Any Guatemalan restaurants in the Dallas area?
As FYI for anyone who is interested, there is a new Guatemalan restaurant at Marsh and Rosemeade in Carrollton. It is called "Los Guichitos". I have eatern there twice. Once I got their 'guichito' which I thought was really good. The other time, I got the fish special which I didn't think was particularly good. I am not overly familar with Guatemalan food but it seems very authentic and I am excited to go back and try their tacos or maybe get their guichito again.
Southwest corner Preston/Frankford New restaurant?
I am excited for them to open. It seems like building and remodeling projects always take longer then I think they should. I wish them luck
Grapevine's Main Street Days Festival
Read an article that 160,000 people went this year. That seemed like a lot of people to be on Historic Main St. I guess the good weather did the trick. I am glad so many people went, that little strip of shops and restaurants has been a favorite of mine for a long time and I am glad to hear that it is doing so well.

Are there any *real* Cajun/Creole restaurants in Dallas?
i like Dodie's, especially the one on Greenville. The service can be poor, but you wanted authentic so you get authentic cajun service as well. Their crawfish ettouffee is good.
D Magazine 52 things to do as a Dallasite
I had two of these recently and I still really want to go to Mecca because I have asked around and people speak highly of it. The two I tried recently were the Mattitos and Tolberts.
The Bob Armstrong dip at Mattitos is very addicting. I don't know the back story because I think I used to think it originally came from matt's El Rancho in Lakewood. Regardless of who was the original, tortilla chips and queso mixed with ground beef and sour cream is about as good as you can get for me. Once I start eating that stuff, I can't stop and there really isn't much need to order an entree. I should just get an order of Bob Armstrong and a margarita and be good with that.
At Tolberts, I got their "North of the Border" chili which means it has pinto beans. I also ordered it "5 alarm" or their version of very spicy. It was crazy spicy. I order everything spicy and the only thing I can compare the spice to is a pasta diabolo that they used to (and maybe still do) serve with milk at St Pete's in deep ellum. The chili was good with good flavor, but I walked away feeling like a wimp because from wasabi to buffalo sauce to all sorts of peppers, I am normally fine but with a full dose of their 5 alarm sauce added, I was breathing fire, (and drinking as much cold beer as I could get)

In-N-Out Burger
I am not a big In and Out fan but as FYI to whoever is interested I saw that one is under construction at Coit and 635 in North Dallas. Might be old news but it was new to me
D Magazine 52 things to do as a Dallasite
The other food related ones that I forgot that are on the list are ...
- Get the Bob Armstrong dip at Mattitos.
- Eat a Neiman Marcus popover (which I guess is at the Zodiac room and I think more of an excuse to mention Neiman Marcus than anything)
- Spot Troy Aikman at Mi Cocina
- Order ketchup at the Stoneleigh P
- Visit the R-rated bathroom at the Angry Dog
- Eat frozen grapes by the pool at the Joule
- Eat the lobsters shooters at Abacus
Some of them are more the place than really the food, but it is still a fun / funny list.

D Magazine 52 things to do as a Dallasite
As foodies I didn't know if any of you saw D Magazine 52 things every Dallassite should do. It was on their Frontburner blog. Regardless, about 15 or so of them had to do with food around town. Some of the ones I remember off hand were...
- Get a frozen margarita at Mariano's
- Get a cinnamon roll at Mecca
- Get chili at Tolbert's
- Get Al Biernat to remember your name
- Get a steak at Dunston's
- Get chicken fried steak at Babe's
- Get Fuel City Tacos
- Get a sandwich at Jimmy's Food Store
- Hang out and people watch at Primo's
- Go to Louie's and forget they only accept AMEX
- Meet Dean Fearing
There were a few other food or restaurant related ones but I can't remember them. There were also some pretty funny non-food related ones like "Get a fake boobs", "Get lost in the downtown Dallas tunnels", and "Get pulled over in Highland Park"
I have been to most of the food places, but I have never been to Mecca so I am going to have to try them out.
I was curious as to what other chowhounders thought of the list?

I definitely like their malts. I am glad they have a new Carrollton location.

