Seeing Wicked at the Orpheum with 3 Neices and 4 Sisters
Thanks for the suggestions! I just found out that someone else is planning dinner- a new place called Artisan Bistro in Lafayette. Afternoon tea at Neiman's is a great idea. Maybe we'll have to work that into a day of shopping some other time!
Seeing Wicked at the Orpheum with 3 Neices and 4 Sisters
Hello hounds! I'm seeing a matinee of Wicked at the Orpheum this weekend on a "girl trip" with my sisters and neices. The younger girls are 10-12 yrs, and we would love to take them somewhere fun and tasty afterwards. We were thinking something 1) Kind of upscalish- yet kid friendly 2) with good food- the other ladies all enjoy something tasty when they go out. Maybe cal-cuisine, italian or seafood but we're open to suggestions 3) Something not too far from the theatre.
It may be a tall order, but I would appreciate any help in making it a SF day to remember!
french san diego
Second Cavaillon. Everything I've had there has been very good- including brunch on Sundays!
As good as Blanca near Solana Beach
Market off Via de Valle.

Fresh Turkeys for Thanksgiving in San Diego?
It's in the same small shopping center as Zenbu in LJ.
Sustainable and pastured meat in San Diego
It's called Homegrown Meats. All I tried there was a house made jalepeno sausage and a Rosie Petaluma chicken. Their prices are high, but they do claim that their beef is all pasture on Palomar. They have their own aging room, but do have to send their meat up to LA to be processed still, since there isn't a closer operation.
ps- if you like FFN, I would recommend The Omnivore's Dilemma. It's a little more broad, but excellently researched.
Fresh Turkeys for Thanksgiving in San Diego?
I just saw an ad for Tip Top Meats in Carlsbad having Diestel turkeys. I've heard only good things about this meat market and deli.
excellent chile relleno in SD?
It is the same owner. The Solana Beach store is the original. The chile relleno and carne asada anything are my go-to for a quick cheap meal. Maybe not earth-shattering, but definitely delicious.
Driving from LA to San Diego
Just had a mini strawberry rhubarb pie from Elizabethan Desserts and it was soooo good. The crust was to die for.
There is good Thai food in San Diego
This place is fantastic! I got the green papaya salad (thai style) since it was so highly recommend, and it didn't disappoint. The blend of spice and sweet and sour....yum. I also got the sausage, which was also delicious, and the pad see ew was the best i've had. This place is definitely worth the trip down to linda vista.
recs for 30th b-day dinner in san diego?
I'll third for searocket. I'v heard it can be a little hit or miss sometimes, especially with service, but the two times I went everyone was friendly and accommodating, and all of the food has been excellent. Great for a pescatarian. I think their menu is posted online.
Dinner N. County San Diego
Had a great meal last week at the 3rd corner bistro in encinitas. I think it opened maybe a month ago. It's one of those places that's appended to a wine shop, so you pick out a bottle at retail for your meal with no corkage, or reasonably priced glasses. My SO and I shared the cheese plate, and I had the shrimp bisque, which was fantastic. I believe they have a website, but I recall all the prices being very reasonable for the quality. Good food and wine, nice atmosphere, but definitely down to earth.
Tapas in San Diego?
I second Costa Brava. Their happy hour is great. My bf and I got at least 4 plates, and four glasses of sangria for like $40. The dishes were all good- lamb kabobs, spicy potatoes etc. and a great value.
San Diego Local Beef, Pork and Poultry?
Homegrown meats in La Jolla advertises local grass-fed meats, and is an entire market with a wide range of product. I believe the beef is pasture fed in Palomar. They also make their own jerky and sausages, as well as age the beef in house. Here's their website:

Rehearsal Dinner in SD area (Del Mar) for 60
Trattoria il Trulli in Encinitas has some of the best Italian food in the area, but it's small, so you would probably have to rent out the restaurant. I have no idea how much that would cost, but you should give them a call. It would be a charming place for a rehearsal dinner.
New Bakery in Encinitas
I didn't catch the name of it unfortunately, and it doesn't come up when I did a search for "encinitas bakery", so it must be pretty new. It's one of the only food places on 2nd street though, so you can't miss it.
New Bakery in Encinitas
Just dropping a quick note to say that there is a brand new viennese style bakery in Encinitas. I had just eaten breakfast at St. Germain's, so I wasn't exactly hungry, but I couldn't resist the new bakery sign I spotted on 101. It was fairly busy at 11:30, and it seems like there had been a lot of traffic judging by what was left. All I could muster to get was a chocolate croissant, but it was delicious- light and buttery. The coconut macaroon sample I tried was also delicious. They have a small lunch menu too. It's located on 2nd Street- West of 101 next to the Encinitas Visitor Center.
If You Like Ginger....(SD)
Guava and cream cheese pastry is delicious! The guava jam is fantastic- sweet without losing the guava taste, and it pairs perfectly with the cream cheese and delicate pastry outside. I accidently ate the whole thing on my drive home, as well as half of the mojito cookie that was supposed to be a present. To be fair it was a long drive.
N.County Thai
I like Bangkok Bay in Solana Beach. Way better than Taste of Thai IMO, and the inside has a cool and casual ambiance, though it can be difficult to hear since its usually crowded. And if you ask for your curry it be spicy, it will be really spicy, so watch out!
Recc a North County SD caterer for relaxed babyshower.
I think the Naked Cafe in Solana Beach caters, and they use whole foods, or maybe the Beach Grass Cafe, but i don't know if they cater. For desserts check out Elizabethan Desserts in Encinitas for sure. Best iced goods to be found in north county. All these places have websites.
UCSD graduation weekend recs?
I think I'll make a reservation at market since that dinner's a smaller group. I've been wanting to try it, and I've heard mixed things about blanca. Actually some friends and I want to have a get together for all of our families, and wanted to order in food for 20-25 people. Does Tony's or Fidels do that? are there other good places around that do?
UCSD graduation weekend recs?
I'm graduating from UCSD in June, and my family is coming down from friday morning to monday night. We are basing out of Solana Beach, and I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for 1- a delicious place for the celebratory dinner 2- a more reasonable place for the larger family for dinner, and 3- places for lunch and breakfast that are really good and maybe more reasonable? We love food of all kinds, asian, mexican, anything really, and aren't afraid to be adventurous. Not particularly interested in mediocre food with a great view. I would prefer not to have to travel too far, as weekend traffic can be oppressive. Thanks!
