sarahdowni is the birthday girl. She is asking for Indian or Very good Italian. I don't want to surprise her - she wouldn't like that. :) She wants to be involved in the pick :)

She loves pretty much anything. I know this is not very specific - but she really does.

15 hours in the city.

Before. No specific cuisine. Just something fun for a birthday.

Willing to plan around so doesn't matter where. Thanks for the other info.

This is Saturday, June 11.

15 hours in the city.

I am going on a whirlwind red eye bus trip to the city. I've been numerous times but I want to try to hit a couple great places while we are there.

We are celebrating my sister's birthday so a moderate place for dinner would be great. $30 or less per person.

Maybe a little food tour for lunch? 3 - 4 stops? Including a dessert - please no Magnolia Bakery, it's overrated in my opinion.

Thanks!

Vegetarian - HELP

Awesome - thanks for such a great post kathryn!

Vegetarian - HELP

Traveling to the city in November with a strict vegetarian. Staying in midtown on 32nd near 5th Ave. Will be roaming all over. Need lunch and dinner options. Lunch - under $20, Dinner - under $30 a plate. Really want to show her a great first time in the city. Thanks!

Momofuku Bakery - Milk Bar - what to eat

How about any of the non - dessert items? Any suggestions?

Momofuku Bakery - Milk Bar - what to eat

Love the sweet/salty combo - as for just plain salty, my husband likes it but i'm not a huge fan.

Momofuku Bakery - Milk Bar - what to eat

OK- so everything on the menu looks amazing but I need to narrow my selections down. Any suggestions? I know the pork buns are definitely on the list as well as the crack pie, but as you can see I think I could get over loaded very quickly and with at best only getting one visit on this trip....

Best Pizza Joints in Columbus

Good Heavens - Adriaticos is the best in the city - hands down. But to categorize it:

Adriaticos - best silician, not to mention great breadsticks
Grandad's - best thin crust
Flying Pizza (aka Fly Pie) - best New York slice

Figlio is good too - but also agree can't really be "a pizza joint" - but they would win best specialty

Sugar-free please!

He is type 1 - and he has a pump. Sometimes the pump helps, other times it doesn't. I really appreciate all the responses. Not sure if this will help but some examples of desserts he does eat are: sugar-free pudding, sugar-free pumpkin pie and I'm made him sugar-free cookies - but all were made with Sweet & Low.

You're right though moderation is the key.

Sugar-free please!

Awesome - Thanks!

Sugar-free please!

He can eat substitutes like Sweet & Low - but no Splenda. Haven't tried stevia or nutra that I know of. He can eat fruit in raw form - but thats it.

Sugar-free please!

Right - I know agave nectar won't worked for him. Neither does Splenda - trust me. I just wasn't sure if there was any place that specialized in this type of dessert. If not - thats ok too, just wanted to check.

Sugar-free please!

Need to find place with great sugar-free dessert options. Father-in-law can't even eat Splenda as a substitute. He doesn't often get to try any fun desserts b/c of he diabetes so I'm hoping NYC can knock his socks off. Please Help!

Dinner in Koreatown

Staying on 32nd and want a great dinner near by - nothing too off the wall... (under $25 a person)

Find me some Dim Sum

After several NYC visits I have yet to get any Dim Sum - I'm not an overly adventurous eater but I would really love to try this on my upcoming visit. Help stir me in the right direction! Thanks!

Cols near 71 - help?

Do you have to stop at that exit?

Magnolia's Really IS That Bad

They really are bad - I prefer their Banana pudding. :)

Disney Quick Service Meals

I already have my table service meals reserved. I was just looking for tips on quick service. I know quick service isn't going to be the best food - but it's part of the dining plan so I have to use it.

Here is my other post on my table service selections: http://www.chowhound.com/topics/519184#3687427

Thanks for your advice though! :)

Disney Quick Service Meals

Thanks!

Disney Quick Service Meals

Not really buffets but counter service. I just wasn't sure how varied some of the counter service locations are and I wanted to try something new...

Disney Quick Service Meals

Kinda boring, I know - but any recommendations for Quick Service Meals using the Disney Dining Plan?

Thanks!

Help me eat like a local!

Any specific Koreatown joints? I'm interested in trying some Korean food - but I'm not too daring if I don't know a little about a certain place ya know?

Disney Dinner/lunch

My family is planning a trip to Disney this August and I just thought I'd try to get any opinions on restaurants we have already made reservations for.

Cinderella's Royal Table - Dinner
'Ohana - Dinner
Biergarten Restaurant - Dinner
Teppanyaki Dining Room (Tepan Edo? I think is the new name) - Dinner
Brown Derby - Lunch

All comments and suggestions are welcome! Thanks!

Help me eat like a local!

Thank you all for so many great suggestions.

Another question I have though is about the Soft Shell Crab at Perilla - we are going for Brunch and does anyone know if they offer the appetizers at brunch also? If not - is there a great seafood place in Midtown that offers them? That is my mom's only request is to have SSC at some point in the trip.

Staying near Herald Square....

1 - Italian, Middle Eastern, Chinese, Mexican
2 - I'm willing to go all over (not to continue the broad aspect of this discussion). I'm willing to go anywhere if the food is interesting and worth the trip. This was my previous post: http://www.chowhound.com/topics/514935

I was hoping to just got some varied reponse from this one (There was a little to much back and worth about Crispo and Babbo - i think people got distracted ;))

This is going to make me sound pathetic but only 4 people are in my group. I just find it stressful being the only that will know where I'm going. I like to be prepared. But if I stumble across something good then thats great too!

Staying near Herald Square....

Not really no - I am just trying to get a list together of different places so that when I get there I can find what everyone wants to eat. Ya know?

I've never gone with a group of people this size that know nothing about the city - so it's just me with the directions and restaurant ideas. Does that make sense? :)

Thank you for the response! Great suggestions!
