Seafood restaurants in Amsterdam
hi!
I'm in Amsterdam now, had two dinners, two more to go. last night I went to Lucius as recommended by the hotel for seafood, around the corner from here. It was pretty good. I had the seafood platter for one, and it was the biggest I've ever seen. There was a half lobster, crab, two types of shrimps, plus dutch baby shrimps, clams, razor clams, mussels, oysters, conch, and at least a couple other shellfish. And they give you so much.
Tonight I went to Haeje Claes (sp), had the big pot of mussels cooked in white wine. Pretty good.
Tomorrow night I have a reservation at De Kas. Is it worth trying?
I'm looking for another seafood restaurant. I can go anywhere, as long as it's good. How is Le Pecher(sp) near Old Center/ central canal. Sorry I'm too lazy to go look up the correct spelling.
Any other ideas?
Thanks so much!
Sushi Zo vs Mori Sushi?
do you mean sakae in burlingame in northern california? it's still around. they lost the lease, moved to around the corner and named it noboru, then changed it back to sakae. food is still good. btw, we'll be in town right after xmas and have one night for sushi. i'm debating between mori or kiriko - looking for the best fish, and good cooked dishes will be a plus. or do you have other suggestions? thanks!
cooking parties
Looking for a place that does cooking parties for a moms' night out. Maybe one of those that you can pick up some recipes and/or actually pack food/ingredients home. Any suggestions? Burlingame or San Mateo area will be ideal. Thanks so much.
flour
Thanks, everyone. I normally use all purpose flour for baking, but just picked up a bag of "white flour," and the banana bread I made seemed to be a little different, maybe a little more dense, but I'll try again to see if it really is different - could be just my imagination.
flour
Can I use "white flour" when recipe calls for all-purpose flour? What's the difference? This is for baking things like cookies, bread, cakes.
Thanks!

They are at some farmers markets and a few stores as noted on their website. Their pretzels are really good, as are a lot of their bread and pastries.
Argand Oil [moved from Manhattan board]
Discovered this in Morocco this past summer - love it. Brought back a few bottles...
Romantic Italian- Need help!!
What about Da Flora in North Beach, small, quaint place, superb food and wine. totally romantic and italian!!
South Lake Tahoe dining
Evan's - small place, good Cal/American food, decent wine list, one of the better places in south tahoe http://www.evanstahoe.com/
Naked Fish - good sushi, decent selections, very popular, no reservations, fun place
The Red Hut - good breakfast place, very populat as well.
Sushi Sam's Downhill Warning
I don't agree... We go there once a week for the last many yrs, and Sam is getting more exotic fish than before, and they are as fresh as it gets. We don't order much cooked food, so I can't comment on that, but as far as the sushi and sashimi go, they definitely have one of the most interesting and fresh selection around.
Takoyaki outside of festivals
instead of microwaving, I put them in the toaster oven and seems to come out better.
SF & Napa Restaurants, Dry Creek Passport Event
The Passport event is a lot of fun. I think this is the 4th yr we're going. Each participating winery put up a lot of food - not just your usual cheese and crackers, but a major spread, but of course some are more elaborate than others. A. Rafanelli usually has a 10+ item buffet, some have oyster bars (Hog Island, no less), good BBQ, mexican, italian.... and it goes on. Sometimes the wineries list their food theme on the passport map, so check it out before you go and plan around it. We hire a car/limo for our group - it's a lot easier as you don't have to find your way to the wineries, and you don't have to worry about drinking and driving, and the driver can just drop you off and pick you up when you're done with each winery, no parking needed! Believe it or not, after 6 solids hours of drinking and bingeing, we still manage/want to have dinner! We've been going to Cyrus and Santi mostly - reservations necessary! Have fun!
Fleur de Lys SF

Jeanty at Jack's vs. Rue Saint Jacques
Jeanty is a favorite - food, service and ambiance are all good. You must try the tomato bisque with the puff pastry.
