subpar banh Xeo.
As for your question of how to eat banh cuon, theres two main types, one with filling and ones without. When given plate of banh cuon with fillings, w just add all the veggies and pour on the nuoc Cham. You can read more on our blog about banh cuon http://www.theravenouscouple.com/2010/01/banh-cuon-vietnamese-steam-rice-rolls.html
Vietnamese Pancakes (Banh Xeo) & Fried Bread for Pho
the best banh xeo in Little Saigon is no longer Vans Restaurant, but newcomer Thanh Ha on corner of magnolia and bolsa.
Dat Thanh – Revelatory Nem Nuong (Vietnamese Grilled Pork Patty Spring Rolls) and Great Com Tam (Broken Rice) in Little Saigon

Little Saigon - Asian Garden Mall: Outdoor Night Market
more like the latter...there's a few food booths, but nothing out of the ordinary: pandan waffles, corn on the cob were two that i recalled

Gold Standard 2011: What say you?
had to chuckle seeing Susan Feninger use the iron to heat up the banh xeo, will have to give her creativity points for sure. Agree with many that Bistro LQ's hare and duck neck terrine and Providence's scallop tartar on nastertium leaf were two of the best.
More photos after the jump http://ravenouscouple.blogspot.com/2011/03/gold-standard-2011-la-weekly.html

Is Kiyokawa better than Sushi Zo?
we just tried kiyokawa for the first time a few weeks ago..a great experience and such a gracious chef--he even opened the door for us on the way out!! with limited ETOH and the chefs omakase and sushi omakasi, tax and tip came slightly less then 100pp. The kaiseki meal more then met expectations, having read what J. Gold wrote about it in 2009. for those interested, full photos here:

Where to eat near Kaiser-Permanente on Sunset & Vermont
hospital is a year old and the hospital cafeteria was just finished and open last month...huge glass windows, out door patio, brick oven....made to order grill..so don't discount that for basic items such as bacon and eggs.
Where to eat near Kaiser-Permanente on Sunset & Vermont
work in the area and this is where I walk to for eats...Square One for breakfast or lunch. Yai's on Vermont for Thai, up the street from Yai's is Nikko's for sushi, Pho Hollywood for Vietnamese, and Umami burger. I would agree w recommendations to take the redline to downtown for steaks.

Lazy Ox Canteen: Return of Josef Centeno [Review w/ Pix]
actually, there's no good signage yet... but yes, it's at the Sakura Crossing.
Lazy Ox Canteen: Return of Josef Centeno [Review w/ Pix]
funny that you would catch that cream of wheat in the peleron dish...we thought it did seem a bit out of place...visually...when things were mixed up..it looked like curds gone bad with that red wine sauce..not very visually appealing. the taste itself wasn't that bad with the kumquats and red wine so therefore we didn't knock it....but certainly not a highlight of that dish.
