What is "The Real Arizona Deal"

What is the classic Arizona food experience? We are traveling through next month ... driving roughly from Phoenix to Tucson, Bisbee, up to New Mexico, Superstition Mountains ... could add places. What would be the quintessential Arizona experience, divey or upscale, perhaps the signature Arizona dish(es). Thanks for any help!

Wine dinners in the city? A list?

Thanks for your reply. It's funny you didn't read my post when you spent so much time replying. I'm not looking for 'now' I even said it was in November. I was/am looking for a blog or place that lists wine dinners at restaurants and wineries. But thanks for the effort.

Real New Jersey experience

From Philly to New York we are stopping for tomato pie in Trenton, which I gather from this board is a 'real New Jersey deal.'

Driving from New York, sort of down the coast to Cape May in September, then over to Wilmington. Are there food experiences that are signature to New Jersey, foods/beverages/food stands we shouldn't miss?

We will have lunch and dinner along the coast, I see praise for Red Bank and Asbury Park where we could eat lunch. What about south to Cape May? Packaged foods we should take home to the west coast? We want the full New Jersey food experience! Thank for any help.

Wine dinners in the city? A list?

You are right, it is up to the restaurants to report. But I find it hard to believe there is not a single wine event in San Francisco over the next couple of weeks. If the restaurants/winemakers are not listing then the resource isn't very complete. So I was hoping there was something else.

Wine dinners in the city? A list?

We are frequent visitors to San Francisco and enjoy doing wine dinners. We'll be there again the first week of November.

I realize that is four months away, but if you know of any dinners, or WHERE TO FIND A LIST of dinners please let me know.

I know of Gayot and Local Wine Events, neither of which seems to really have very complete listings. We like anything from winemakers visiting restaurants to fundraisers - although some of those are too expensive for our wallet. Thanks!

Sunday night reasonable downtown? Breakfast?

Sounds great and maybe we'll try it when we return to Philly a week later. But after 8 hours flying we probably don't want to sit down for a five-course meal. Looking for something casual.

Sunday night reasonable downtown? Breakfast?

We will Priceline a downtown hotel when it gets closer, not until summer. Sunday night 4-star hotels are around $50 everywhere we've done it (SF, Seattle, Miami, Cleveland, Chicago, etc.). So wherever the Marriotts etc. are is where we'll be. We'll have a car. Expensive? We don't want a destination dining experience, we're tired, we just want to eat, we want good wine. I don't know what price to put on it. We have a lot of great Thai on the left coast so we'd skip that. Thanks.

Sunday night reasonable downtown? Breakfast?

We arrive Sunday night, staying downtown, looooong flight in but arriving around 6 p.m.

We won't want fancy/expensive just good food with a decent bottle of wine. We eat anything except shellfish (allergic). (Please, something local, no chains.)

Also, how about breakfast downtown the next morning? Neither of us has been to Philadelphia before, so we know nothin'. Thanks for any suggestions.

What happened to the Good River Restaurant in Mosier?

I see it is now a pub? Is it the same chef?

Final choices for Portland this weekend, critiques welcome

New: Little Bird, Rucker's new place near your hotel. Also St. Jack's in Clinton. Also June (must have reservation) a block or two from Le Pigeon. I agree with Mark Bittman and much prefer Toro Bravo to Le Pigeon, it's worth the wait. Saturday lunch, food carts, maybe Violetta although if I'm eating that rich at night I want something simple. Dessert: Chocolate souffle at Veritable Quandary. OT: Also going on right now, Portland Int'l Film Festival during rainy days, with venues near your hotel.

Anyone tried the paella at Petsico?

They have a paella night once a month on Sunday. Anyone been? Thank you. The should have read Petisco.

Fave new places?

Lunch at Evoe, perhaps the best in the city, but only open for lunch. Also June, hard to find on E. Burnside.

Nostrana or DOC?

I much prefer Nostrana. I have been to DOC twice, one time was a big disappointment, one time was great. More expensive than Nostrana. Knock on Nostrana has been service but I've never had a problem, probably been there six or eight times. Also, DOC is romantic but not nearly as casual as Nostrana.

Early Peninsula Dinner - Cupertino to the Airport

Thanks, always like your recommendations Robert.

Early Peninsula Dinner - Cupertino to the Airport

Wow, these are great! We are coming down out of the mountains from Ridge Winery (they close at 4) and our flight leaves at 8:20. We'll have a hard time picking between the Chinese places, Pedro's, Buck's, Woodside Pub ... thank you very much.

