Mint coming out my ears!!!!
nam sod....a Thai salad using lots of mint, ginger, cashews, lettuce, chicken/pork or tofu...
Tired of cinnamon/walnut/raisin Bittman bread. Any suggestions?
Thanks for all the suggestions. I just made the KA Oatmeal bread (regular rise, not no knead) and added chopped dates and walnuts instead of raisins. Also some vanilla extract. Most delicious...
Next time I will try this with the KA no knead oatmeal bread.
Thanks again,
Meagan
Tired of cinnamon/walnut/raisin Bittman bread. Any suggestions?
I have been making the Lahey/bittman no knead bread with either walnuts and raisins, dried cherries and pecans, or the olive bread for a while. All are great. But I need some new ideas for things to add. Figs and walnuts? Pistachios? almonds? I didn't really like the apricot/almond bread from his book--to heavy.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Meagan
I soaked a pound of dry hominy, now what?
There sure is a lot of it; soft and bland and only two of us at home to eat it. I made a Mexican vegetarian posole and used about 2 cups. Any ideas? I am trying not to eat much fat or meat, so pork/bacon/butter are out.
Thanks in advance,

Is sherry vinegar worth the expense?
Definitely worth the expense...I had avoided buying it for a long time, then broke down and bought a bottle. I primarily use it for salad dressing. It has a wonderful, distinct taste. I don't think there is a substitute for it...red wine vinegar doesn't really taste the same.
Meeting for dinner around exit 3/4 turnpike
Thanks mschow. We went to the Phily Diner on the Black Horse Pike not far from Exit 3. Food was ok, service very nice, prices inexpensive.
Meeting for dinner around exit 3/4 turnpike
Any suggestions? We live in north Jersey and want to meet family from Delaware for a school night dinner. Nothing fancy...diner or Italian is fine. Just don't want it to be too complicated trying to find it in the dark (old eyes), so I would like it to be easy to get to from the TP or even 295.
Thank you everyone!

Great product for cleaning yeast dough bowls...
never posted on this board before. I bake alot of yeast breads/rolls. And I usually use a sponge/scrubber to wash the kneading/rising bowls. Then all the sticky dough stays on the sponge forever. Just bought 'Scotch-brite' 'Stay Clean' purple scrubbers. The package says 'Even eggs and cheese won't stick!' Haven't tried the scrubber with either of those, but it sure works on yeast doughs! I am very impressed.

Wonder Seafood DIM SUM Edison any menu suggestions?
My favorite dim sum at Wonder are the fried puffy/crispy taro balls. They are wonderful. We were just there last weekend...everything was good. Another favorite is a sweet--little black bean dumplings with sesame seeds and chopped peanuts. They didn't have them last weekend when we were there (1pm). I agree with poster albinoni--it is possible to be stuffed too quickly if you take everything as soon as it comes to your table.
Lahey's coconut chocolate bread anyone?
Has anyone here made the no-knead coconut chocolate bread from Lahey's 'My Bread?' It looks interesting. I love coconut/chocolate combo. I have been to the 47th st Sullivan Street Bakery 1/2 dozen times and have never seen it for sale. Makes me wonder if it is not that good. I'd like to hear if anyone has made it and what the take on it is.
Thanks,

Cape May Crabs?
We will be in Cape May next week for a few days, staying at a B&B. Any suggestions on where to go and eat steamed hard crabs? We have gone to the Lobster House and Junior's (Cape May Court House), but wondered if anyone had any suggestions for summer 2011.
Thanks,

Roasted Chick Peas/other beans
My latest food addiction is home roasted chick peas. After soaking the dried chick peas, I dry them well, spritz them with a little olive oil, salt and season them with garlic powder, fennel seed and smoked paprika. Roast them in the oven at 350 degrees for about an hour on a cookie sheet. Toss and mix them around about every 10 minutes so they roast evenly. I sometimes leave them in the oven until the oven is cooled down. The chick peas are light and crunchy--yummers! My question to you hounds is whether anyone has made these with other types of beans such as black beans, pintos, red beans. If so, let me know how you seasoned them and how they turned out.
Thanks!

I've already done some homework and nothing pops out. We will take the 1 train from penn station to Morningside Heights, tour the campus. Then take the 4 bus across the park to Museum Mile/Conservatory Garden. Any suggestions on where to eat? Light, preferably vegetarian fare.
Thanks, as always...

