Odeon or Raoul's?

Raouls for sure. Odeon has slipped a bit over he years.
I would also agree with he post on Lcuien - has been my favorite steak frites for 11 years, only second to Raouls.

Italian hoagies

Just a quick correction here on spelling and location so you do not miss it - Parisi on Mott between Kenmare and Spring. Yes Parisi sandwiches are absolutely incredible. They also make there own roast peppers so be sure to ask for them on your hoagie. I am a Philly transplant to NYC here so I know how hoagie translates to hero.

Current list of Rafiqi Halal Carts in NYC?

Is the 8th street location fare-weather only? I went by today and it was gone. Because it is really cold? Or just a Saturday?

Chicken Pot Pie?

Chelsea Market had awesome chix-pot-pies. They were individual small pies for take-out. I say had because I have not been there in a long time, hopefully they still have them.

fish tacos?

La Esquina - Lafeyette and Kenmare - best fish tacos in town, no contest.
Light and grilled, sweet and spicy sauce, crisp veg and tortillas are tender and slightly chewey.

Hill Country - what's best?

Beef Ribs are KING - no need for anything else.
Maybe a small small portion of the brisket to try but way to fatty.

Sides - mac n cheese re good but ...... focus, Beef Ribs.

Cheesesteaks

Yes they do. I believe there are actually 3 somewhat close together. There was an article about a feud between a few of them (Tortilla Wars or something like that.)
Yeah they supply most all of the city. That is why all the tortillas you get in restaurants are chewy and tender and semi elastic and why the El Passo ones at the super market are thick and nasty. Believe me if i ever find the location of the Tortilla Triangle I'm gonna stock up.

my new hamburger ranking

Move Corner Bistro way down, Fanelli closer to the top.
Maybe put Shopsin's sliders on the list. (only when Zack is at the grill)

Blue hill NYC, still worth it?

I have to say Blue Hill is one of the best meals I have had in NYC - on a very short list.
Spectacular is right. But yes, reservations should be made well in advance.

What Recent Meal "Blew You Away"?

I second Blue Hill - on WOW par with Grammercy Tavern.

i waited 1 hour for food at shake shack yesterday...

I used to wait between 1/2 hr and 3 hours for shake shack. I am over it. Yes I love the burgers, but unless i walk bay and the line is manageable, I'll keep walking.

Is Lombardi's worth it for the history?

The walk is a bit long but worth it.
I mention Grimaldis as the best in BK.
There are some fines places in NYC as mentioned above, but Lombardis does not make the list.

Just my opinion however. I recomend trying as many as you have time for and then decide for yourself.

Is Lombardi's worth it for the history?

You are way better off going to Grimaldis in BK - the walk across the bridge takes about the same time as waiting in the Lombardis line and you get a view.

Pizza is 10x better ate Grimaldis

Goodies closed?

Last I went it was more like $4 for 8-9 soup dumplings - but still can't beat that. Plus they are best tasting SD in t he city - so price and quality make it fantastic - which is why I am nervous about the closing.

Halal Carts in NYC

I think ( in addition to salt, onion, cinnamon, carrot, tumeric mentioned above) cumin, garlic, veg. oil, chix stock

There is a distinction tho - the yogurt mentioned above is for the white sauce.

What I'm talking about is the marinade for the grill. Other than that I am perplexed as well - there is something else. Always wanted to ask them but never had the courage.

Post moved to another forum

I started a thread in the Manhattan forum about halal carts and their sauce.
You moved it to home cooing - this was specifically about nyc food carts.
I respect your position as moderator but i would appreciate it if you could put it back in the Manhattan post.
Thanks

Ingredients in the halal carts sauce?

I was wondering if anyone knows waht spices go into the yellow sauce the cart guys use for their grilled chix?

I know it is yogurt based and i smell cinamon, garlic, cumin and probably tumeric.
Anyone else - I would love to be able to reverse-engineer some.

Thanks

I was there a little less than a month ago and all seemed well. Is it true? I will be horrified if it is - best and cheapest soup dumplings in the universe.

I would like to try to emulate it.

Cheers