Early Peninsula Dinner - Cupertino to the Airport

Ending a week of wine tasting on a Saturday, coming out of the Santa Cruz Mountains around 4:30 or 5, have to be at SFO at 7. Help? Help! Obviously not looking for high dining, but something decent, any cuisine.

Best pub/casual near the ball park anyone?

Bunch of us old cranky guys goin' to the Mariner's game on a weeknight, so is there good pub food with good beer and at least decent glass of wine near the park? Some of us get even crankier when we don't eat well. Thanks.

Anacortes WA - Good Eats Before Ferry ?

Any bakeries or good coffee early in Anacortes?

The Quintessential Indianapolis

Thank you all so much, great stuff, never get to them all but exactly what I wanted. Thank you again.

Sunday lunch in Louisville

Thanks for all these. I had heard of Lily's but they are closed on Sunday, the one day we are in town.

Sunday lunch in Louisville

The only meal we'll have in town, and would love something that is "the real Louisville experience." Want good food yes, but really want a Kentucky/Louisville place, something you'd find no where else perhaps, an institution (?) or ... well, if I knew what it was I'd say so. I know of the hot brown, and we may do that, but if there is something else we should know about, please share. Thank you.

1st time to Portland, need food/day trip suggestions please

Good to know that Nick "knows" why "everyone" has stopped posting here, must have been quite a process doing all those interviews! I stopped for quite a while because it is too repetitive and not all that interesting.

Irving Street Kitchen - 1st impressions

You are so right. How does Gorham do that? I went to Tasty three times, including opening day. Almost perfect. Toro Bravo continues to shine.

Thanks, these look interesting, we'll definitely check them out whether we eat there or not -- like to see old time places. The corkage thing is a real shame, and you'll never change it with the power of the restaurant associations. Your idea for a good restaurant for a glass of wine is probably best. I was in Indianapolis only once, twenty years ago.

The Quintessential Indianapolis

Thanks, but I looked through those before I posted. I guess there isn't any "real Indy" place. Wasn't looking for the best food places, nor upscale, but a real Indy-only food experience. In Cleveland there are old school Hungarian joints with live polka, in Minneapolis Scandanavian bars sitting alongside Ole and Lena, but I don't find anything inherently Indianapolis. A look at restaurants near the Sheraton via Google Maps shows chain, chain, chain with a franchise or two thrown in. Just wanted something unusual. Thank you for trying. I might try some in the post below. Thanks again.

The Quintessential Indianapolis

What is the essence of Indy? The one "Classic Indy" place that one should see, old school maybe, food so so but at least go in? Been there forever? Standard Indy? I don't know what we are asking for because I don't know what is there. We are in the city for one night, staying downtown, have a car. Boards seem to have plenty of discussion of the best, seems to be good places on Massachusetts Avenue, so we can find good food, but what is truly Indy food and ambiance? (Any tips on a good glass of wine downtown and coffee are deeply appreciated too.)

Now THIS is Cincinnati! Here is the real deal ...

Have just one day of my life in Cincinnati and I don't need a French restaurant or sushi, I want THE Cincinnati experience, THE quintessential Cincinnati joint whatever the food is, we eat anything, dinner, breakfast ... whatever. What is old school or new school or down home or The Cincinnati Institution? I don't know what I'm looking for but I'll bet you can tell me. We will be downtown with a car. Thank you!

Recommended eating spots in Indy that showcase the city and region

My two cents: Thanks for that. We are visiting from Oregon wine country, in June, and wine is very important to us. Appreciate the tip.

The "Full Cleveland" Where?

Exactly what I wanted! Thanks. We don't have a Sokolowskis or Sterle's or Luckys etc. in Portland, Oregon and although we can't eat in them all, we'll walk in and see them for sure. They look like Cleveland only places. I'll look at the recommendations for the best restaurants named, since my friend and I do not like to waste a meal on average food! So very much appreciated.

The "Full Cleveland" Where?

In town for one Monday evening and Tuesday morning in June. I want The Full Cleveland; that is not the best restaurants for dinner and breakfast, but the ones that are the "most Cleveland" whatever that is. Unique to Cleveland? Classic Cleveland? Down home Cleveland? Dive Cleveland style? Food only found in Cleveland? I dunno, but maybe a native can help me out here. I want to experience Cleveland, not something I can find anywhere else. Thank you very much for any ideas!
