BBQ on way from Charleston to Asheville

Hudson's in Lexington is pretty good. There's a newer location at Harbison Blvd, but I heard they had a fire - not sure if they are open currently. The original location on Sunset Blvd is less convenient, but worth the detour. Be prepared to wait a bit for a table, as they usually have a pretty good after-church crowd on Sundays. Little Pigs in Columbia isn't bad - I don't know if they are open on Sundays. Once you get past Columbia you won't find much in the way of good barbecue (unless you have time to detour up to Shelby NC and go to Bridges Barbecue Lodge, which is excellent).

1. Sgt White's - Still open? Still recommended?

2. Smokey Chef - I've seen some good reviews here and elsewhere. Any recent reports?

3. Other suggestions in the area? The only caveat is we will have our 5-yr-old with us, so it has to be somewhat kid-friendly.

Thanks!

Will be there in a couple weeks and need a recommendation in the FQ/CBD area for watching the Saints and Ryder Cup on Sunday afternoon - any suggestions? Thanks.

Is this place as good as advertised? What kind of neighborhood is it in?

Need Weekend Trip Recs

I'll be heading to NOLA for an LSU game weekend this fall with a group of 7-8 and I need some fairly specific recommendations for each meal, as follows:

Fri Lunch - Nothing too fancy or huge since we'll probably be eating a pretty big dinner at a nicer place that evening. Bayona or August maybe? Or what about Cochon Butcher, if we go with a little more casual/quicker option?

Fri Dinner - Emerils, Delmonico, August, Stella, Herbsaint have all been mentioned by the folks in our group. Other suggestions?

Sat Dinner - Need something in the FQ/CBD area, probably a little more on the casual side since we'll be getting back from Baton Rouge that evening. Bonus points for anything with a good bar and some TVs to satisfy the guys in our group who want to keep an eye on the late games or head to the bar after dinner.

Sunday - Other than Commanders Palace or Brennan's, any good brunch suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Savannah dinner recommendation

We ended up going to Elizabeth on 37th and Vic's on the River. Vic's was good, not great, although it worked out really well given our location and itinerary that day. Both my wife and I thought Elizabeth was fantastic. I had no problems with the service - in fact, they brought me a couple of small appetizer items on the house once the waiter realized I had a shellfish allergy and couldn't share my wife's shrimp appetizer (which she said was spectacular). Everything we had there was great. The pecan pie with almonds was one of the best versions of that dessert I've had. We would definitely go back anytime we're in Savannah.

Sunday Breakfast/Brunch in French Quarter/CBD?

What's everybody's favorite spot in the FQ/CBD for Sunday breakfast/brunch? (excluding some of the more expensive Brennan's-type options) Thanks.

Savannah dinner recommendation

My wife and I are going to Savannah for the weekend for our anniversary. We're planning on dinner at Elizabeth on 37th one of the two nights. Based on previous reviews, I'm debating between Noble Fare, Sapphire Grill and Vic's on the River for the other night. Any thoughts on the best choice (or other suggestions)?

Barbecue Along I-59 (between Birmingham & Hattiesburg)

Thanks Littleman - great list! I'll check out the links and see what looks good. I keep hearing that Saw's in Birmingham is worth a stop.

Barbecue Along I-59 (between Birmingham & Hattiesburg)

I'll be driving this stretch of I-59 a couple times next week and would appreciate any suggestions for barbecue lunch stops. I've been to Dreamland, Bob Sykes, Archibald's, and Full Moon (the latter two being my favorites of the 4) and would like to try something new (unless of course those are my best options). Any suggestions?

Cashiers NC Barbecue

Any good barbecue joints in the Cashiers/Highlands area? Thanks!

Knoxville Hotdogs?

Any recommendations for a good dog in the Knoxville area?

Barbecue Recommendations in Boone/Blowing Rock Area

I've been to The Woodlands in Blowing Rock and it's usually pretty good. Any other suggestions in that area? Somebody mentioned Bandana's in Boone, but I haven't tried it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Kentucky Barbecue/Hotdogs

Thanks for the suggestions - I'll check them out.

Kentucky Barbecue/Hotdogs

Will be in the Lexington and Bowling Green area on a Saturday-Sunday. Any recommendations for good barbecue or hotdogs? Thanks.

Muriel's

What's the latest on this place? I have heard mixed reviews. We will be going to a show at House of Blues in a couple weeks and somebody in our group suggested it. Thanks.

Carolina Bar-B-Q in Statesville

I read about this place on the NC Barbecue Society's Historic Barbecue Trail list, but I've heard mixed reviews, and some people have suggested that they are no longer cooking with wood. Anybody been recently who knows the story?

NC Barbecue Road Trip - need advice

Thanks for all the good suggestions. I'm going to check and see if I can make time for Allen & Sons. I was at Stamey's about a year and half ago and thought it was great, but I've heard mixed reviews recently. Carolinadawg, I have been to Keaton's and you're right, that barbecued chicken is unbelievable.

NC Barbecue Road Trip - need advice

I'm planning a short road trip around the Winston-Salem/Lexington/Greensboro region and would like to hit several of the best barbecue joints in that area. So far the itinerary includes:

1. Carolina Bar-B-Q (Statesville)
2. Lexington Barbecue No. 1 (Lexington)
3. Little Richard's Bar-B-Que (Winston-Salem)
4. Stamey's (Greensboro)
5. A&M Grill (Mebane)

Other possibilities include:

6. Richard's Bar-B-Q (Salisbury)
7. Clark's Barbecue (Kernersville)
8. Fuzzy's (Madison)

I can probably work in one or two of that second group, so any advice on how those compare would be appreciated. Also, are there any can't-miss stops in that area that I'm leaving out? (I won't be able to make it as far as Chapel Hill for Allen & Sons and will only be driving through Lexington briefly so I probably won't be able to stop at others there).

Thanks!
