Thanks, looks great, ended up at Primitivo tonight but looking forward to giving 26 beach a try!
Servorg - you got me, though CC downtown is pretty close to the 10 :)

Great new places, old favorites? Looking for $18-$28 entrees, great food, no sushi/korean/chinese - love it, just not tonight.
Looking west of La Cienega, north of the 10, south of Ventura, east of the ocean (thanks das ubergeek). Any good new places in Culver City downtown?
thanks!
Give up on Studio City/Ventura?? a few good spots
Thanks for the great suggestions. I like Aroma, had completely forgotten about it. The food is fine, and it's a great outdoor setting. The desserts are tremendous.
Sounds like there are some good lebanese places in the area, I'll definitely try them.
Actually went to Don Sasabune for takeout - exactly the kind of sushi I was looking for. Will try Miya Sushi as well.
Spumoni and Mistral seem to come up pretty often, wondering if anyone has eaten at either recently?
thanks, great board.

Places I like in LA: Lou on Vine, Cheebo, Cynthias, Little Door, LaLa's, Bossa Nova, In 'n Out. Not really a true gourmet :)
So, I've spent some time on these boards, and have tried a few of the recommendations in the Ventura/Studio City area - here are two that I like:
Firefly - the only place I'd go back to. A couple good dishes, good atmosphere, nice spot overall
Artisan Cheese Gallary - tuna melt panini - seriously, just order it. Fantastic!
Otherwise,
Ca de Sole, Cafe bijou, la loggia, etc: I didn't find anything interesting about these places, and some actual bad experiences - sand in the spinach, bad-tasting short ribs - have pretty much turned me off completely to trying more of these types of restaurants in the area.
Please no sushi recommendations, unless you know of an inexpensive place that has high quality, very fresh raw fish. I enjoy sushi but absolutely don't have the passion for it to justify the prices for non-expense account dinners :) I like some sushi places in LA, and have tried katsu-ya and nurasawa (sp?) over here. I know there are some fantastically knowledgeable sushi/japanse people on this board, unfortunately just pearls before swine in my case...
I'm not looking for local 'greasy' places, pretty much got that covered with In 'n out, Papa Johns (thin crust only), and Hugo's.
Suggestions appreciated! I keep hoping this area has some gems, but can't seem to find them. Will try Palate in Glendale, seems to have gotten some good reviews. Would love to find some good Korean BBQ or pho in the area. Maybe we just need to commit to the drive to get good food...
dinner recs near Santa Monica Blvd & Vine
I'd recommend Lou - a great little restaurant, always some interesting wines, not high-end but one of my favorite restaurants in LA. Be aware, it doesn't look like anything at all from outside.

Happy hour in Burbank that won't kill me - impossible request, it's challenge!!
I'll second Granville - they updated their menu in the last couple of months and the hh food is decent and reasonably priced. Very disappointed to see that Minibar closed!
Belize Caye Caulker Ambergris report
Hey, spent a week in Belize last month, and thought I'd post a short report here before I forget.
We spent half the time on Caye Caulker, and half the time on Ambergris, mostly in San Pedro.
In Caye Caulker, the roadside BBQ is a great deal, and worth having. We ate at Rose's BBQ a few times, right up the street from Habanero's. They have chicken and shrimp, and will often have fresh caught fish like grouper, barracuda, and so on - always worth asking.
Of the more traditional restaurants, we ate at, in order of quality, Habanero's, Agave, and Don Corleone.
Habanero's was probably the best meal we had on the island - the food was good but not exceptional. Had a coconut crusted snapper that was quite good. We ate at Agave, which again was good but not exceptional. They absolutely have the best rum punch we had on Caye Caulker, however, and some of their specials were good. I'm listing Don Corleone third - it definitely was not bad, just not memorable, which is not surprising for an Italian restaurant in that part of the world. The food was forgettable, but it was fun to eat in that type of restaurant, such a contrast to the primary culture in the area, and they had a nice little wine list.
That pretty much covers it for Caye Caulker. For me, the best bet was a fresh piece of grilled fish with rice and beans and some vegetables. The 'nicer' restaurants are ok but nothing exceptional. There are a few restaurants built out over the water, great spot but the food was not great. If they'll let you, order a couple of drinks and bring out some roadside bbq - great view and great food!
Ambergris Caye, and particularly San Pedro, offers many more options. The best meal we had was at Capricorn, which is north of San Pedro and requires a water taxi if you are staying in San Pedro. However - absolutely worth going to. A beautiful setting right on the beach, and the grouper special, as someone else mentioned, is a must-have.
Also, Wild Mangoes in San Pedro is excellent. On the beach, and their banana/chocolate/ice cream/tortilla dessert is fantastic.
Other small, local places in San Pedro that we really enjoyed -- DandE frozen custard - great dessert. The Reef - popular with locals, and great for lunch. Also, not exactly a food recommendation, but for a different experience, rent a golf cart and drive north over the bridge to the Beach'n'Kitchen - there's a bar here built over a pier - great view and a completely different experience.
Had a great time in Belize, and some good food - glad to provide more details! Have a great trip if you go.
