Scarpetta
Thank you for the recommendations. We ended up ordering the Tuna Susci, Polenta, and Short Ribs to Start. And then for our entrees, we split the Spaghetti with Tomato and Basil, Duck and Foie Gras Ravioli, and the Black Cod. Everything was really great. And that foccacio with prosciutto and mozzarella in the bread basket was outstanding. Thank you again, I really appreciate the advice and it made for a memorable meal.

Thank you for the prompt replies. It will be four of us total. I am definitely planning on enjoying the bread basket as well. I think we will stear away from the tasting menu and just order a la carte as I don't think we will end up ordering $300+ dollars worth of food, assuming the tasting menu is $80 per person. I really appreciate the advice, and yes, the dishes we're ordering are on the heavier side, but that's ok. I don't want to miss out on anything when it's a special occasion type of meal.
So we should get the cod? Is it a decent portion to share?
Babbo versus Scarpetta?
Hello - I'm having dinner there for the first time this weekend, we're going to be four eaters with medium-size appetites. Based on the reviews I've seen, we're thinking about getting the Fritto Misto, Polenta, Short Ribs, Tuna Susci, Ravioli, and Spaghetti Tomato Basil. But I'm lost as to whether we need any additional pasta courses and entrees, and if so, what do you recommend from the standards or new items? If I should eliminate any of the aformentioned dishes, please let me know. Thanks!

Theatre District, Birthday Dinner Ideas
It's my father's birthday and we're seeing a Saturday matinee on 50th and 8th avenue and would like to go out for a nice dinner afterwards. My dad tends to look for healthier dining options, i.e. good salads, fish, lean meats and other interesting dishes. We end up eating Thai often or modern italian, we tend to stray away from French restaurants, steakhouses, etc. because they don't always ofter "lean options." Any recommendations in the general vicinty would be really helfpul.
Affordable, quality sushi
You're in luck, because my favorite affordable, sushi restaurant is about a block away. Tenzan. I believe it's on 2nd Avenue either btw 51st and 52nd or 52nd and 53rd. Very affordable, very fresh, the fish is cut very large which for most people can be a turn-off. But any place with a great menu and variety that seems to embrace more fish and less rice is a winner in my book. You can easily walk away for less than $40pp
Del Friscos or Strip House in NYC
Would you recommend ordering the ribeye or the ny strip at Strip House, I've heard positive reviews for both. And how was the Foie Gras to share?
Stanton Social, what to get?
So four of us are having dinner at Stanton Social next week. What should we order? Is there anything that was a dissapointment or not worth ordering?
Theatre District dinner options?
We're seeing the Jersey Boys tomororw night, theatre is located on 52nd btw Broadway and 8th Avenue. And we're all relatively health conscious and try to avoid any foods high in oils, fats, sugars, etc. Typically we fair well at more modern asian fusion restaurants that serve a good piece of fish and brown rice and we either have them go easy on the sauce or put it on the side. But otherwise any other good restaurant recommendations in the neighborhood would be welcome. Preferably some place with a nice, casual atmosphere and moderately priced as well. Light mediterranean or new american/continental would work too. Thanks!
Convivio or JoJo?
I don't want to confuse this board but thought I'd piggy back off the convivio conversation since I have a reservation there later this month. What are the must order items? There are three of us and we all like to share so the more recommendations the better. Also my guests tend to eat really light, so would the restaurant accommodate only two people doing the four-course price fix and our third guest just sharing? We can add a side item or two as well or any particular course if it's not to be missed.
Coffee and Dessert after Convivio
So we have dinner plans at Convivio in Tudor Place but I'm not sure they have great desserts. I also know nothing about Tudor City so any ideas of a local place to grab a good gelato or cup of coffee? Or any other cute trendy cafe to have a cup of coffee and something sweet to unwind?
special occasion dinner for family recommendations
I actually think we're gonna try The Modern Bar Room, menu looks great, and we'll order about two or three plates each and share. What should we get, any recommendations, everything sounds delish...
Gramery Tavern Lounge or The Modern Bar Room?
Great, I think we're gonna give the Bar Room at the The Modern a try, the space looks amazing and the fact that they take reservations makes it far more attractive. I'm very pumped.
Gramery Tavern Lounge or The Modern Bar Room?
Debating btw dining at the GT Lounge and Modern Bar Room, of which I've heard both are amazing. I will eventually try both, but for four adults, which would you recommend. Overall, does one rival the other in terms of food quantity, quality, variety, price, ambiance, service, overall experience?
Blue Water, Atlantic, or Ocean Grill - Any difference?
We're potentially having dinnner at either Blue Water Grill, Atlantic Grill, or Ocean Grill. We have no preference location wise and for the most part the menus look to be quite similar. Which would you recommend? Also, if neither are good, what other kinds of Mediterranean, new American/Continental menus at a similar price point would you recommend?
special occasion dinner for family recommendations
That's great advice. I did want to add that for a great dining experience, I'm happy to spend up to $300 or so, even more, I don't mind spending if it's worth it...
special occasion dinner for family recommendations
Hello,
I'd like to take my parents and sister out for a special dinner in New York. Location wise we're open, but we might see a broadway show as well so if there are locations relatively short driving distance from the theatre district that'd be great. We're not really into super fancy food but appreciate high quality ingredients and cooking. We're gonna order a la carte and don't have huge appetites, but typically order three or four salads/appetizers, three entrees and share, and a drink each, but we're flexible. And I'd like to spend all-in less than $200 - $250. I've read great reviews and always had an interest in dining at places like EMP, The Modern, Gramercy, Bouley, Bar Boulud, Blue Hill, etc. but I'm not sure if it's within my means: I would appreciate any recommendations. Thanks!
Great Value Reds... ($10 - $20 range)
That would be phenomenal, the more help you can provide the better. Already we're off to great start.
Great Value Reds... ($10 - $20 range)
I used to be a passionate wine drinker but my hobby's somewhat dissapated. I'm looking to build back up and would love any recommendations for great reds in the $10 - $20 range. I prefer medium to full bodied wines, preferably anything from Italy, Spain, South Africa, Washington State, etc. I'd like to avoid the oldworld California wines and French wines that are already way overpriced. And I guess most Italian varietals as well. I have always trended toward the old world style of cabs and bordeaus, loved some pinot noirs, but I'm otherwise very open. Just in general nothing too fruit forward (i've never been a huge zinfandel fan) but I have had a number of syrah's that blew my socks off. Thanks in advance!
Looking for a great "chef's tasting menu" for $50 dollars or less in manhattan
Best value I can think of wouldn't be considered a chef's tasting menu. But the price-fixe at L'Ecole (French Culinary Institute) is about $40 and for an additional $15 or so they do a wine pairing. Service is tremendous and it's fun getting taken care by culinary students. Highly recommended for an affordable alternative to a typical upscale tasting.
Restaurant Week most expensive
Not too much, I had a dissapointing RW dinner there last year. Ravioli appetizer was good but I finished it in 3 bites. And my entree, a kobe sirloin type of dish with grilled onions was awful. You can upgrade for anywhere from $20 - $50 and then with water and drinks, we also got a side of french fries, the bill ended up being $100pp. I would not recommend during rw.
NYC Fine Dining........
A colleague of mine just had dinner at Country in the Carlton Hotel. Geoffrey Zakarian's newer restaurant, I believe in the Carlton Hotel. Said it was phenomenal, blows the socks off of Eleven Madison Park. I also highly recommend Blue Hill.
