Creative dinner for 24 in Boulder
I'm not sure why you think that Zolo "is a good place to handle a large group like that." The dining room is actually rather small and the tables are mostly set back against banquettes or are booths. I can't see much of an opportunity for a group of 24 unless they reserve the outside patio. Even so, when I was there for a large group tequila tasting, we sat at individual tables, not one large conglomerated table.
Stick with Claire's suggestions. They are all right on the money.
Mexican take-out in Santa Fe?
Try the Coyote Cafe. They have some Mexican inspired dishes and you can get them for take out. Or, take a chance and gamble 12 bucks for an order from Posa's and see for yourself if they meet your objective.
Need Advice for Chimayo, NM
They were probably the people who started the fire and wanted to keep their mouths shut! :)
As far as the food at R d C goes, you're really not missing much. IMO, it's pretty mediocre. But sitting outside sipping sangria, on a nice day, is a nice experience. I'm not familiar with any other restaurants that are close, you will probably have to drive into Espanola.
Greasy Spoons In Denver
My first visit to the VCS was in 1971 when it was open 24 hours and I was a student at CU. We referred to it as the "all night diner" and it was a unique entity in Boulder, even at that time.
Every day Bourbon & Scotch
Not sure where you live, but in Denver I get Bowmore Legend for about $19/bottle. An excellent value for an 8yo Islay that is a good everyday pour.
Vegas: Smith & Wollensky or Craftsteak
I'd recommend Craftsteak. IMO, it's significantly better than S&W which is not a dig at them. I have enjoyed meals there in NYC & Chicago. But, I consider them more of a chain and Craftsteak more of a unique entity, in spite of it's NY roots. By the way, I consider the original Craft as one of my all time favorites.
As far as the sneakers, good for them! I have no problem with restaurants trying to impose a little propriety on their potential customers.
Any Suggestions for Unique Casual/Affordable Dining in Las Vegas?
The Pasta Shop
2495 E Tropicana Ave
Locals and visitors in the know who can't stand the over-hyped and overpriced celeb chef joints on the Strip.
Rosemary's Las Vegas
The most difficult part of the process is waiting in the cab line at whichever hotel you are staying! It's about a 15 minute ride, depending upon traffic. The staff at Rosemary's will call for a cab to pick you up when you're finished with a dynamite dinner there.
Fort Collins lunch suggestions?
You're welcome. I always try to help the helpless. By the way, the Pickle Barrel was mentioned in that thread twice.

Anyone been eating in Golden, west of Denver?
Thanks for the update. It's been awhile since I had been there but I'm sorry to see that they folded.
Anyone been eating in Golden, west of Denver?
The Hilltop Bistro in Golden has always been excellent.
The restaurant in the Table Mountain Inn is what you might remember. It's always been top notch.
A little more down home is Davie's Chuck Wagon Diner on Colfax.
Another good bet would be 240 Union on Simm's in Lakewood.
In Morrison, the Morrison Inn is usually entertaining although I find the food to be good, not great.
Looking for an off-strip locals, but excellent, restaurant in Las Vegas
I was just about to recommend the Pasta Shop, too! Been going for years and never disappointed.
High-end German spirits? (moved from International board)
I've found that a wide range of digestivs are typical but very regional. One of my favorites is Tatzlwurm Feur from Oberaudorf in southern Bavaria. It is produced by the Hotel Feuriger Tatzlwurm and is a potent cinnamon flavored spirit.
Chicago-Style Pizza: Denver?
The most authentic deep dish pizza I've found used to be had at Baked in Boulder. But, they closed as a restaurant and Whole Foods used to carrie their pizzas frozen. But I think that's history, too. Other than that, no place I've found can come close to classic Chicago deep dish.
I grew up eating at Due almost every week-end and that was when Ike Sewell was still alive and the pizza was great. By the way, I preferred Due over Uno. I swear that there was a difference and the basement "atmosphere" at Due was better. When the Uno name was licensed to be franchised, it was an atrocity! The pizza was horrific.
Old Chicago originally had a fairly decent deep dish but it's deteriorated over the years.

Agreed on The Rib House. Dynamite brisquit and pulled pork.
Saturday Night in Boulder
The 90 yo Matriarch spent the day at our house and then we decided to head to downtown Boulder for an early dinner. First stop was Jill's in the St. Julien for a drink. We all had a round of Hendricks martinis which is an excellent way to start things off. Note, Hendricks was not stocked in the bar at Jill's but the barkeep headed over to the lobby bar to get the juice. A bit strange. But, he fabricated excellent martinis with just the right drop of vermouth. We noticed an interesting shaped bottle of tequila which he said was Don Julio 1942 and he told us it was his favorite. $21/shot but he offered up a complimentary taste which was appreciated by all. Excellent stuff!
Since it was only 6:30 I thought we had a shot at a table at the Med. Wrong! 45 minute wait. Across the street at Brasserie 1010 it was 45 minutes to an hour. So, heading east on Walnut we stopped at the Walnut Brewery and got right in. It's been several years since we've been there so the time was right to check it out again. I ordered a seasonal Pilsner which, for me, was absolutely undrinkable! Bore no relation to what I prefer as a real pilsner. The server took it back without a pause and I settled into an Old Elk which has been an old favorite. That was better.
We started with their massive pretzel appetizer served with a spicy spinach cheese dip and two bottle of mustard. "Almost" as good as Bavarian Bratzen, well not quite. But still the pretzels were fresh, with a nice hard crust and soft interior. They were also huge so we took one home.
I had a grilled salmon sandwich with bacon - beautifully done, served with fries and slaw. The cole slaw was average to mediocre. The fries were oversalted. But my salmon sandwich was perfect. Also huge - took half home. My wife had a vegie burger that was also dynamite. Same fries situation and also came with some stringy onion rings mixed in. Mom had a bacon burger of which she stripped off the bacon and bread and then ate half the patty. Typical. Took the other half home.
The Rockies were on TV which was nice and all in all, a very pleasant dinner. I would have preferred the Med but this worked just fine.

