"Healthy" food around Radio City?
I'm going to a show at Radio City tonight & my friend & I would like to eat something a little on the healthier side, but nothing too expensive. I'm just having a brain fart as to what's around there.
Any suggestions?
I'd be down for salads, though anything a little more creative would be nice. It doesn't have to be like, crazy macrobiotic healthy though. Just something on the lighter side. Basically, we've just been doing too many burger & fries meals (not that there's anything wrong with that!).
Brewpubs in Manhattan?
Cool, thanks. I should say that I was looking for something more casual for this occasion, but I'm taking note of all the suggestions for future references.
Tasty Sandwiches near 50th Street & Bway
My suggestions may be a bit out of the way, as I work much further west in Midtown, but I don't think you can beat Cafe Olé on 54th Street, right off 10th Ave. (It's tiny & I don't think they deliver though.)
There's Say Cheese on 9th Ave between 45th & 46th, too.
There's also Sandwich Planet on 9th Ave between 39th & 40th. Can't go wrong with them. And they definitely deliver.
Brewpubs in Manhattan?
Good point about Fette Sau! I have been meaning to check it out. I wasn't thinking Brooklyn, but I'll definitely consider it.
Brewpubs in Manhattan?
Yeah, thanks. I was thinking of Blind Tiger. I actually haven't been to the new location yet. And I've never had their food when I was there, but it looks like a decent menu. (Same with Ginger Man- I've only been there for the beer.)
Brewpubs in Manhattan?
My brothers are coming into town later this month & I wanted to take them to a brewpub for lunch or dinner. Only thing is, I can't really think of any!
I do love Chelsea Brewing Company, but I've taken them there before (& it's kind of out of the way). Plus, while I love their beer, the food leaves a little to be desired.
Then I thought of Heartland Brewery (we'll be near one of their locations). I've only been there for their beer (which I like), but I've never eaten there. Is the food any good? Or is like, chain-y?
If anyone can recommend another place, with good beer (they don't necessarily have to brew their own) & good food, it'd be appreciated!
What to do with lots of black twizzlers?
I know this thread is over 3 years old, but I came across it doing a search & what the hell-- I thought I'd add my two cents.
You most definitely can infuse the Twizzler's in vodka. They actually do that with red Twizzler's at one of the hotel bars in Hershey Park. I've done it myself at home, too. I'm sure black licorice Twizzler's would work just as well... (though I'd prefer the stawberry!)
contemporary Mexican
I love Rocking Horse, but I'm not familiar with the others you mentioned. I also like El Centro in Hell's Kitchen (54th & 9th), but it's on the small side.
life altering sandwiches
I think Crosby Connection is closed on Sundays though. (But I've been trying to try their meatball hero!)
NYC food-related Mother's Day gifts? (Shippable)
Any recommendations for great food-related Mother's Day gifts from vendors in the city? I'm looking for something I can ship (to PA). Levain's is usually my standby, but I'm looking to branch out a bit. I always feel like baked goods make the best food-gifts, but I won't limit myself to that.
I'm about to just order coffee & a coffee cake from Zingerman's, based on strong recommendations from a friend, but I'd like to see if find something else from NYC first... something fun, maybe a little different & of great quality. That way it'd seem like it's coming more from [my] home.
Otherwise, Zingerman's (although pricey) seems to be the way to go. On an unrelated note, anyone have anything else to add about them?
Where do the locals eat pre-theater?
I'm not seeing my suggestion showing up, but I meant to say that I go to Eatery often, on 53rd & 9th. It's my Midtown West standby... not just for pre-theater, but for anytime, really!
DYING for good Chinese on the UWS...
I posted a response to a similar thread the other day, but didn't realize it was from so long ago. I just thought I'd start a new one, since so many places have mysteriously closed in the last couple years....
My friend & I both live on the UWS (70's & 80's) & we've been on a desperate hunt for a good Chinese restaurant ever since Hunan Park closed. (One mainly for delivery & take-out.)
Here are some places we DON'T like:
The Cottage
Ivy's Cafe
Lime Leaf
Ollie's
Empire Szechuan Kyoto
I found these places to be either bland, greasy and/or having meat of substandard quality (what my friends & I call "spare parts chicken," for example).
Any good suggestions?!
Help me eat like a local!
I'm not sure how people feel about S'MAC or Supermac (since I'm kind of new to this site), but I think the mac & cheese places are a fun, inexpensive way to go for a cheap lunch or for a snack. It may not be SO local-y, but it's a novel idea (it definitely caught my brother's interest from Boston).
For the record, I haven't been to Supermac, but I've been to S'MAC numerous times. I was underwhelmed with the LES location when it first opened, but I gave them another shot when they moved to my 'hood-- the UWS-- & now I love them.
Best Chinese Delivery on UWS
Hear, hear! The Cottage is WAY bland & WAY overrated. I've been looking for a decent place on the UWS since Hunan Park closed. While I haven't found a worthy replacement, I can tell you what's NOT good: Ivy's Cafe, Lime Leaf, Ollie's & Empire Szechuan Kyoto.
