Chinese Steamed Pork Buns (Char Siu Bao?) in Dallas - Take Out? JS Chen's only does daytime dim sum at their Plano Location. At Legacy they have 'lunch' dim sum and 'dinner' dim sum. Online, one can see the dim sum menus for Legacy. The Plano location online only shows pictures. So thank you for the tip! |

Chinese Steamed Pork Buns (Char Siu Bao?) in Dallas - Take Out? Quick update: I headed up to the Legacy and 75/Central Expressway area. (Thanks to both twin willow's and irodguy's suggestions.) The food court had what I was looking for: Bao of many kinds from Tasty Buns. (Tasty Buns, 240 Legacy Dr., #308B, Plano, TX 75023 inside the food court.) I arrived later in the day and there were only two types left: pork/cabbage and red bean paste. I also learned that the Char Siu BBQ style that I love is mainly a dim sum offering. So, I am taking a chance - I bought a dozen and I am going to try to steam them to life for my friends. Wish me luck! |

Chinese Steamed Pork Buns (Char Siu Bao?) in Dallas - Take Out? I love Char Siu Bao (I think this is the correct term for steamed pork buns)! I'd like to share them with some friends, so I'd like to find a place where I can order them to be taken out. I've found some frozen ones in the past, but I don't do a good job of reheating them, so, I'd like to pick them up close to the time I'll be sharing them. (On a Monday evening around 6.) I live north of Addison. Thanks for any suggestions! |

Best Batali restaurant for weekend night Dinner? kathryn - so many thanks. Eataly is probably out (I'll go on Monday by myself while the hubby is at work). I didn't realize where the T-museum was - so good info. RGR's tour is probably JUST what the doctor ordered. AND both Degustation and Txikito look just awesome!! (Now, if I can only get reservations...) I can't say that we are on an unlimited budget, but it is not uncommon for my hubby and I to spend well over $50 pp on good dining while on holiday. (And for no apparent reason in our own town!) On the flip side...I think I'm gonna direct us to nathan's hotdogs (7th Ave & 50th) for lunch on Saturday afternoon so we can enjoy dinner at almost any hour past 5 on Saturday. Unless, of course the 'hounds can direct me to a better NY style hotdog spot that is easily accessible from Rockefeller Plaza (hotel is nearby). I'm a fan of 'convenience' in the sense that I won't hesitate to hop the subway or take a taxi to get to where I want to go when I want to be there. I've been to Manhattan at least once per year for the last 6 years and I am comfortable moving about the area. (However, this is the first time it will be only me and my husband and we will not be beholden to the tourist sites, TKTS, or tight budgets! Yippee!) We have Sat afternoon, all day Sunday, poss. Monday night to plan. (Monday day and tuesday day and night, I'm on my own.) Again, thank you kathryn and everyone for your input. I've never put this much thought into NYC before! I'm open to any and all suggestions! PS any one have comments on 230 Fifth (for a pleasant patio deck drink)? ----- Txikito Eataly |

Best Batali restaurant for weekend night Dinner? We'll be flying in around noon on a Saturday from Dallas. We are adventurous eaters (but not crazy-odd). Sushi, Asian of almost any type, Italian (spicier), Spanish, Mexican (all varieties), Mediterranean, Russian, Ukrainian, German, French, Turkish, Indian, etc. I think our focus in NYC is European/Mediterranean in general. But also, we enjoy the ambiance of a restaurant or the breezy patio, outdoor seating or deck of an establishment. As of today, I'm thinking our itinerary is shaping up like this: As I see time ticking away and I haven't made reservations; I see my dining options dwindling. I need to get a move on my meals! ----- |

