Best Vegetarian Food in the 6th and 7th

Would appreciate recommendations of restaurants in the 6th and 7th which have the best food for vegetarians uin addition to regular diners. Thank you for your help.

First Night Late dinner in the 5th or 6th

I would go to Ribouldinge, 10 rue Saint-Julien-le-Pauvre in the 5th (01 46 33 98 80) or Les Papilles, 30 rue Gay-Lussac (01 43 25 20 79) both about 5 blocks from your Metro. Reservations necessary and Les Papilles has one prix fix menu only but great food for 32E and you can pick your wine from the shelves and they charge the wine store price plus corkage fee of 10E. Ribouldiinge has great food and a more varied menu. Both perfect first night Paris meals

Paris, 1 Day, Not Overnight - Lunch or Dinner and where?

Havent tried it yet but what could be more romantic for one day in Paris than lunch at Alan Ducasse's redone Jules Verne Restaurant in the Eiffel Tower. See if the reviews make it worth the price or somewhere like the Hotel Bristol if its open for lunch and you can walk around the city afterwards.

Bouillibasse that is "worth the trip."

Loved your report so much and wanted to read your blog but the address you have for it wasnt linkable. If there is a different blog address-please supply. Thanks again for your report.

Gerard Mulot's Offshoot at Place des Vosges

Thank you Souphie and Dodo for the info. Need recommendation for lunch place this coming Sunday. Am going with wife and nine year old daughter to the Lacroix fashion exhibit at Les Arts Decoratifs first, then on to the Cite d'Architecture in the 16th. Need place for lunch, not too heavy as we are going to Mon Vieil Ami for A Sunday dinner. Is Cafe Very worthwhile, warm enough and open this time of year? Any other places between Les Arts Decoratifs and Cite d'Architecture you can recommend for a nice, light Sunday lunch? Thank you for your help.

Paris Gourmet Guidebooks?

Le Fooding.com is the superior website for Paris restaurants. The food critics which pick the restaurants endorsed by the site are the most prestigious restaurant critics from the top newspaper and magazines in Paris. Just look up the arrondisement and the best restaurants will come up with all pertinent information and a sample l'addition giving you an idea of the cost.

It has never failed in listing the best restaurants in Paris. In French but the important information is easily decipherable for non French speakers.

Sunday Meals in the 7th?

Sunday meals at Les Cocottes, Christian Constant's French version of an American diner, with most of the seats at the counter. No reservations but amongst the best value for food in Paris as an entree, plat, desert with wine will be around 40-45 euros.

Also, the Costes Bros place in Invalides in the 7th called Cafe de l'espanade (reservations necessary) has very good food especially their club sandwich and you may want to save dessert until you walk three blocks to the Rodin Museum garden-one euro admission to the garden and a cute outdoor cafe.

On Ile de Saint Louis, Mon Vieil Ami is open Sunday-reservations necessary as it is consistently an excellent restaurant.

Restaurants in Paris for family with two girls, 7 and 10?

Depends where are you staying? We took our daughter the last two years when she was 7 and 8 to Paris. In the Marais we ate at Chez Janou, near Luxemburg Gardens we ate at Les Papilles, in the 7th Les Cocottes and Cafe de l'espanade, Jean-Paul Hevin chocolatier and upsatirs lunch room is divine for kids on rue Saint Honore. If you want them to see how artisans in Paris create their crafts, baked goods etc. try the meetingthefrench.com site as my daughter loved the atelier for Gerard Mulot which showed how they make macaroons by hand and of ciourse with free samples.

best solo dining spots in Paris

What are the chances two people would have the same name, be in the food business and have a presence in the 7th. Who knew !!!

Paris on Sunday. Lunch and Dinner

Café de l’espanade-52 rue fabert-7th-01 47 05 38 80 M-Invalides is a very good Costes Bros place for Sunday lunch or dinner in the 7th 2 blocks from the Rodin Museum. Its club sandwich was rated the best in Paris by Le Figaro and its pastas and fish are excellent. Small terrace outside and reservations are mandatory.

best solo dining spots in Paris

Great place for a reasonable solo lunch/dinner is Les Cocottes, No reservations
135, rue Saint-Dominique, (VIIe). Tél. : 01 45 50 10 31. Métro : École-Militaire. Had lunch last Saturday and it is the best concept I have seen with the potential to succeed in most major cities if the quality of the food is kept at a high level.
Its part of the Christian Constant restaurant and desert/chocolate empire on the 7th. Les Cocottes is a 'French diner' with a long counter and some 2 and 4 top tables. The food is prepared in individual 'cocottes' cast iron pots. Great food and deserts at reasonable prices. Had a salad and coq au vin with caraffe of wine for 35€

Best Common Tables for Solo Diners

The communal tables I know of are Le Pain Quotidien and I thought the bottom floor of Helen Darroze which has a tapas menu. I am looking for common tables at bistros.

Places to Buy Christine Ferber Jams in London?

Greatly appreciate any places in London to buy Christine Ferber Jams and Jellies.

Paris first timer needs advice for honeymoon

If your near Jardins Luxembourg; I would make reservations for lunch or dinner at Les Papilles, the best value restaurant in Paris. Its Michelin starred cooking but for 28 euros. Reason is they offer one prix fixe three course meal daily and no options. I would book the reservation; then the day you are due to go; call and see if the menu matches wjat you want to try. Its three blocks from Luxembourg Gardens and you pick your wine from the wine shelves and pay wine store prices plus a 6 euro corkage fee. Wonderful food and wine store atmosphere.

Coming to London in August from NYC

If your staying in Kensington Olympia; make sure you eat at The Havelock Tavern in Brook Green. It is one of the top gastropubs in London. Accept only cash, no credit cards. Wonderful menu whch changes daily

Arbutus

Went on Father's Day and thought it was mediocre at best. Galvin Bros Bistro on Baker Street is far superior for the same prices.

whole foods, london

Enjoyed Whole Foods when we lived in California. It is a wonderful addition to Kensington High Street. It is thankfully a place which stays open until 10 p.m. during the week which automatically makes it different from anywhere else in Kensington. Very early town. The food is wonderfully presented but unless the store becomes a tourist destination; which it might-I would be surprised if its success derives from the business of the locals. Prices are way too high for regular groceries shopping so I can see locals filling in with odds and ends but not using it as their main grocery shopping store. The old line Kensington residents arent used to shopping in American stores, particularly ones whose prices for some items border on the obscene and the yuppie Brits are too broke after paying their mortgages to have much money for high priced food shopping. So that leaves the expats and the tourists which I can imagine will be the bulk of the regular food shoppers at Whole Foods.

Also thought they should have made one of the upstairs food areas a chefs kitchen for visiting chefs to use as a food theatre with it being broadcasted to TV's hung above the entrance on the block outside the store and possibly having a TV studio at the same time to tape the chefs for on air broadcasts.

The way to make Whole Foods sustainable is for it to have the image of a place to come to -where the action is. It may be able to accomplish this by being a place open late but it would have made more sense for it to adopt the aforementioned in order to sustain its 'ccolness'. Otherwise it wears off.
Now if only Trader Joes expanded to England along with Inn & Out Burger and Poquito Mas-
