where to find cake decorating supplies in toronto canada

I've used http://shop.ledolci.com in the past. They have a shop in Toronto downtown also.

You have $10 for a meal, where do you go in Toronto?

I agree... I don't know what is up with that location. I love their downtown one but for some reason they don't know what they are doing at the Eglinton location.

Nowadays it seems to be getting harder and harder to get a really tasty meal for under $10. I am curious to see where people go if they are trying to keep a meal under $10 in Toronto.

Some of my favorite places to get it started are:

Salad House - Huge salads w/ lots of toppings usually around $5 with 1 meat option. (Cumberland Terrace)
Belly Busters - Their turkey bacon sandwich at $6.95 is one of my go-to subs.
Quick Pita - Chicken Shwarma (though only eat late night as the garlic will scare anyone off that you come in contact with!)
Lin Garden - Chili Chicken on Rice Takeout

Anyone have any favorite meals for under $10? or even under $5 (if such a thing still exists!)?

Best Jerk Chicken SANDWICH in Toronto

Though not in Toronto, my favourite is at Negril in Markham at Steeles and Milliken, though I have to be honest I haven't had many others. There's is super juicy and I like their slaw.

Please add to my list of good, cheap, inexpensive FOOD in Toronto (Downtown, Scarborough, North York, Markham/Rich Hill)...

Holy crap those are some cheap prices at Sky Blue! Gonna def have to check them out!

Porchetta + Co

Finally tried the Softshell Crab... what a great sandwich (and trust me I have been looking hard for good sandwiches lately)!

The Croissant Chronicles

Great report! My friend just got back from France and was complaining about the quality of croissants here so I will send him to some of these places!

Porchetta + Co

UPDATE... went for a 3rd time and it was somewhere in between my first and 2nd visit so it is pretty good. I think the last time was just a bad experience and I will definitely go again.

Favourite downtown Sandwich?

My favs are:

Safari Bar and Grill - Chicken Wrap (Uptown)
Ravi Soups - Veggie Wrap / Lamb
Porchetta and Co.
Spot Coffee - Chipotle Turkey Wrap (This one surprised me)
Belly Busters - Turkey Bacon Sub (Uptown)
Artisano - Chicken, Veggies and Goat Cheese (Etobicoke)

Ya, I just had the mustard like you last time. Maybe I will try some of the toppings on the next visit. I definitely noticed the adjusted recipe if thats what it was. Better luck next time I guess.

Fish tacos in Toronto?

The only place I have tried them in Toronto was at Moxies at Yorkdale. They were pretty good, but after just getting back from Mexico nothing compares to the ones I had there. If you try to make them at home try adding a mango chutney or tamarind sauce with them.

Porchetta + Co

I've been here twice now and am still undecided. The first time I went I thought the sandwich was amazing and went around telling many people about the place. Great flavour and I loved the crunchy bits in it.

Last time I went my experience was quite different. After walking in sunday afternoon around 4 there was only 1 customer. All the staff continued talking to this customer for several minutes without even acknowledging me while I waited rather impatiently as I was parked illegally. Finally they got around to taking my order and when I bit in to the sandwich it seemed to lack the flavour that I remembered from my first visit. I am not sure if this is a weekend vs. weekday thing (maybe different cooks) or maybe I just had a bad experience. Regardless I will give them a 3rd shot and hopefully they redeem themselves to the flavour I remembered from my first visit.

Hakka cuisine in Toronto?

Lunch@Yonge and Bloor?

Last few days I have been going to some place on Cumberland close to Yonge called Meditteranean something... the food isn't anything amazing, but you get a good meal for $5 if you are looking for something on the cheap side. Also that salad place in Cumberland Terrace is great too!

Best chinese BBQ Pork

I was in the mood for some BBQ pork today and read the reviews on this page. Since I live downtown I went to Kom Jug to see if it was really as good as people were saying here. After trying it I think it has to be one of the worst BBQ pork's I have ever had in my life. I used to go to the place at Metro Square in Markham and loved theirs. It came with this amazing green onion stuff on the side which made it REALLY delicious.

The one at Kom Jug was out of a tray (like they have at some fast food restaurant) and had probably been sitting there all day. The pieces were all tiny and looked like I got all the left over scraps or something. Sure the price of $4 makes it hard to complain, but I don't think I will be heading back. Anyone have any other suggestions for places downtown?

What's your favourite sandwich?

Here are some of my favourites:

Artisano: Chicken, Goat Cheese and Grilled Veggies on Cheese Foccaccia (Grilled)

Belly Busters: Turkey Bacon Sub

Safari on Avenue Rd.: Chicken Wrap

Quick Pita: Chicken Shawarma

Negril (I believe thats what it is called at Steeles and Middlefield): Jerk Pork Sandwich

Quick takeout lunch at Yonge-Bloor

I 2nd Scaccia... It is one of the places I typically visit at least once per week.

Also there is a great salad place in the Cumberland Plaza too which I head to every once in a while. You get huge portions and things like their beets are delicious.

Biryani House?

Went to the Biryani House on Hayden after reading some positive reviews here. I haven't tried a lot of Biryani in my time, but it was probably the worst I ever had. I used to work in Markham and would always get it from place up there (I think we called it Kirachi but that wasn't the actual name) and that actually had more flavour to it. The rice was kinda mushy here and it really lacked a lot of spice. I asked for it to be spicy and I don't even think I'd classify that as mild. It tasted like a toned down version of Biryani made for the white people in the area (I am white too, but I would rather eat something how its meant to be). Quite disappointing as if it was good I surely would have become a repeat customer as I just started working in the area.

Need a Caterer in Toronto

Try The Food Dudes also (http://www.thefooddudes.com/). They do some pretty cool stuff and I know they have done some bug events like this before.

Shawarmas in Toronto

I love Quick Pita (I believe it is called) right downtown near the clubs (almost Queen and University but just off on a side street). The guy there always hooks me up with free Tabouli when I go after a night of drinking and their Shwarma's always hit the spot.

best brunch places in Toronto?

If money is no option, Four Seasons brunch is my favorite.

Toronto: Recommend a Korean restaurant, North York area

If you go more downtown around Bloor and Christie (probably considered Little Korea in Toronto) there is a great place called Il Bunji... I liked eating there because they had the traditional japonese style private rooms and thought it was cool. There are also tons of other Korean restaurants in that area, but I still love the Dol Sot Bibim Bap from Il Bunji.

Best romantic, yet creative and modern restaurant in Toronto?

I ate at Colborne Lane and thought it was a little too scientific. We had a great meal (Chef's table in the kitchen), but at the end of the meal my stomach was left feeling kinda queesy due to all the wierd cooking process (I suspect).

Best romantic, yet creative and modern restaurant in Toronto?

My mom mentioned Corner House to me the other day as being a great place for a date. Apparently they have small rooms where you dine in. I have never been there, but might be worth investigating further as she made it sound pretty cool.

caterers...who's the best?

I went to a really nice party a while back that was catered by The Food Dudes ( http://www.thefooddudes.com/ ), their food was amazing!

Best Jerk Chicken?

I can't believe nobody mentioned SUNRISE.... multiple locations, they have drive thru and the jerk chicken with the stew chicken gravy is the best hands down! So juicy, comes with amazing cole slaw on rice and peas.. add a rum and coke and I am in heaven!
