Brooklyn Boy's Profile
Does anyone know of any good vegan restaurants in Brooklyn?
I second the recs for Veggie Castle and Foodswings. Both tasty, affordable restaurants.
Where can I find good Cassava Pone ?
I can think of two places, but I can't recall the exact names or locations :)
Both are on Nostrand Avenue, one on (I believe) the corner of Dean Street - it's called International Bakery, or something like that. The other is further south, not far from a branch of Gloria's Roti Shop. I've usually passed by there on Sunday mornings and the line literally stretches 10 people out the door.
Another possibility is Conrad's, at 299 Utica Avenue, corner of President, I believe.
Also, most roti shops carry a basic line of desserts. Enjoy, and please report back! I love cassava pones and am always interested in hearing about other places that sell them.
Best sushi in Brooklyn
Gen on Washington and St. Mark's (Prospect Heights) is great. Fresh ingredients, creative dishes, and friendly service. Funky decor, too, if you're into that sort of thing.
Geido is also good. In the past I've enjoyed Yamato, but have not been there in years.
The Finalists
Oops - we also intended to go to *L'Assommor* for cocktails and grilled fish!
The Finalists
My wife and I will soon be venturing to Montreal. After some researching, I've settled on the following restaurants. Is there any reason why we should NOT try any of the following?
La Ravanne
Au Messob D'or
Anubis
Le Chevres
Bonny's
Santropol
Place D'Armes (for cocktails)
Le Petit Moulinsart (for Belgian beer)
L'Actuel (for Belgian beer)
Any opinions are much appreciated!
Celebratory dinner near Brooklyn Museum of Art?
Beats, Aliseo, or the Garden Cafe.
Or Gen for sushi (st. mark's and washington)
Brooklyn Restaurant not in the slope
Olea in Ft. Greene is great! Lafayette and Adelphi, I believe.
The best of the Brooklyn Caribbean restaurants
Definitely second the Nio's rec. Great food!
Ali's on Fulton and Nostrand is also a good standby.
For desserts, try Conrad's, on Utica and President (or around there). In the same area is Joyce's, which has the best sea moss I've ever tasted.
For veggie fare, Veggie Castle and D'Ital Shack are OK. The best veggie restaurant, I'Qulah in Jamaica, Queens, is gone (now a hair salon).
V-Spot: the worst restaurant in Park Slope?
This sucks. I was excited when this place opens, given the lack of vegan restaurants in Brooklyn, but I have yet to hear a single positive thing about it. Maybe they'll get it together in the future?
Need suggestions
My wife and I will be in Montreal in about three weeks and need some specific recommendations for:
*grilled fish
*Thai
*Caribbean
*vegetarian options
*a place that has great cocktails, both classic and new
We won't have access to a car, but are more than willing to travel wherever public transit goes. Many thanks in advance!
