Nemo - Keyport Sushi-Pan-Asian Cuisine
We were there yesterday also. Did you happen to be there when the ridiculously loud birthday party overran the restaurant? I swear they were the cast rejects from the show Jersey Shore.
But I digress...We had some awesome apps 1)The taku salad 2)Phenomenal spicy mussels (HIGHLY RECOMMEND!)
Then sushi consisted of volcano role, naruto roll (our favorite), alaskan roll, yellow fin tuna sushi and fireman roll.
Good stuff, very full. If only the weather was a bit cooler we could've sat outside and away from the very loud and boisterous Snooki...
Nemo - Keyport Sushi-Pan-Asian Cuisine
I had only the chicken satay hot appetizer. If there was any complaint it would have been the satay. However that has more to do with my expectation of satay rather than actual execution by the restaurant. Satay to me has a peanut sauce whereas Nemo's version was more of a Yakitori interpretation.
Nemo - Keyport Sushi-Pan-Asian Cuisine
Just got back from Nemo. First time there and it will become a standard goto place for us. The menu selection is outstanding and everything we had was delicious. Top all of that off with very friendly owners, incredible prices and the short travel time for us to reach there. This place is a gem.
We had the yellow fin sushi, soft shell crab roll, octopus salad, satay (for son), spring rolls and alaskan roll. We had eaten last week at Mahzu and that place left me wanting for quality sushi. Nemo does not disappoint.
FIRST RATE RESTAURANT!
Bistro Amerigo- Matawan
I was pretty dissatisfied with this place. It has the potential to be a nice neighborhood restaurant but unfortunately fails. I went with my wife for dinner this past weekend and the place had only 2 tables filled other than ours (the bar was decently packed).
We ordered oysters on the half shell (initially served without horseradish) and crab stuffed mushrooms. The oysters were good (hard to mess that up!) but the stuffed mushrooms were average. They used canned crab meat which is a big no no.
For our main course we ordered the grouper special and snapper. The snapper was done decently if a bit overcooked. Taste was good. The grouper special on the other hand was horribly executed. It was again stuffed with CANNED CRABMEAT! Who ruins a perfectly good grouper fillet with that? What a waste! I had to scrape out that horrendous pile of fishfood to make the dish somewhat palatable. It's a shame really, the grouper was cooked well, the crabmeat just wrecked it. If they took the time and pride in their dish, it would have been served with fresh lump crabmeat. Either jack up the price for the dish and serve with fresh ingredients or get rid of the stuffing.
Finally we got the chocolate cake desert which was good. Service was good as well, the staff being very friendly and prompt.
Bagel Survey
I must disagree on the Eli's Bagel reviews. I thought they were some of the worst bagels i've had. Way too dense and tiny.
Bagel Time is THE place for bagels in Matawan.
Within Jersey, I'll have to give it to Bagel's Abroad in Bloomfield. They still are the best.
Famous Deninos of S.I. Stealths into Aberdeen, NJ
Just had their pizza today for dinner. The BEST I've had so far ( A Mano in Ridgewood is just a tick behind but is more of a gourmet pizza).
This place knows how to make pizza. Add to the fact that it's only a few minutes drive away for me and it's a no brainer. Atillio's used to be my defacto, no more...
Cafe de Thai (Matawan, NJ)
Ate there yesterday. Pretty good Thai food. I'm a recent transplant from Bloomfield where I was spoiled by Brookside Thai. I'd have to say this place is on par with them. I've had better Thai in Chinatown, NYC but for NJ I'll go to this place again.
Per Chowhound user tip, I had the Pumpkin Custard. It was great!
A Mano - New Pizza NJ
Must say A Mano is a top10 pizza spot. The owner gets all of his ingredients from Italy. Funny enough, their gelato is probably the BEST part of the restaurant. You MUST have the chocolate scoop and wild strawberry...delectable.