I think you might have your directions skewed a little. You probably mean that you take Main St. south which is Hwy 287 until you hit Hwy 36 - the Boulder Turnpike. Then go east on 36 towards Denver and get off at 104th Ave and then you'll see the Westin to the East. I've never eaten at O's but it sounds interesting.
Advice on Colorado Corkage Please
First of all, I'm not a Frasca groupie but if you're going to make comments about a restauranteur then you should really try to get the business name correct.
It is illegal to bring your own alcohol to a restaurant in Colorado, period. Most restaurants run on a very slim profit margin and alcohol is a large contributor to their success. I've seen wine mark-ups that are more than reasonable and some that are completely outrageous. Frasca's prices are in line with other places of its caliber. By the way, have you looked at their wine list to see if the prices are greatly inflated to make your judgement call? If Bobby wants to earmark some of his profits to take his staff to Italy, that's not a problem with me, why should it irk you? You don't like it, you don't eat there.
And, if you don't like the liquor laws in Colorado then either don't eat here or lobby to change them. Sheesh.
Middle Eastern in Denver/Boulder
Hmmm. Did someone report me to the Chow Polizei because I said a discouraging word about Mumtaz? One one experience there for lunch was not good. Menu looked promising but the dishes were not good. Everything tasted a little off and unusual. Took a long time to get my order, too. I would not recommend this place nor go back there.
Middle Eastern in Denver/Boulder
Beirut Grill in Englewood at 203 W. Hampden. I stumbled upon this place by accident last year and it was a fabulous find! The best hummus & falafel that I have experienced. Granted, I'm not familiar with the choices in DC and environs so my comparisons are limited. Other dishes are great, too. Nice people who run it. It's a little hard to find but I highly recommend it.

Tortuga's. One of my favorites, anywhere. Food with a Caribbean flair. Dynamite fish.
Lucile's. Cajun/Creole. Breakfast-luch only.
Efrain's for sit down Mexican. A branch of their Lafayette "flagship" joint. A real bargain and the chile verde is killer.
You'll also find numerous taquerias scattered around with fresh tortillas and tacos.
Colterra in Niwot. About a 10 minute drive south on your way to Boulder.
Boulder is just a short drive anyway and your choices grow exponentially.
Oskar Blues in Lyons. Drive 20 minutes west to this brew pub with excellent food, great live music and fabulous beer including their signature Dale's Pale Ale.
Speaking of beer, a stop at the tasting room of Left Hand Brewing in Longmont is well worth it.
Frasca Hype (Boulder)
You got it, subjective. The statement that Frasca is "hands down the best restaurant in Boulder" truly irks me. My opinion is that Dish Gourmet is consistently better at what they do than Frasca. I've had stellar meals at Frasca and some that were just expensive and bizarre along with the sometimes idiotic mewing of the servers. Besides, I can take a Dish sandwich to a Rockies game. Try that with a Frasca starter of 2 fish eggs on half a piece of cucumber with a duck confit reduction. I also go across the street to L'Atelier and am just as pleased. So, when I see "best" posted anywhere on CH, I usually just bite my lip and take another sip of Lagavulin. But this thread just brings out the worst of my sarcastic side.
Help Please.....SLC to Tetons and beyond
Yes. I was going to end my post right there, but the Chow police would yank it! If you're going through Sheridan, be sure to have dinner at Oliver's. An incredible place.
recommendations in boulder
The kid friendliest restaurant in Boulder is Pasta Jay's. At least that's my observation based upon the number of families with kids lined up waiting for tables. The food, however, is absolutely pitiful! That is, unless you like cardboard pasta and Prego tomato sauce. Both of which tend to be thrown at you from the kids at the neighboring table.
You'll do well if you follow Claire's suggestions. I would also add Carelli's at the corner of 30th & Baseline. The adults can get nice Italian dishes and the kids can share a pizza.
Delicious Dives in Santa Fe?
The Plaza Restaurant
Mariscos la Playa
Bobcat Bites
Horseman's Haven
Sorry, I've never understood the attraction to Tomasita's. It's always crowded with tourists and I find it to be mediocre at best.
Finlaggen shortage?
Finlaggen does remind me of a youthful Lagavulin. Last week, Daveco in Denver had Bowmore Legend on sale for just under $20. This is an 8yo and a very nice Whisky for that price.
Ideas for Delegates????
Latest news is that many of the parties are being canceled because the Looper (Mayor Hickenlooper) is falling way short of the money they need to raise. There will also be Green Police on the convention floor to make sure you recycle/compost/re-use according to PC green line. All plates served in the Pepsi Center also will have mandatory 50% fruit/vegies to be healthy and fried foods, although not banned, are being discouraged. This is the absolute truth, I couldn't make this up!
So, if you want to secretly buck the trend and head to Boulder, I'd suggest Pupusas Al Sabor on North Broadway. Dish Gourmet on Pearl for exquisite sandwiches. Tibet's in Louisville for Tibetan/Nepalese. The West End Tavern for pub food and Bourbon. You might want to burn your receipts in case the DNC KGB decides to check you for bad eating habits when you try to get back into the convention.
