Driving down from BC--where to stop? veg friendly, cheap

It's the "Knead and Feed" in Coupeville.

Ham - shank or butt

Time to get my Easter ham. What's the difference between shank and butt hams?

Lunch, Dinner and Breakfast in Carmel/Monterey area

For lunch or dinner in Pacific Grove you could try Petra, a Jordanian restaurant, with dynamite felafel. They have a trans-Mediterranean menu, so you can get gyros, kebabs and other Levantine fare.

Palm Springs dinner

I am going to be in town Thursday night, for the street fair, and I need a recommendation for a moderately priced restaurant wherre my friends and I can have a conversation. I'm thinking Zin Bistro or Azul. Any comments/recommendations?

Thanks

btw: I've done both El Gallito and Cheeky's based on Chowhound recommendations and both were great!!!

Affordable Smoked Fish

Seebolt's at Deception Pass

Joel Palmer House - Dayton, OR

Thanks

Joel Palmer House - Dayton, OR

Is this place still in existance? Is their mushroom soup still to die for?

Lunch destination as part of scenic drive

Anacortes/LaConner/Bellingham - kind of a long drive for lunch & game. Much easier to hop a ferry to Whidbey Island. Best place to watch the game is Toby's in Coupeville. Try some fresh, Penn Cove mussels. If you're interested in an upscale lunch try Gordons in Freeland or Christophers in Coupeville.

He had me at Seasoning the Glasses....

OK, you got me! I will ask the question - what the heck is meant by "seasoning the glasses"?

Edible Canada at Granville Island plus other savoury snacks

Yes, the duck fries are delicious. They accompanied an excellent pork sandwich. Great place for lunch!

Penticton

I will be in the area for the Okanagan Wine Festival and would appreciate dining suggestions. And, if you have any recommendations for wineries to visit, or avoid, particularly on Naramata Bench, they would be welcomed.

Naramata Bench

I will be heading north for the Okanagan Wine Festival and plan to concentrate on the area around Penticton, BC. Any recommendations about wineries to visit, or to avoid, would be appreciated. Also, I would appreciate dining suggestions.

Vancouver visit next week - too many decisions - I need help!

For dim sum try Chonging. The servers know enough English to help you make selections, and the variety is awesome!

Coupeville

While I do not wish to quibble with the recommendations for Gordon's, there is no need to drive 20 miles to eat there. There are plenty of options in C-ville. Mosquito Fleet for breakfast or lunch, Knead & Feed is another option. No visit to Whidbey island is complete without a stop in Toby's Tavern for mussels or a burger. You may wish to substitute Christophers for the Front Street Grill. The owners of the Grill have not quite gotten their act together, but Christophers never disappoints.

The pizza place is Ciao, not Naples Pizza. It's excellent!

Another option is Thai at the Cove, across the street from Ciao, if you are looking for something different.

Naples Pizza on Whidbey Island

Yes, we Coupevillans are thrilled with Ciao!

btw: Mark built his own lava brick oven with material he brought back with him from Napoli.

Umami Burger, Studio City

I tried to go, I was willing to put up with the 15 minute wait, but could not stand the volume of the music so I passed and went to IN/Out! Lousy burger, but at least I did not damage my eardrums!

Mt. Vernon, WA

Good news, you do not have to endure dining at Bamboo Garden any more! There is a new Chinese Buffet - The Four Seasons. It's on Burlington Blvd, across from the Mall, next to Pier One. It is large, clean and has lots of choices, including sushi and grill.

The Five Point

This bar is listed in the book, "The 150 Best bars in the USA", as the country's best "dive" bar! Apparently there is an all-day breakfast menu. How are the breakfasts?

I saw the unami Burger on the Food Channel last night. Is it as good as it looks?

yes, the food is good and its a nice friendly family place.

Off The Beaten Path In Palm Springs

Sherman's is reliably mediocre. For Mexican fare try Pueblo Viejo. Also, on Thursday nights Palm Springs has a street fair with several good food vendors. I particularly liked the Guatamalan one.

Billy Reeds is a bit old fashioned but is worth the trip.

I've heard good things about Cheeky's for breakfast. It must be good because every time I tried to go the lines were too long for my impatient significant other.

avoid this buffet

The buffet at the Four Feathers Casino in Canyonville, OR is a huge rip-off! The food does not measure up to a high school cafeteria.
