Who has the best cha gio (Vietnamese fried spring rolls) ?

It is!

Who has the best cha gio (Vietnamese fried spring rolls) ?

Bao Chau is still the best value. Probably not the best spring roll but they're pretty good and no one gives you more spring roll for your money.

Looking for Good Szechuan restaurant Vancouver area

I wonder how accurate that is? I used to order a dish in New York, which was available at all the szechuan/hunan places in NY and it was usually called "dry beef" or something like that. It was very similiar to what we call ginger beef(when it is done well).

great half sour pickles? Schorr's?

Man I miss the pickles in New York. Even the crappiest deli there had delicious pickles. You can order Guss' Pickles online here http://www.gusspickle.com/ or The Pickle Guys https://www.pickleguys.com/. You could get them sent to Washington and then drive down and pick them up.

Good quality fresh olive oil in Vancouver or Burnaby?

I second the Golden Eleni olive oil from Basil Olive oil products. It's very fresh and of the highest quality. I use it in my restaurant.

Bagels in Vancouver

I don't know, I like NY bagels better than Montreal style. I lived in NY for 7 years so I guess I just got used to them. I love the super fresh, heavy, dense bagels with literally an inch of cream cheese on them(anything less is a smear(pronounced shmear not smear)). One thing that really pisses me off in Vancouver, is when they toast your bagel when you don't ask them to. FRESH BAGELS SHOULD NEVER BE TOASTED!!!!! EVER!!!!! Toasting is for day olds.

Royal Fortune Szechuan (Fraser St) ?

That's the one near Grand View Szechuan right? I ordered take out out from there once and it was just O.K.. I think Grand View across the street is a little better, but they are similar.

Where can i find the Best Fried chicken in the GVRD

I gotta say, I never thought much of Church's but I tried their spicy recipe recently and it's pretty delicious. I'm kind of hooked on it, but I always order all dark meat with the thigh being my favourite. I still don't know why people like fried chicken breasts. I also really like their spicy thigh sandwich and their hot and sweet which is a spicy thigh sandwich topped with coleslaw instead of lettuce and tomato. It's too bad their fries suck.

Poutine in Vancouver: can it be done?

The sauce for an authentic poutine isn't really a gravy but a chicken veloute. Birchwood dairy in Abbotsford makes excellent cheddar curds and the nice thing is, you can get them the day they are made. According to the cheesemaker there, the curds have to be super fresh to "squeek"
.

Vancouver for 3 months ... help!

Thick cut fries are called chips! Come on Fernando, you're better than this. Just kidding! T

Knife sharpening in Vancouver?

This guy did a freat job on my Hattori knives. http://www3.telus.net/public/kitano/ He picked them up and delivered them a couple of days later. I've never had knives so sharp and they have remained sharp for months now.

Nathan's Hot Dogs

I should say, there are definitely better mustards out there than Gulden's. I just think it's the best mustard for a NY style hot dog. Sauerkraut and Guldens or NY style onion relish(my favourite) and Guldens. Delicious!!

Major disappointment - Vera's in Gastown

It's kinda hard to see because it's actually in the lumberyard and you have to walk up some pretty rickety old stairs. The whole restaurant is slanted! Also, it's only open in the daytime. They close at three or something like that.

Major disappointment - Vera's in Gastown

My contractor took me to a little restaurant for lunch a few weeks ago that I really enjoyed. It is called Northern Cafe and is located at1640 E Kent Ave and I believe that it's actually one of Vancouver's oldest restaurants(it's changed names and hands many times). I had the burger special with a fried egg added and it was really good. It certainly is not a gourmet burger but it was a well prepared greasy spoon burger and the fries are hand cut right in front of you. The owner is an older Chinese man and he is adorable. I wanted to pinch his cheeks. I was impressed with the perfectly runny yolk on the fried egg. I wonder if anyone else has eaten there?

Major disappointment - Vera's in Gastown

I tried Fatburger yesterday and didn't like it. Burger was tasteless and I hate those frozen fries. I call them Sysco fries. I really wanted to like it but it just didn't do it for me.

Guy Fieri in Vancouver - I'm sure you've all heard! [moved from BC]

Good one!

Guy Fieri in Vancouver - I'm sure you've all heard! [moved from BC]

I've noticed from photos, that Save on Meats' club sandwich only has two slices of bread. Does anyone else think that is just wrong? It's not a club sandwich without 3 slices of bread, no?

Guy Fieri in Vancouver - I'm sure you've all heard! [moved from BC]

Oh man, you picked some good ones!!! Obedient ingredient......that is so annoying. And Eat Shrink and be Merry, that is one of the worst shows on TV. Have you ever noticed that they win every single competition? Give me a break. Nothing worse than Bitchin Kitchen though.

Guy Fieri in Vancouver - I'm sure you've all heard! [moved from BC]

Rachael is still less annoying.

Where should I get my shwarma fix in Vancouver

It's really hard to find proper lamb shawarma in this city.

Guy Fieri in Vancouver - I'm sure you've all heard! [moved from BC]

Don't waste your time. It sucks.

DDD in Van

Really? The last time I ate there it was terrible.

Best Burger in Vancouver - what's your vote?

A burger with no ketchup? That's like a hot dog with no mustard!

Dimsum on carts at Golden Phoenix, Vancouver

I went there a couple of weeks ago and had a similarly good experience. I will defintely go again.

Nathan's Hot Dogs

I always buy some when I go across the border.

Nathan's Hot Dogs

Good idea! I'll make the hot dogs. We need proper natural casing dogs for a mustard taste off.

Nathan's Hot Dogs

No way, Gulden's is the one!

Nathan's Hot Dogs

Are they the original Nathan's dogs with the natural casing?

Vancouver - Pad Thai?

Most of the restaurants here make it too sweet and not savoury enough for my taste.

Vancouver - Pad Thai?

Yeah, plenty of egg! I love that. That's the key to my favourite thai noodle dish, pad si ew. I love that dish but have yet to have a good one in Vancouver. It should be made with gai lan, not broccoli but most places here make it with broccoli. And they add carrots too! Come on. Also, fresh broad rice noodles are key. I had a decent version at a restaurant recently but they used dried thin rice noodles.