Thoughts on Lonsome Dove Bistro?
I am a big fan of Lonesove Dove. Rarely get over there, but it is really good.
Rusty Taco -- 38 minutes for a taco?
I had a similar experience at Rusty Taco. Long wait, average tacos. I did hear earlier this week from a friend that they have significantly improved. Not sure if that means fewer people go so there is less of a wait or if they fixed something else. I haven't gone back, but will probably give them another shot at some point.
Best Dim Sum & Cantonese Food in DFW.
I love to see Dim Sum threads on Chowhound. Makes me feel like Dallas is widening its culinary spread.
I agree with amadanj. Hong Kong Royal is the best in the area. DallasDude mentioned their shrimp and chive dumplings which are good, but I like their sprimp and spinach even better, probably one of my favorite dishes in Dallas.

Asian Mint???
I am a fan of Asian Mint but it definitely isn't the height of authencity. It is what it is. Like any number of other cuisines that people make restaurants that are generally the same food but more americanized. As a bunch of people have pointed out, if you want more authentic thai food, there are lots of good options, but I would say if you are taking someone to lunch who might not be as into or familar with different asian foods or spices, then Asian Mint is a good place. It is clean and nice (they definitely charge a little more) but it is not exorbinant.
Fine Dining Downtown Dallas recommendations for husband's 40th.
I am probably past time to help with your husband's birthday, but I would include some other options as well and if I were rating them I would rate it Charlie Palmer, Fearings, Hibiscus (Not completely downtown, but I love it), The French Room, Stephan Pyles, The Mansion, 560 and Craft in that order. I am not a big fan of Craft, but you can't really go wrong with any of the others, I would just say it comes down to personal preference.
Best Pizza in North Dallas?
Love Cane Rosso at Chocolate Angel. Very good pizza. Different to me than some of my other favorites but I love it. Thin crust but not too thin. And BYOB which is nice.
[DAL] Eatzi's on Lovers Lane
I like their sandwiches on bone bread and their salads. I have never gotten the general obsession with their prepared foods. I usually don't think they are all that great and are expensive for what you get, but I did have their chicken salad last night and it was pretty good.
D/FW - Lava 10 - Grapevine
I will have to try both of those places. I have never previously heard of either. From my experience in Singapore, they don't really have a cuisine of their own as much as a mix (but not really a blend) of their 4 main influences (Chinese, Malay, English and Indian). It sounds like Secret Recipes is more Malay and Lion City is more Chinese?
Chicken and Waffles in DFW
I have had them at both Victor Tango's and Hatties. Both are good, I mean it is chicken and waffles, it kind of has to be good.
The waffles are thicker at Hatties and the syrup comes infused with some red peppers flakes. I am sure you could ask for it without the red pepper flakes but I think it helps give it good flavor.
Best Vietnamese in the Dallas area?
Thanks for posting those menus with translations. I have never tried either place and now I have to try both.
Best BBQ restaurant in Uptown/Downtown area?
I like Mike Andersons and Sammys as well. Some people mentioned those. But I also really like Dickey's. I feel like it is not cool to like Dickeys now that they have locations all around, but I like their food.
Need a replacement Chicken place for Brothers in Dallas
Does anyone have any opinion / thoughts on "Raisin Canes"? I know very little about it and have never been, but I know an acquaintance from Louisiana who swears by them and drives significantly out of his way to meet his Lousiana friends at the one in Richardson. I kind of thought it was just nostalgia for something from home for them, but then I heard two other people talking about it today and how much they love it. I think there are a few locations and I think it is basically set up as fast food, but I really don't know. Am curious if there are any chowhounders who are fans who can fill me in...
Best Philly Cheesesteaks in DFW?
gavlist - Thanks for the recommendation. I have never known of any good cheesesteak places in North Texas. We will definitely try it out.
J.S. Chen's, Plano. Comments on Dim Sum Please
DallasDude -
Great review of Hong Kong Royal. I love dim sum and I love how there always seems to be a thread going on Chowhound about it. It definitely helps me learn about some of the dishes that I might not have otherwise tried.
DFW -- Best Breakfast Burrito
I still haven't tried the taco joint but it is at the of my list.
The restaurant Local review
I feel like Local is a place I feel like I should like and want to like but have tried it 3 or 4 times and been gradually less impressed.
Thanks for the review.
Best Cinnamon Roll in Dallas
I have wondered this before but never known of a good place.