Best Batali restaurant for weekend night Dinner? We are going to be in NYC for only a few days. My hubby is letting me 'plan the weekend'. He has indicated that it is all up to me - but, when pressed for ideas or '*anything*' he'd actually like for me to plan, he indicated - "Yeah, I'd like to go to a Mario B restaurant." So...the only real request is this. Having said that, I still don't have any reservations... and I'd GLADLY accept any awesome gastronomic suggestions!!! Bottom line. We like to dine well and we really only have two evenings (Sat & Sun) to do so in NYC. (Possibly Monday night, too.) |

Best Batali restaurant for weekend night Dinner? Thank you! And...if I were looking for Mario involvement? |

Best Batali restaurant for weekend night Dinner? Weekend getaway to Manhattan and we'd like to go to one of Mario's restaurants. Italian and Spanish are both options. We love both. We'd prefer a more intimate setting. Thoughts? |

OMIGOD - The Most Amazing Pork in the Crock-Pot!!!! Resurrecting as well. In the crock pot now. Options are 4 & 6 - high and 8 & 10 low. I think I should have used low 8, but it's too late! So, we are at 6 high. Seared pieces in sliced garlic tainted EVOO. Didn't rub spices, just did a good toss in a bowl with teensy, teensy bit of cinnamon, little bit of coriander, more of cumin and onion powder + lil bit o'pepper. Placed in cooker then added a cup of broth, the slices of garlic and a two quartered shallots on top. (I didn't want left over onion in my fridge.) Ooh, also not really sure what my cut of meat is. "Country style ribs" 1.5 lbs. Cross your fingers for me! |

While I'm thinking about it, Steak Tartare... Mignon in Plano. Tartare is always available for the asking. (We ask every time. Ask when you arrive and sit down.) Recipe can vary a little, but always good. Don't know the price. You can be jeans and golf shirt casual in the bar; add a sweater for the dining room. You'll run in to suits and cocktail dresses, but also jeans and nice button downs. We always get in when we want. We kind of reserve a spot by using open table 10 minutes before we leave to drive over to the restaurant. ----- |

Canadian expat in Dallas wants to watch Gold medal Hockey game with other expats! And hopefully have some good food in the process. BUT - watching with other expats is the *goal* here. Went to a sports bar for the first USA vs. Canada game. Only expat there. Very lonely! Hubby is the expat - I'm a Dallasite! |

[DFW] Best French Fries in the Metroplex [DFW] I agree! (I use the German/French traditional dip with these - Mayo!) |

I like Maudee's in the Highland Park area. (East of the tollway on the south side of Lover's lane.) Call ahead. Reasonable price and they love what they do! Ask them to explain the tradition of afternoon tea once you arrive and sit down. Kids of all ages love this - youngest that I would recommend is probably 5 - based on attention span and manners. They can offer 'fruit' teas for the kiddies - like hot punch! You will be FULL when you are done - make it a late lunch. ----- |

Have you gone, yet? I have enjoyed both restaurants. I've only been to Jasper's twice, but I've been to Mignon more than 10 times in the last 2 years. I agree, the service can go up and down. I'd say 2 of the last 10 times we've gone, the service has been sub-par, but generally the service is very good. Both restaurants can be loud. Jasper's seemed to have a more 'uppity/trendy' type of attitude where as Mignon was more 'respectfully friendly'. You could call ahead and ask for their 'top' waiter and I'm sure they would seat you with someone good. Now, food. We like this place because we can consistently get good Steak Tartar (with yummy pommes frites - french fries), even when it is not on the menu. Also, we really enjoy their foie gras. (These two items are not common in any restaurant in Dallas.) I regularly enjoy all of their salads. The desserts are fine. Hubby likes the risotto that comes with the pepper encrusted steak (although he asks them to tone down the pepper). I always over eat here! Finally, another favorite is the blue cheese stuffed olives that my husband requests with his Tang. 10 martini! Phew - maybe more than you wanted to know. We love this place. (Demographic- 40 something) ----- |

Thanks! We went to Bogalac - pretty good, but Codo sounds like it would be a great option for our next vietnamese run in Calgary. Thanks again! |
