Thanks Pam. Been to Jimtown Store but not going that direction this time, staying west. Will check it out.

Six people ... help! [San Francisco]

Thanks all. Ended up able to get a table at Pesce. Not first choice but it is hard to find something for six before 8:30 p.m.

Love posts like this, fun. Can you recommend good deli/picnic fare in Healdsburg?

Six people ... help! [San Francisco]

Meeting family/friends. We are staying downtown, anywhere on light rail/bart is good. Physical disabilities prevent long walks, we are older. Places I would love to have gone but we can't get a reservation: Rich Table, Cotogna, Frances.

Places we've been that we'd prefer not to repeat (we are not in SF enough to try all the places) Coco500, Foreign Cinema, La Ciccia, Piperade, Perbacco, Delfina's.

Doesn't have to be incredibly upscale/expensive, in fact something good that takes reservations on transit and where we can hear ourselves (can't at Town Hall?) is good.

Any suggestions appreciated. Thank you.

Michael Bauer's top 100 2013

Certainly agree on its influence. As one who travels to San Francisco frequently I read the Chronicle, along with posts here, etc. etc., to make wise dining choices. As an out of towner I am not going to subscribe to the paper just for the restaurant news and reviews. I have found Lauriston notes more valuable than Bauer anyway. On the other hand I don't understand the vitriol some readers express over Michael Bauer. So you disagree/have a different palate? So what? Find reviewers who share your views and follow their recommendations.

Sunday in Nashville

Really, just down home, things that reflect the city, the local foods or cooking. I'm from Portland, I would recommend cedar plank salmon while you are here, for example and things with local strawberries, and pinot noir. They are things we do well. I like to eat things that reflect the cooking and/or ingredients Nashville is known for, if that is possible. Doesn't have to be elegant, we like both innovative chefs who do marvelous things with local food, and, for example, crummy bars in New Mexico with great green chile pepper burgers. Thanks to all for the help.

Sunday in Nashville

We have one night in Nashville, a Sunday, and would like an experience or food that is unique to your city or state - either that night or in the morning before we leave! Any ideas appreciated.

What is "The Real Arizona Deal"

What is the classic Arizona food experience? We are traveling through next month ... driving roughly from Phoenix to Tucson, Bisbee, up to New Mexico, Superstition Mountains ... could add places. What would be the quintessential Arizona experience, divey or upscale, perhaps the signature Arizona dish(es). Thanks for any help!

Wine dinners in the city? A list?

Thanks for your reply. It's funny you didn't read my post when you spent so much time replying. I'm not looking for 'now' I even said it was in November. I was/am looking for a blog or place that lists wine dinners at restaurants and wineries. But thanks for the effort.

Real New Jersey experience

From Philly to New York we are stopping for tomato pie in Trenton, which I gather from this board is a 'real New Jersey deal.'

Driving from New York, sort of down the coast to Cape May in September, then over to Wilmington. Are there food experiences that are signature to New Jersey, foods/beverages/food stands we shouldn't miss?

We will have lunch and dinner along the coast, I see praise for Red Bank and Asbury Park where we could eat lunch. What about south to Cape May? Packaged foods we should take home to the west coast? We want the full New Jersey food experience! Thank for any help.

Wine dinners in the city? A list?

You are right, it is up to the restaurants to report. But I find it hard to believe there is not a single wine event in San Francisco over the next couple of weeks. If the restaurants/winemakers are not listing then the resource isn't very complete. So I was hoping there was something else.

Wine dinners in the city? A list?

We are frequent visitors to San Francisco and enjoy doing wine dinners. We'll be there again the first week of November.

I realize that is four months away, but if you know of any dinners, or WHERE TO FIND A LIST of dinners please let me know.

I know of Gayot and Local Wine Events, neither of which seems to really have very complete listings. We like anything from winemakers visiting restaurants to fundraisers - although some of those are too expensive for our wallet. Thanks!

Sunday night reasonable downtown? Breakfast?

Sounds great and maybe we'll try it when we return to Philly a week later. But after 8 hours flying we probably don't want to sit down for a five-course meal. Looking for something casual.

Sunday night reasonable downtown? Breakfast?

We will Priceline a downtown hotel when it gets closer, not until summer. Sunday night 4-star hotels are around $50 everywhere we've done it (SF, Seattle, Miami, Cleveland, Chicago, etc.). So wherever the Marriotts etc. are is where we'll be. We'll have a car. Expensive? We don't want a destination dining experience, we're tired, we just want to eat, we want good wine. I don't know what price to put on it. We have a lot of great Thai on the left coast so we'd skip that. Thanks.

Sunday night reasonable downtown? Breakfast?

We arrive Sunday night, staying downtown, looooong flight in but arriving around 6 p.m.

We won't want fancy/expensive just good food with a decent bottle of wine. We eat anything except shellfish (allergic). (Please, something local, no chains.)

Also, how about breakfast downtown the next morning? Neither of us has been to Philadelphia before, so we know nothin'. Thanks for any suggestions.

Final choices for Portland this weekend, critiques welcome

New: Little Bird, Rucker's new place near your hotel. Also St. Jack's in Clinton. Also June (must have reservation) a block or two from Le Pigeon. I agree with Mark Bittman and much prefer Toro Bravo to Le Pigeon, it's worth the wait. Saturday lunch, food carts, maybe Violetta although if I'm eating that rich at night I want something simple. Dessert: Chocolate souffle at Veritable Quandary. OT: Also going on right now, Portland Int'l Film Festival during rainy days, with venues near your hotel.

Lunch at Evoe, perhaps the best in the city, but only open for lunch. Also June, hard to find on E. Burnside.

Nostrana or DOC?

I much prefer Nostrana. I have been to DOC twice, one time was a big disappointment, one time was great. More expensive than Nostrana. Knock on Nostrana has been service but I've never had a problem, probably been there six or eight times. Also, DOC is romantic but not nearly as casual as Nostrana.

Early Peninsula Dinner - Cupertino to the Airport

Wow, these are great! We are coming down out of the mountains from Ridge Winery (they close at 4) and our flight leaves at 8:20. We'll have a hard time picking between the Chinese places, Pedro's, Buck's, Woodside Pub ... thank you very much.

Early Peninsula Dinner - Cupertino to the Airport

Ending a week of wine tasting on a Saturday, coming out of the Santa Cruz Mountains around 4:30 or 5, have to be at SFO at 7. Help? Help! Obviously not looking for high dining, but something decent, any cuisine.

Best pub/casual near the ball park anyone?

Bunch of us old cranky guys goin' to the Mariner's game on a weeknight, so is there good pub food with good beer and at least decent glass of wine near the park? Some of us get even crankier when we don't eat well. Thanks.

Sunday lunch in Louisville

The only meal we'll have in town, and would love something that is "the real Louisville experience." Want good food yes, but really want a Kentucky/Louisville place, something you'd find no where else perhaps, an institution (?) or ... well, if I knew what it was I'd say so. I know of the hot brown, and we may do that, but if there is something else we should know about, please share. Thank you.
