Make Your Own Yogurt

foodISlove- You would just be making more buttermilk, not yogurt. Though admittedly handy if youre making baked goods...
Anyhow, bmilk contains only one type of bacterium (S lactis) while yogurt contains several (S thermophilus, L acidophilus, L bulgaricus plus more). This leads to a different product.

I make my yogurt w/ raw milk. 1/2 cup yogurt + milk to fill yogurt maker = yogurt in 12 hours! I fement it a long time to reduce lactose. Sometimes I strain it. Its thinner than regular yogurt but it is soooo good. I make kefir on the counter (room temp) w/ raw milk too.

I love milk products...

True... making it outweighs the freezing it I suppose! Why on earh would you BUY the stuff. Its bad... and really expensive!

I get the tea thing! Water heated for 2:22 in the microwave... steep PG Tipps (Sometimes Red Label) for 4.5 mins. Add sugar (I use stevia now) and REAL half and half.

You should try it on some crusty toast with loads of butter and avocado slices... yummy!

Maple syrup.



Plain yogurt.

Sugar added to everything... why?! Potato salad/ wings/ spaghetti/ etc is not supposed to be frickin sweet!

BUTTERCREAM. Is there powdered sugar in it? Go away.

Real cream for coffee... no powder.

I am sure there are more... but thats what I have right now!

I strain mine over few layers of cheesecloth for a few hours.

The strained yogurt is lower in sugar b/c apparently the lactose is primarily in the whey.

You can use the whey to lactoferment stuff... yum. Kim chee, saurkraut, kvass...

I make my own yogurt all the time! I love it. I dont even buy it anymore unless its some fancy kind I want to try.

It will last about 7-10 days, by my guess. I have eaten it at 10 days and been totally fine.

Dessert Help

Well, if youre going for cupcakes a couple of my favorite flavor combinations are:
Lavender and honey (wildflower honey to be exact)
Earl Grey and orange/ grapefruit
Pistachio and rose
Cardamom and orange

One on the list I do a lot is carrot cake (with golden raisins and a hint of orange) with a good cream cheese frosting and canided carrot curls.

Someone else said tres leches... love it! I make mine super light with lots of whipped egg whites in the batter and a whipped cream frosting.

Good luck! Remember its 1/2 about presentation!

The Basics: How to Make Quinoa Salad

My fave quinoa pilaf is made with tomatoes, onions, artichoke hearts, peppers, zuchinni, parsley and diced chicken with lemon and olive oil or Paul Newman dressing. You can really make any kind of meal with it, its so versatile. I even treat it like couscous and make it with nuts, raisins, coconut or fruit and maybe a little goat cheese. Mmmm.

Tomatoes Packed in Their Own Juices

I can fruits and make jams a lot and I didnt need to buy anything except the cans! There is always a way! BUT for the large jers I MAY need to but a can lifter... my tongs may slip up! I will def be canning my tomatoes and zuchinni this summer!

I do sympahize with the writer. I also agree with many others here that it was the WAY the issue was handled. If the bar was flinging meat down your throat it would be one thing... but ANY bar/ restaraunt will be cooking meat so the issue really is moot. How about next time saying: "Hmmmm, okay... but next time Ill pick!!!" Give a little smile and call it a day.

Tres Leches Cake

I loooove tres leches cake. I dont like things too sweet in general, so I only add about 1/4 cup of sugar (the sw/cond milk makes up for it!!!) and use unsweetened coconut (when I use it). Also, I cant have egg yolks, so I add a bit of butter (so its still moist) and just use the whites. Muy delicioso!
