Oyster crackers [Crab Trap, Somers Point]

Ms OC and I had lunch today at the Crab Trap in Somers Point. I was sad to find that they no longer put out oyster crackers and horseradish. I used to love munching on them while waiting for our food.

Does anyone know why Subway does not have ketchup in their restaurants?

The expression "Taylor Ham" is a North Jersey thing. They also call ground beef "chopped meat"

When Cheapo is Better than Pricey?

Lamb shoulder chops are WAY cheaper than those tiny loin chops and have just about the same lamb flavor

Name Brand Or Generic?

I am becoming more flexible about buying store brands now that I am retired, but off the top of my head there are two things I must have name brand.

Worcestershire sauce = Lea & Perrins
English muffins = Thomas's

Potato cakes

When I was a kid, my mother used to make little patties out of left-over mashed potatoes and brown them in a frying pan. I loved them. I have tried to make them myself, but they get soft and runny. Does anyone know the proper way to prepare mashed potato patties?

Squishing potato chips in your sandwich...anyone else do this?

I will second chips on a tuna salad sandwich. I would take them to school back in the 50's. The chips had to be seperate until ready to eat or they would get soggy.

Did Your Mom Repeatedly Cook a Dish You Despised?

I was not allowed to leave the table until my liver was gone. Luckily, my place at the table was next to the window, so when I was the last one left, out the window went the liver. I bet the neighborhood cats loved it when we had liver!

What was in your Christmas stocking growing-up?

There was always a tangerine in the toe. Every year I also got mixed nuts in the shell. Gold foil covered chocolate coins (Geldt) and a Book shaped box of assorted Lifesavers. There were also assorted small toys.

Do you really like that green bean casserole?

When I was a kid, back in the 40's and 50's, my mother often served me campbell's cream soups for lunch. Cream of mushroom, cream of celery, cream of potato. She also served a lunch of onion soup from a Lipton's envelope
