William Sonoma Rich & Creamy Hot Chocolate (Seasonal)

Thanks for your reply - Yes, exactly just that tin. We have the regular chocolate one, and really don't know what to do.

They don't seem to have that product listed on their site anymore, since it's seasonal. What a bummer!

William Sonoma Rich & Creamy Hot Chocolate (Seasonal)

The tin of William Sonoma Rich & Creamy Hot Chocolate is still sitting in our pantry. Can't say we're a fan. Maybe we weren't using enough chocolate to milk, or maybe we need to add sugar?

Anyways, I was thinking of baking cookies or desserts with it. Can I just melt it to use it in a recipe? Anyone care to give a non-baker some directions?

Calgary farmers market? Is it worth it?

Thanks for sharing about Crossroads Market - first time hearing about it.
Do they have an abundance of fresh produce?

Bringing your packed meals to the food court mall

So, you're at the food court. Yes, there are an array of choices for you to chow down. But is it okay to bring your own packed meal and eat it at the public food court mall? Or is this a big no-no?

I can understand not to bring your own meal into a restaurant. But the food court at the mall is kind of fair grounds, right?

Just wanted to ask how the CSA turned out.
I'm looking to jump on board to one of these this upcoming September.

6lb bag of granny smith apples; all brown

So I went to Costco, and had purchased a bulk bag of granny smith apples. And to my surprise, thus far, the apples are all brown inside. Some of them not too too bad, but they aren't crisp and look like they are at the end of their toll. They seemed to look find on the outside though. Oh well.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can do with these browning apples?
And any heads up as to how I can avoid this for next time? They really did look fine and were firm to the touch when I purchased them. Maybe it was just bad luck.

Red Deer: butcher, baker...

And please share what things you find once you come to Red Deer. I'm looking to go to the Farmers Market to get more of my produce, rather than the usual massive haul from Costco. But then again, I go through fresh fruits pretty fast.

Red Deer: butcher, baker...

There is a Big Bend Market up in South Point Common that sells meat, if you are into that. I think bison and buffalo? I have actually never been there before, but drive by it from time to time.

Organic/Health Stores in Calgary (NE)

Oh right, completely forgot that they are situated in Vancouver and Toronto!

+1 for Trader Joes. I think their chalk board signs are awesome.

Organic/Health Stores in Calgary (NE)

Oh yes to Shoppers Drug Mart, completely forgot about that. They are having sales on their Nativa Organic products this week as well. And I've noticed they have other organic products here and there on their shelves, so thanks for reminding me on that.

I've noticed that they are starting to introduce some more organic items into the Sunridge Superstore, which is good too.

Anyways, I do wish that Whole Foods was available in Canada. I have heard great things about the 365 product line.

Favorite sugar cereal? :)

Chocolate lucky charms are delicious. I can mindlessly munch on those like no tomorrow. Resse Peanut Butter cereal are amazing as well. And Oatmeal Crisp is delicious! Oh, there are so many delicious sugar-loaded cereals that I could consume day in and day out. Cereal isn't just for breakfast for me.

desserts a lot of people do not like but you do?

I love warm muffins - double chocolate chip muffins!

As for desserts that I don't like, I don't like cheesecake or pies.

Tempeh in Calgary

I wasn't able to find it there either. Only tofu, which I don't mind at all, since I stock up like mad on those. But I have always wondered what tempeh tasted like and wanted to get a go with it.

Tempeh in Calgary

I'm interested in trying tempeh, and I am not sure where exactly to find it. Looking through nearby grocery stores, such as Safeway and Superstore, I didn't see it on the store shelves.

Anyone know where exactly I can get it?
Preferably somewhere in the NE (Marlborough Area), if not, anywhere is fine, I guess?

What are good places for a bite to eat in Red Deer?

I don't like The Noodle House. The pho is just bland and doesn't have any flavour.

Sub buns, brands?

I can't seem to find any good sub buns to recreate the subs from either Subway, Quiznos, or even the Safeway Lumberjack sub! I can only seemingly find Villaggio Buns, which I don't really like. Anyone have any recommendations to recreate those Subway subs?

Maybe I am not adding enough sauce into the mix or cheese, but starting off with a good sub bun would be nice! Anyone care to share their favorite bun brand?

I second this. Ginger Beef is where my friends recommended when I first came to Calgary. Really good stuff!

Organic/Health Stores in Calgary (NE)

Just a follow up on things.

I ended up not really finding any Organic products at the Safeway at the TransCanada Mall. I ended up going to Planet Organic in the South end instead. Totally worth the drive there!

In the freezer isle, quick meals...

I've actually never had crab cakes before! Definitely will look out for them when I am in the freezer section now. I like imitation crab if that counts? It must sound like a sin.

In the freezer isle, quick meals...

Frozen vegetables!

I am not a big fan of onions, so I think I'll pass on them. But definitely will do the frozen vegetables in omelets. I usually just use cheese on hand when I have it for omelets, and so vegetables will be a great addition to it! As silly as this sound, you can obviously tell I am new to cooking!

In the freezer isle, quick meals...

Wow, thanks for the suggestion. I actually might do that.

I had inquired about any trial memberships, and they don't offer any.
