Calgary Restarurant Closures - Say it Ain't So!!

Oops, my bad!

Calgary Restarurant Closures - Say it Ain't So!!

This article might be of interest. "Fully refunded" to me means full food value, not the amount you paid.

dinner YYC Sunday

Buon Giorno has parking in the back, but I am not sure how fast it fills up. I am guessing there are about 15 spots?

dinner YYC Sunday

Buon Giorno has two steps to get in, so it may not be wheelchair accessible [and would not be at all if the person uses a power chair].

Horizons Meats

3500 deals bought with 6 hours to go. Secret's out indeed!

Not so sure it's good for Horizon Meats though.

But Dealfind is laughing all the way to the bank.

Calgary Groupons: Anyone use them?

The deal is actually for the restaurant at 739 2nd Avenue SW, not the 12th Ave SW Mirchi. The two restaurants are related I think.

Calgary: All You Can Eat Week?

I'm guessing the all caps means snide chain yank.

But I thank you for the link. And I like your Q1 and Q2 idea.

Una Pizza (Calgary)

What's wrong with pglenn's opinion?

ISO Julia Child's "mashing fork", for lack of a better term

I think this is the fork you are referring to, starting at :20. Julia on David Letterman, back in the day.

Sociale...

LOL

From the website:

"Occupying the beautifully restored,[sic] century old Lougheed Building.[sic] Sociale sits at the epicenter of corporate Calgary."

It's obvious they are trolling for the corporate accounts, and the hangers on.

But don't despair, "House Filtered Sparkling or Still Water Unlimited Refills $2"

Take that bottle service!

San Marzano Tomatoes in Calgary?

I bought a case of Rega San Marzano tomatoes at The Italian Supermarket [20th Ave/Edmonton Trail] today. $4.19 per can, $45.25 per case with 10% case discount. They have another brand of San Marzanos too.

Bernard Callebaut new company: Papa Chocolat

The Herald has got it wrong [yet again]. Callebaut doesn't have the start up capital. From the Podium Ventures website:

"However, we would like to clarify that PODIUM has not yet funded this company. http://ow.ly/3mP18 4 hours ago reply "

Recs for a Tasty Place to Hold an Evening Business Meeting

Where? Edomonton? Saskatoon? Medicine Hat? Milk River?

Hummus in Calgary

You need a pressure cooker.

new sunterra...

They no doubt do, at twice the cost.

Street Meat in Calgary

And of equal interest, can John Manzo point out all the TO sausage vendors he tried that were inferior to the Yodeling Sausage.

Crossroads Market

John Gilchrist is giving CFM tours. That's enough to conclude CFM has jumped the shark!

YYC Fiddleheads

I saw them at the Coop Midtown Market a few days ago too.

City Palate Cheap Eats - Is it just me?

I heard it called "Snooty Palate" a few years ago.

Lunch/Dinner in the 'Hood (YYC)

I like this place too, and they have paya and haleem, but I never seem to be there on the day they have them.

Andouille sausage in Calgary?

I think the chowhound ethos means who cares, as long as it is tasty.

New Mex on 17th SW? (Cgy)

It may not be a "damn bar", but It's a restaurant on a bar strip selling damn expensive $6 beers.

All Clad frying pan impossibly stained after frying something

I suggest getting some cast iron and carbon steel fry pans, where that brown stain will be welcomed as another layer on the non-stick patina.

I like stainless, but for frying applications, it just doesn't work.

Just my opinion.

Mercato, Calgary. Meh.

And that same vinegar would be $15 at Lina's, and $7 at Scarpones.

Mucho Burrito Calgary

I assume you are talking about mexican [in quotes] restaurants? If you are talking more broadly about restaurants and ingredients beyond a 30 minute drive not being worthwhile, well don't complain about the state of Calgary's restaurant and ingredient scene.

Mucho Burrito Calgary

Do you own a car John? Your posts constantly lamenting destinations outside the Beltline make me wonder.

If you do drive, why the resistance to drive for 30 minutes to get some good food?

Paring knife (curve edge or straight edge).

I really like this paring knife. Carbon steel clad with stainless, so you have to wash and dry more promptly than with stainless. It holds a great edge. It appears to be backordered right now.

Good Quebec Butter in Calgary

No, kind of like how all coffee beans are not the same.

Anybody been here in Calgary

I picked up some veggies samosas recently, and they were very good. Fried to order, and the filling had nice heat and spicing. In the past I tried the chole [chick pea curry], but found it a bit too salty for my taste.

There is a new Bangladeshi market called Shewdesi Bazaar next door to the Samosa Factory that has a butcher, spices, pulses, and lots of freezers with various meats and fish. It is worth checking out next time you are getting samosas next door.

Their website is shewdesibazaar.ca, but it is pretty rudimentary.