Taking Deviled Eggs to a Party
We will be traveling about 2 hours to a surprise b'day party for my brother. After going over the menu with S-I-L, we agreed that I would bring deviled eggs. Am I crazy to try and transport them? Any suggestions/recipes would be appreciated. I thought I would cook the eggs, split them, make the filling here at home. I'll pack everything in a cold cooler. Then fill them when we get there. Will the whites fall apart and will I have a big mess on my hands? Should I take something else? I am looking at fingerfood ideas. Thank you.
Quick & Savoury Breakfast ideas needed – unconventional suggestions welcomed!
Congee. Rice, water, chicken; Make it ahead and eat it all week. Top with soy sauce, peanuts, hot sauce.

Doesn't look like David Drake has any plans to return to Rahway. Interesting article.

Delivery of Thanksgiving dinner or gift food basket
My nephew is living alone in New Orleans. I would like to have a Thanksgiving meal or basket of local foods delivered to him. Can anyone direct me to local restaurants/gourmet/food shops that could help me with this? I need names/phone numbers/websites.
Thank you all in advance!

Food Parc vs Food Hall vs Eataly
Any comments? I have been to Eataly twice and agree with many of the Chowhound postings about how disorganized and confusing it is. I'll go back in a few months when they get some kinks worked out.
This week we want to get something quick/light before heading to the theater at 7pm. So should we head north of the Theater District to The Food Hall at the Plaza or south to Food Parc?
Thanks in advance.

Need recs for Sunday brunch in Wilmington area
Thanks for the idea! I would never have thought of the Columbus Inn for this! I moved away from DE 30 years ago, but still have family there. I haven't been to the Columbus Inn for 29 years. Just looked at their online menu...looks promising. Thanks again.

Need recs for Sunday brunch in Wilmington area
Any suggestions for a nice Sunday brunch in Wilmington? We used to live in the area and are visiting family for the weekend. Years ago we went to the Hotel Dupont for brunch. It was OK...and we'd go back there if nothing more interesting is available. This is a big birthday (60!) for a family member, so I'd like it to be special. Due to time constraints we will not be able to travel far outside of Wilmington DE, so Philly ideas are not needed.
Thank You!

Back from Cape May
We just spent a few very pleasant days in Cape May. I want to alert the board to a few places we tried. The Sea Shanty is on Beach Ave, across from the Convention Center. It is a new, small place with a few tables inside and a few outside. Order at the counter and eat on paper plates. We shared a lobster roll and a fried scallop sandwich. Both came with French Fries and were delicious! Nothing fancy, just good seafood at the seashore. The lobster roll had enough lobster to rival Pearl Oyster Bar's. The scallops were perfectly cooked, not at all greasy. I asked them to hold the tartar sauce. On the ocean side of Beach Ave is McGlades. We had two good meals there; scallops (again), soft shell crabs, and grouper. McGlades doesn't look like much, but the food was well prepared and fresh. I would go there many times over before going to the Lobster House once. We also ate at the Cape May Seafood House ( may have the name wrong) on the Washington Street Mall. Also had the lobster roll, which was OK. The lobster had been sauteed in butter and the dish was served warm. No mayo at all. Not as good as the Sea Shanty. My brother had whole lobster which he enjoyed. All of these places are BYOB. McGlades stops serving at 9pm. doG willing, I will get back to Cape May and eat at the Sea Shanty and McGlades again.
Happy Summer!

Steamed crabs/Cape May
I know Cape May dining has been discussed here before, but here goes: We are going to CP next week and would like to sit outside/waterside and eat steamed crabs. Other than Junior's (RT 9/47) or the Lobster House, does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks in advance,

Normandy/Caen/ Bayeux
Any suggestions for good meals in Normandy? I am not looking for Michelin starred restaurants, just good local places. We will be traveling from Brussels, visiting the D-Day sites for a few days. We are staying in Caen. Thanks in advance!

Anything near Montclair Art Museum?
I am not familiar with Montclair and will be visiting the Art Museum this week. Any suggestions for lunch near the museum? We like Japanese, Thai, Italian, Vietnamese, Indian, American Bistro...you get the picture.
