Terrible Service at Victory 44
That's ridiculous. First, one should expect competent service regardless (the only exception to me is just-opening jitters). Second, we didn't have a damn chance to buy the chefs a round of beer, we didn't even know what kind of beer they served due to the lousy service!
I fully agree with the above that there are too many great places in the Twin Cities to give these guys a chance at redemption.
Terrible Service at Victory 44
We weren't sitting around for 30 minutes getting mad; we were happily chatting with each other until we noticed it had been 30+ minutes.
As to the next post, of course I would expect a tasting menu to take perhaps a couple hours. I would also expect it to commence before the first hour was over.
Terrible Service at Victory 44
It's unfortunate that after spending nearly an hour here last night, I cannot comment on the food at all. We arrived at about 7:15, hoping to try the 2-for-1 Tasting menu. Upon arrival, we were not greeted by anyone, as there doesn't appear to be a host/hostess stand. Eventually a man told us to sit wherever we liked. We found a table and began the longest wait either of us have ever experienced. In hindsight, I certainly should have approached somebody.
At 7:45, a waitress finally came over and asked if we needed a drink (disregarding the ridiculous wait, not to mention the fact we were never given a drink menu). Inexplicably, she left before we could answer and gave us a drink menu and a couple of waters (a 30 minute wait for water!). She then left again and said she'd be right with us for our order. 15 minutes later, she still wasn't back. We decided we'd leave at 8. At 8 on the dot a different waiter came over and asked if we were ready to order. We gave him our drink order and ordered the tasting menu. When we ordered the tasting, he looked toward the board (where it said 5-8pm), and I swear, was about to tell us the 2-for-1 deal expired at 8. He appeared to change his mind when he saw our angry anticipatory faces. Instead, he meekly apologized and said the tasting menu would take a very long time, and we would likely be there for 1.5-2 hours. We finally got up and left. Incidentally, we went to Taqueria la Hacienda and had an amazing meal for half the price with a tenth of the wait.
I've literally never experienced service this bad, it was really inexcusable, and I'll likely never be going back there.

Some Great Pad Thai, Naviya's new Brasserie is Open
Is there a menu online anywhere for take-out?
Bar La Grassa cocktails?
Heading there tomorrow night, and didn't see any cocktail recommendations in the other threads. Does anything stand out?

Speaking of which, why isn't this place open yet? They could be doing great business right now.
What Makes New York Pizza special? [Split from Minneapolis St. Paul Board]
Spoken like someone who's never had true NY pizza. Sorry, but it's the water.
Indian Cooking Class
I took an Indian cooking class a few weeks ago through Minneapolis Community Ed, entitled "Sambars and Idlis". While I really enjoyed the food, I didn't learn too much about indian cooking (the instructor wasn't Indian), and it felt more like we were really just given a recipe to follow (which I could have done at home on my own much more easily and cheaply).
Good food between Minneapolis and Stone Lake/Hawyard, WI
There must be something to eat on the way. Help me out...
Good food between Minneapolis and Stone Lake/Hawyard, WI
We're driving up north this weekend, and looking for a good place Friday night, not too expensive but any type of food. We'll probably take I-35 to I-70. Some towns on the route include Wyoming, MN, Grantsburg, WI, Spooner, Stone Lake and Hayward, but I could be talked into driving a few minutes off route if it's worth it. Anybody done this drive before and know of something good? I've heard of good cheese curds in Grantsburg, but unfortunately, that won't satisfy the SO.
Is there really GOOD pizza in MSP???
Black Sheep is great, but it's not on par with Sally's or Pepe's. I'm from NY and have visited New Haven's pizzerias many times while visiting family, and pizza in MN just won't hold a candle to it.
(MSP) Date Night (1 Yr Together) - Italian or Mexican
Agreed, if you're going for real Mexican don't go to Masa or Barrio. Wander down East Lake and hit up a place.
Minneapolis mexican?
Head down E. Lake Street. Taqueria La Hacienda, Los Ocampo, bunch of places in Mercado Central are all very good.

Food between Minneapolis and Duluth
Need some quick answers to this one. We're leaving in less than an hour and would like some good food for the road, on the way up to Duluth. Ideas?
Chow-worthy quick eats between Rochester, MN and Madison, WI?
Thanks, wish I had known that Friday. We ended up at Subway.
Chow-worthy quick eats between Rochester, MN and Madison, WI?
Gotta be something, right?
Chow-worthy quick eats between Rochester, MN and Madison, WI?
Driving from Rochester to Madison tonight, and looking for something (preferably quick) worth eating. Anybody know of anything along the way? Not important what kind of food.
Minneapolis bars in Lake Harriet area ?
I was just talking about this last night. I don't know of any around there, but Linden Hills desperately needs a bar. It would be great in that area.
Better Vietnamese (MSP)?
I know there's plenty already on this topic around here, but I'll recommend Pho Tau Bay on Nicollet, as well as Quang (also on Nicollet) on weekends for the sea bass soup. Ngon in St. Paul is classier, with great Pho.
Jacques Pepin "Fast Food My Way" episodes online
Anybody know where to find these, or if they exist online? These or any great chef's shows online would be nice, maybe Bayless? Thanks
Jacques Pepin "Fast Food My Way" episodes online
Does anybody know where to find season 1 episodes online? I've watched the season 2 episodes on the KQED "Fast Food My Way" website, and figured that, since they're up, season 1 must be somewhere as well, but I can't find them for the life of me.
Thanks.
MSP -- dog/puppy friendly locations for people-chow
Rustica/Java Jack's always have tons of dogs, and they're in your neighborhood (W. 46th and Bryant).
MSP - Good places in Brooklyn Park?
Any relatively cheap and casual places to eat that are also decent quality?
